Re: Subtitle characters with diacritics are stripped

Aha! That was it! The Spanish subtitles were encoded with Western 8859-15. Using Subtitle Editor I did a Save As where I could change it to UTF-8. I also changed the Newline to Unix.* Then I restarted the encoding using the new .srt file. After 15 minutes I opened the new .mkv file in VLC and select...

Subtitle characters with diacritics are stripped

I was re-encoding a .mkv file that did not have subtitles. I found subtitles on opensubtitles.org for English, Italian and Spanish and I encoded them as optional subtitles into the file that HandBrake created (not hard coded). After the encoding was finished I discovered that any character that had ...

Re: What is the latest stable release?

Are they not in the documented location that rollin linked to? Ah, thanks. I missed that earlier. Here is all that is in ~/.config/ghb: [18:39:13] gtkgui: HandBrake 1.0.4 (2017040900) - Linux x86_64 - https://handbrake.fr [18:39:13] hb_init: starting libhb thread [18:39:13] hb_init: starting libhb ...

Re: What is the latest stable release?

OK, 1.04 just crashed at 92% of a 3GB movie. It took 1.5 hours to get that far, and now I have to start all over from the beginning. This is really [Censored] me off.
I would post the logs but I can't find them.

Thanks, I'm encoding a movie with it (1.04) as I write this.

Re: What is the latest stable release?

Thanks for all the quick comments! Regarding the libraries, I have no idea what libraries I was using with the PPA version. In a debian system like Ubuntu, once you install the PPA and reload your sources the PPA version appears as well as the official Ubuntu version. I usually use Synaptic (a GUI f...

What is the latest stable release?

Xubuntu 14.04 x86_64, all updates applied. I have given up on the PPA because I can't get HB to stop crashing in the middle of an encode. I had version 20180101000000-ba30fd8-master-zhb-1ppa1~trusty1, but I had to uninstall it and install the latest from the Ubuntu Trusty repositories instead (versi...

Re: Cuttting off last few minutes of DVD

@Woodstock: Thank you for your response. I failed to state in my original post that the problem occurs nine times out of ten with brand new disks, so it's not a problem of defective media. And I have one brand new DVD drive and three Blu-Ray drives, and it happens the same with all of them. Yet othe...

Cuttting off last few minutes of DVD

Handbrake 20170121225140-09ce4cb-master (x86_64) from PPA on Xubuntu 14.04 up to date. Handbrake usually stops encoding before it gets to the end of the movie, sometimes only a minute or two, sometimes 15-20 minutes. Sometimes it says 'Encode failed,' other times it says "Encode finished,' even...
