Re: [Rejected] Video Passthru?

By the way, I just tried MP4Box to do this. (As my computer is a Windows PC, I cannot use Subler, which is only for Mac.) I downloaded and installed the newest GPAC (which includes MP4Box), and also two GUIs for MP4Box, "My MP4Box GUI", and YAMB. In trying the situation I described, neithe...

Re: [Rejected] Video Passthru?

This is a common request. HandBrakes engine is designed for video encode, not passthru. As such, this won't happen. Basically, it's not practical. HandBrakes engine wasn't designed with this in mind so adding it in as an afterthought is too much work. There simply isn't sufficient developer interes...

Re: Video Passthru?

Why is there now [rejected] before the title of this thread? Is it not technically possible to add that option for video, as it is for audio? I can imagine a lot of people with situations similar to the one I described, and you wrote that it is a common request. Of course the main purpose of HB is e...

[Rejected] Video Passthru?

I really like the audio passthru option, and wish there was such an option for video as well. This could be useful when one is only changing the video container, and not anything else. For instance, one downloads a low resolution low bitrate video from the internet, with the .flv extension, encoded ...

[Invalid]Nightly Build 5961 will not encode soft subtitles

Nightly Build 5961 (Windows GUI 64 bit version, in Windows 8.1 64)) will not encode soft subtitles.

No matter how one sets it, the subtitles come out hard.

I had to regress to the stable version to encode with soft subtitles again.

Re: iOS 7 on iPhone/iPad - Only 1 subtitle per language

I just realized that my Ipad Mini (old version) running IOS 7.04 will not show soft subtitles (in a video encoded with Handbrake)--no option to turn them on. I thought I could do so before with IOS6 but I don't recall for sure. Is this a new bug in IOS7, that there is no option to use soft subtitles...

Re: Best Settings for Encoding for Upload to YouTube (HD)

I did not ask you to test anything out for me. You said you never upload video to YT as .m4v, and I asked why? That's all. I wouldn't think that .mp4 or .m4v would make any difference to YT, but don't know. I've never tried uploading .m4v to Youtube. That is all I said, nothing else. Also, the reaso...

Re: Best Settings for Encoding for Upload to YouTube (HD)

According to the last two posts there are more features in an .m4v file. I was responding to a previous post by Smithcraft in which it sounded like more "things" were put in an .mp4 file. So is it the other way around? ---------------- Also, the reason .mp4 vs. .m4v came up in this discuss...

What "things" does "Apple put into an mp4"?

(Since we are discussing encoding with HandBrake, I assume that HB puts in those same things?)

Re: Best Settings for Encoding for Upload to YouTube (HD)

I've never tried uploading .m4v to Youtube. Isn't an .m4v file identical to an .mp4 video file, only a different extension? Cannot one rename the file extension, and it will not make any difference? Please correct me if that is incorrect? Are you saying though, better to use the extension .mp4 when...

Re: Best Settings for Encoding for Upload to YouTube (HD)

I didn't say that I thought many would watch at 1080p. If one uploads at that resolution though, people could watch at any resolution, no, from the lowest up to the highest (1080p). I have never uploaded to YT at 1080p before, was just curious to try. Yes, I know that AAC is the standard audio for A...

Re: Best Settings for Encoding for Upload to YouTube (HD)

Hi Musicvid, Thanks again for your reply. Yes, I know most people cannot watch 1080p on their computers, and most do not have connections fast enough. (However, most have TVs that can show 1080p, and if it has an internet connection with YT, fast enough, some may watch it that way. However, since I ...

Re: Best Settings for Encoding for Upload to YouTube (HD)

Thanks. You mean you never upload 1080p to YT? I guess I thought of doing so with what I have heard to upload as high quality as possible, and let YT do the compressing and resizing, as it will anyhow. Also, what about audio? The audio out of my camcorder is 256kbps 48khz AC3. The default on HB is t...

Best Settings for Encoding for Upload to YouTube (HD)

Footage shot at highest AVCHD level with my Canon Vixia HF M500 camcorder. I have read that it is best to upload the highest quality to YT, as they will re-encode (recompress) it in any case, so best not to have multiple lossy recompressions. Only based on that, one should upload the video directly ...

Re: To anamorph or not to anamorph? That is the question.

Regarding last post, by Ted3-

Does the Ipad 2 support PAR?

Are all DVDs anamorphic?

And if the prevalent opinion is that anamorphic produces better encodes for the Ipad 2, which type would be better to use for that device--strict or loose?

Thank you.

Since you missed it: the day iOS 6 was released (Sept 19th), I posted in your earlier thread that this issue has been corrected. Either that or you don't believe me. lol. I saw that post of yours yesterday, but didn't notice the date, that it was recent. As the thread itself is months old, I though...

To anamorph or not to anamorph? That is the question.

For encoding to Ipad 2, have people got better results with Anamorphic turned on or off. If on- -here is a follow up question? strict or loose? Re: Has the video chapter bug been fixed in IOS 6

I think all the videos I encoded with chapters are copyrighted material (DVDs I bought), that I can legally encode in a format to use on my Ipad (fair use). However, it would not be legal for me to upload such videos, not parts of them. Does anyone else here have a video you could upload for a test?...

Has the video chapter bug been fixed in IOS 6

I have two devices running IOS 5.11--- an Ipad 2 (wi-fi only), and an Ipod Touch 4th generation. There has been a bug in IOS 5 regarding displaying chapters in video. Re: No Chapter Names on Ipad!

Thanks for the info, Hanumang. I also see something about the bug at: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3789809?start=0&tstart=0 Pretty bad bug, for an OS that originated from a media playe (Ipod), where media playback is still one of the most important features--that an OS update can kill ch...

Re: No Chapter Names on Ipad!

Well, I am currently encoding the movie again with anamorphic-none, and I will see if thumbnails are shown for the movie now, in Itunes and on the Ipad. I would be very surprised though, if that solves the chapter names issue, which is a much more serious problem to me. By the way, I have seen other...

Re: No Chapter Names on Ipad!

An idea occurred to me, although it is probably far off. In the past I have encoded videos with HB for an old Ipod classic. In that case, one could see a frame from the movie as an icon for it in Itunes, unlike the black box seen today. Chapter names could be seen on the Ipod as well. With that enco...

No Chapter Names on Ipad!

Hello, Thanks for the great app. Encoded a DVD with Handbrake 9.8. on Windows Vista. Handbrake detected the chapters correctly, and I added the chapter titles. It is a video for which the chapters are important to me. I just got an Ipad 2, with the newest IOS, I think 5.1.1. So I used the Ipad prese...
