Handbrake elapsed time and time remaining not accurate
Handbrake used to nail elapsed time and estimated time to completion. Now it is always really far off during the entire encode. See https://imgur.com/a/edOIjKS Please forgive the bottom screenshot - imgur clipped it, but you will still get the idea. Even looking at the first screenshot alone, if you...

Thank you for that link. I pasted one of my paragraphs above into the conversation just to chip in my support and rationale behind why it should change.

Re: Getting two 5.1 audio tracks every time
Well, from now on I'm just going to encode a single audio track, AND it's going to be passthru (so no change of format and no need to worry about a badly titled audio track), so like I said, it's moot in my particular situation. But more generally, it's extremely rare that the original audio track i...

Re: Getting two 5.1 audio tracks every time
Mduell, thank you! I didn't believe I was insane. (Then again, insane people don't think they're insane either...) I definitely think the user should have the option to GENERALLY specify if they want Handbrake to always name tracks according to metadata, or always name tracks according to the target...

Re: Getting two 5.1 audio tracks every time
Ok. It's all a big mystery to me since I've used the "B" hotkey in VLC for years to switch audio tracks, and never before have I gotten a toggle between "Surround 5.1" and "Surround 5.1." Now I get it constantly. If it was me who changed rather than the Blu-Ray sources,...

Re: Getting two 5.1 audio tracks every time
Crap. All the hard drive space I've wasted trying to accommodate the scenario in which I play a movie without a surround sound system... But tell me this: why has this never been an issue before? Are Blu-Ray and 4K disc manufacturers suddenly getting more creative with their metadata than they did b...

Re: Getting two 5.1 audio tracks every time
Ok.... isn't that a problem with Handbrake? When the user elects to have Handbrake convert a surround track to a stereo one, shouldn't Handbrake give the track a name that corresponds to what it is, rather than naming it what it was?

Getting two 5.1 audio tracks every time
When I encode movies, I've always put two audio tracks in them: first track Dolby 5.1 or 7.1 via "Auto Passthru," and second track Mixdown to Stereo. However, recently, all of my resulting encodes just have two Surround 5.1 tracks, even when the second one has "Mixdown: Stereo" s...

Re: Significant color change when encoding 4K material
Unfortunately nlmeans being on or off doesn't help the color. This is hugely disappointing. I've never been one to save original rips of discs because of how much space it takes up, but unless someone tells me there is a reasonable alternative out there that preserves colors of movies, I'm going to ...

Re: Significant color change when encoding 4K material
Also, if Handbrake can't handle this video, is there any alternative out there that does? Or is my only option to simply keep the 55GB original? (Would prefer not to do that... I don't feel like hard drives are so cheap yet that it's worth devoting 50-80GB to preserve any single 4K movie in its orig...

Significant color change when encoding 4K material
When I encode a 4K movie using h.265 and NLMeans (Handbrake 1.3.1, Windows 10), it absolutely destroys the color of the movie. The color is not even close. Is this me, or is it Handbrake? Top pic is before encoding, bottom is after encoding. BOTH are screenshots taken from VLC, so it doesn't ...

Re: fastest cpu/motherboards for Handbrake as of December 2019?
I actually used to use hqdn3d, and in fact I was at the point where I could type in filter numbers like 3:3:4:5 based on looking at the film and get it just right every time. When NLMeans came out, I didn't use it for a long time (seemed too complicated to learn - I didn't want to just use presets),...

Re: fastest cpu/motherboards for Handbrake as of December 2019?
No idea what NUMA based means, even after Googling it, haha... I guess I'll just have to take your word for it.
If one just wanted the most bang (regardless of the bang-to-buck ratio), what would that be?

Re: fastest cpu/motherboards for Handbrake as of December 2019?
Will it save time to run multiple instances of Handbrake, vs. just putting everything into one single Handbrake queue? Again, assuming all encoding h265. In general I always thought that single-tasking was always faster than multitasking simply because the O/S doesn't have to spend any resources goi...

Re: fastest cpu/motherboards for Handbrake as of December 2019?
Assuming I'm only encoding in h265, would an AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX or Intel Core i9-7900X be of notable benefit over, say, various processors that are in the $400-$500 range? NLMeans is a single-thread bottleneck... hmm, does that mean a 1-core processor will be as fast as a 64-core processo...

Re: fastest cpu/motherboards for Handbrake as of December 2019?
Edit: I currently have an Intel i5-6500 @3.2 with an ASUS Z170M-PLUS motherboard. It usually takes between 21 and 40 hours to encode a single 4K movie using h265, depending on whether I use nlmeans to eliminate annoying film grain or not.

fastest cpu/motherboards for Handbrake as of December 2019?
I was wondering what the 3 fastest cpu/motherboard combos currently are out there for Handbrake encoding? I've been reading lots of threads, and of course many of them are a year or more old. I also read somewhere (not sure if it's true) that Handbrake can only use 6 cores, which makes me wonder if ...

system tray bug
I am running Handbrake 1.2.2 (Windows 10), and my options are set to minimize to system tray. When minimized (whether I'm encoding anything or not), if I double-click on the Handbrake icon, it not only brings Handbrake up, but also brings up a second program - whatever icon is to the left of Handbra...

Erm… that's not a nightly build. Nightly builds versions numbers should look like: HandBrake Nightly 20181022203549-3ce05cb-master Oh. Re: Handbrake crashing
Ok, just started encoding using Nightly build 1.1.0 (2018040700) 64-bit. A good sign: Encoding pass 2 of 2, 16 minutes elapsed, 2 and a half hours remaining. I don't think it got that far before. I won't be at home to report the result immediately but will be able to tonight. Update: 2 hours 12 minu...

Handbrake crashing
I have tried to encode the same file using the three most recent versions of Handbrake - all of them failed. Windows ends up shutting Handbrake down. This has never happened before, ever, in my many-year history of using Handbrake GUI. HandBrake 1.1.2 (2018090500) - 64bit OS: Microsoft Windows NT 10...
