Re: HEVC quality vs speed slider, much trial and error!

I still don't know exactly what tune settings you're talking about, please can an encoder that does HEVC a lot just post what you use in the extra options section for your best results, I just want to try and after that I'll make my own decision. Leaving it empty works of course but if I can make it...

Re: HEVC quality vs speed slider, much trial and error!

From your experience guys, what is the best extra options to use, apparently someone thought it funny that I used ref=5:bframes=5 for HEVC the way I described (it was there on the superHQ1080p preset so I just left it even though I switched to HEVC), but the result is pretty good, although a bit les...

Re: HEVC quality vs speed slider, much trial and error!

I can't just use the preset because they are h264 and when you switch to hevc everything changes, and who knows if the extra options work for hevc. I'm trying right now to encode a 3.5GB 720p h264 copy of the movie Communion, and I'm using no filters, hevc, constant framerate, medium 19, and auto pr...

Re: HEVC quality vs speed slider, much trial and error!

Ok thanks for all the info guys, can I just get it in one post now, with the new version, I'm going to use RF21 HEVC Slow, and everything off in the filters section correct? I will decide on the FPS and audio/sub so no worries there., The only help I need now is the optimize video section, so now in...

Re: HEVC quality vs speed slider, much trial and error!

Lots of info here. I did upgrade to the latest, but am still not sure if adding any parameters is a good thing under video, I leave the frames at same as source (for anything 30fps or under) and not trying CFR for the first time since VFR may be causing me the skipping, but in the optimize section I...

Re: HEVC quality vs speed slider, much trial and error!

I have no idea what you're talking about or to whom, musicvid, if you read the OP you'll see that it's nothing about what you wrote. Anyhow, whatzit, thank you for the info, it's very helpful indeed, I will try those settings for sure, and upgrade to 1.0 or the latest nightly build. I only encode in...

Re: HEVC quality vs speed slider, much trial and error!

Umm ok, so far I haven't added anything in the "other" command line parameters blank space at the bottom, but perhaps I should? Is there a guide maybe? And again, what is MAIN and MAIN10 in tune/preset under the speed slider but above the blank white box that you type the parameters in (Ag...

Re: HEVC quality vs speed slider, much trial and error!

Yeah, I definitely learned that 2pass is for amateurs, I've been playing for a long time with settings now since I posted, so here are my findings. Indeed, the speed slider is not consistent, I encoded the same source with everything the same (strict, audio pass through, video same as source fps), 6...

Re: HEVC quality vs speed slider, much trial and error!

Ok, nobody read my essay above, I know it's too much, so hear it is in a much clearer and shorter way: When encoding a group release show or movie x264, which is the more relevant to quality and size, the speed slider on the bottom left or the quality slider on the top left? I tried to encode the sa...

Re: Question: What would be the preferred x265 preset when recoding a x264 file?

I know it's physically impossible to improve on quality while encoding, but to my eyes, that is exactly what HEVC does. I have downloaded numerous sources, 1080p in the 5-10GB range, so 720p in the 1GB range, when I really want quality for something that I've been waiting for a long time to watch. B...

HEVC quality vs speed slider, much trial and error!

So, like most, I'm obsessed with HEVC, specifically x265 for now since that is what HB does, and after using PAVtube for a while and then finding this and instantly felt belittled and like an amateur, I dove right into HB. Naturally, I used the avg bitrate 2pass at first, thinking average must mean ...

keep subs srt when embedding, possible?

I am running the latest HB version 64bit on a 8-core AMD machine with dual NVidia cards, but that doesn't matter. I do have a question regarding quality and speed for x265 codec (h265 HEVC) but I'll ask that in the support section, this is about subtitles and a suggestion if there is no solution yet...
