Converting files by output size?

Mac High Sierra 10.13.4 Handbrake 1.1.0 I am loving the new Handbrake layout. Just wondered if in its new format allowance has been made for Handbrake to determine the file's output size when converting a file (mkv) to (mp4). Previously it was always a bit of hit & miss and trial by error. Some...

Re: HANDBRAKE crashes opening PREVIEW window

I think I have just sorted this - upgraded to HandBrake 1.1.0.

Seems OK (so far!)

HANDBRAKE crashes opening PREVIEW window

For no obvious reason when I access the PREVIEW window after opening a source file - Handbrake cashes. Can't explain it - it has been working fully for years and has just started doing this.

Mac High Sierra 10.13.4
Handbrake 1.0.7

Any ideas?

Cheers :-)

Re: Correct encoding for Subtitles

Thanks for that , BradleyS . Changing to UTF-8 seems have worked like magic . I did a test run by adding my own subs made up of the full lower & upper keyboard characters and everything came through as intended without any errors. I even checked out a few accented letters and they worked fine. G...

Correct encoding for Subtitles

Description of problem or question I am attempting to add English subs to some foreign opera downloads and the results seem to produce incorrect characters after adding SRT subs as an imported external SRT. Everything appears on the screen correctly but the text is often jumbled with strange charac...

Re: File conversion to Mp4 too large

Did a back-to-back mp4 transfer of the same 90min BluRay MKV rip using the same overall setting but with the RF factor adjusted between RF20 and FR22. RF20 = 5.88GB RF22 = 3.18GB There was little or no discernible difference in picture quality when watched on a 50" Smart TV. Thanks again, Ritsu...

Re: File conversion to Mp4 too large

Thanks for the advice, Ritsuka - I will give it a try and do a comparison with an earlier transfer to check the difference. Cheers ;-)

Re: File conversion to Mp4 too large

Thanks for that, mduell - but because I am on OS 10.6.8 I can't upgrade any further than Handbrake 0.10.5 :-(

File conversion to Mp4 too large

I seem to be getting odd file sizes when converting MKV files down to mp4. Of late the size for a reduced (1280 x 720) MKV file is coming in at around 6GB for a 90min movie. This seems excessive compared to copies I used to make 9 months back which would be around 2 - 3GB max. I usually reduce the p...

Re: PICTURE CROPPING

Thanks for the above replies. As far as I know I am already using the "latest" version of HANDBRAKE that I can use on OS 10.6.8 with my version of Java, etc. I will try to set up a custom preset as suggested by Rodeo - that should take out the manual re-adjustment each time I introduce a n...

PICTURE CROPPING

I am using HANDBRAKE 0.10.5 x86_64 with a Mac OS 10.6.8 I have recently started to transfer MKV copies of some of my Blue Ray discs using HANDBRAKE over to mp4s for use elsewhere. Most of the copies have been excellent, however lately I have started to encounter Picture Cropping which randomly affec...

Re: Handbrake for OS 10.6.8

Thanks for your input, Woodstock I have downloaded just the Mac GUI and (fingers crossed) it seems to be working perfectly on the OS 10.6.8. It visually looks the same as previously and works the same with the same excellent results - so I think between us all it is solved ;-) I don't want to tinker...

Re: Handbrake for OS 10.6.8

Thanks for your explanation of the 2 Mac versions, Rodeo. Do I need to download both (?) - I don't want to mess up my clean install by adding incorrect versions. From what I can remember - I think I selected GUID when I performed the install which makes me think that I should opt for 'Mac GUI'. Chee...

Re: Handbrake for OS 10.6.8

Thanks for the info, s55 (much appreciated). From the list I presume that the version to go for will be 0.10.5 (the last version to support OSX 10.6) ???? From the listing - do I just opt for one of the 2 Mac downloads? What is the different (CL1 or GUI) - I am confused. Sorry to be such a novice! C...

Handbrake for OS 10.6.8

Please detail your question or problem in as much detail as possible: Earlier this week I was forced to carry out a 'clean install' on my iMac and I am now attempting to put back the original apps, etc. I have always liked Handbrake and am trying to locate the version that will still work with OS 1...
