Re: Output Dimensions Suddenly Can't Be Changed
FWIW, I downloaded the latest nightly on a Mac and the problem is very similar as I described above on Windows. On Mac, reducing the top and bottom crop while set to Anamorphic: Auto still does weird things, but increasing it seems to behave, at least most of the time. It's bizarre. You can very eas...

Re: Output Dimensions Suddenly Can't Be Changed
Lots of pictures, no confirming encode log to show what being used when "START" was clicked.... I did a quick encode and added it above (again, I'm on Windows nightlies, but problem seems to be the same). Seems pretty easy to reproduce. Not really a problem for me (I don't use Anamorphic:...

Re: Output Dimensions Suddenly Can't Be Changed
I'm on Windows (nightly 20170828), but I will say I see similar problems with changing the top or bottom crop while Anamorphic is set to Auto, where the output display size is not at all what you'd expect. Changing the Anamorphic to Loose or None will fix out the output display size, as will choosin...

Re: encoding input 4K video to chunks of size <4GB
Que 1) When I open that file in handbrake Picture tab shows width and height as 1920 and 1080 respectively. Can't handbrake encode video to mp4 of 4K resolution ? You probably have a 1080p preset selected. You'll want to choose a 4K preset (or create your own, but it's useful to start from one of th...

Re: First pass file reuse
The reason for the question in the first place was to deal with some artifacts (green lines) introduced by the encoding process. Does mpv duplicate the same artifacts to give accurate numbers for the original poster? Nope, just an open source player that happens to do a few things I find useful in ...

Re: First pass file reuse
Just a side suggestion if you want to quickly verify your crop settings and not waste time encoding (even doing a small test encode)... Using MPV, downloadable here: https://mpv.io/installation/ mpv --no-audio --vf "lavfi=[drawbox=x:y:w:h:invert:t]" "SOURCE FILENAME.EXT" x:y = of...

Re: x265 2.4/2.5 10-bit/12-bit
The 2.5 10-bit and 12-bit DLLs were removed, I guess due to a build problem (in that, they didn't work). However, the nightly was updated to x265 2.5. 1) Is the build problem specific to the 10/12-bit DLLs? Is it possible we'll see 2.5 DLLs reposted, or will the problem not be corrected until 2.6? 2...

x265 2.4/2.5 10-bit/12-bit
The latest x265 10-bit and 12-bit DLLs supplied for use with nightly builds are still on version 2.3 (https://forum.handbrake.fr/viewtopic.php?p=169744#p169744), but the default x265 encoder included in the nightlies has been bumped to version 2.4 (per this commit on June 6th). Any chance we can get...

Re: Encode size differs based on CPU used
Just out of curiosity, what would you do given high core counts? Set threads=8 and run multiple instances of Handbrake if needed (I'm actually not familiar with any drawbacks that may have)? Or don't sweat it and just let it use all the cores? Also, while horribly inefficient and probably not recomm...

Re: Encode size differs based on CPU used
So, theoretically speaking, what would result in better quality? I'm assuming more segments, as decisions are made per segment/thread? And would there be any adverse effect to increasing threads greater than the number of hyperthreads available on the CPU? I'm assuming there's some point where more ...

Encode size differs based on CPU used
Handbrake version: HandBrake Nightly 20170326111905-9fe38b5-master (2017032701) - 64bit (I know this is a little out of date, but nightly downloads are currently down, and I need nightly builds for FDK on Windows, as well as 10-bit h265) I normally encode on my desktop, currently running Windows 10...

Re: Confused over subtitles, they don't encode
Whistlerz, there are only two sub tracks, 'foreign audio scan' and 'English (PGS)', I've tried both without success. I'll try just the English PGS and see what happens! In your current MakeMKV output, that may be true. I'm suggesting that you missed selecting the appropriate subtitle track when you...

Re: Confused over subtitles, they don't encode
Some movies, instead of using "forced" subs, will instead have the automatic subs in a separate subtitle track that is then flagged as the "default" subtitle track when playing the disc. I think Spectre is an example of one of those movies, and the subtitles you want are the 2nd ...

Re: Can presets be shared between platforms?
The .plist format for presets on Mac is going away in favor of the common .json format for the upcoming 1.0 release, and this change is already present in the nightly builds. So I'd update to a nightly build if you really want to share presets between platforms and don't want to hold off for 1.0. Se...

Re: Several Questions about my first x265 encode with Handbrake
Given you haven't done any encodes yet: A) Leave the resolution alone, unless you specifically want your output to be lower resolution. If there are black bars (which it sounds like there are, since that resolution isn't actually 4:3), you can either let HandBrake try to automatically crop them, whi...

Re: Preserving Dr Who Decomb BOB when combining handbrake rips and other files!
So you're trying to merge multiple episodes (from multiple discs even) into a single file? I'd try either: Using some other app that will allow you to losslessly combine the appropriate DVD VOBs together into an MKV. Use MKVMerge on each disc first to losslessly dump the appropriate title from that ...

Re: LibAV AAC encoder vs old FDK AAC encoder quality
Options: Accept the quality loss of LibAV. Encode on a Mac instead, if you have one. Find another tool with FDK support on Windows (I don't know of one, just theoretically an option) to handle the audio (either just encoding the audio and leaving video as is before passing the resulting file into Ha...
