Re: Presetting subs defaults in Mac app
Rather than start a new thread as it is tangential to this, but how can I delete any/all of "my presets"? I have several that are no longer relevant and simply clog up the menu.

Re: Aspect Ratio 'greyed' out
Does this link work? https://pastebin.com/ZsU7gA7G I think the encryption thing is probably a permissions problem since Handbrake will scan the TS folder and then produce a rip when asked. The problem seems to be that I can't tell it to display in 3:2 or 12/14:9 form to reduce the 'stretch'. Copying...

Aspect Ratio 'greyed' out
Description of problem or question: Been given a DVD created from an old 8mm home movie with a request to convert this for use on the Web. Handbrake says the DVD is encrypted but AFAIK it isn't and I can't see any reason it would be since it was a home movie. DVD originates from a (probably old) Wi...

Re: Incorrect Aspect Ratio
Thanks for the help. As suggested I input the display width as 1020 with custom anamorphic which appears to have worked OK. At least there's no obvious anomalies.

Re: Incorrect Aspect Ratio
OK thanks. I'll give that a try. This would be in: Picture -> Display Size. Would I would also need to uncheck 'keep aspect ratio' since it would be custom anamorphic?

Incorrect Aspect Ratio
Please detail your question or problem in as much detail as possible: Ripping from a DVD recorder produces 'wrong' aspect ratio. IE not 16:9 Need to get the correct settings. Tell us about your environment. What version of HandBrake? What version of OSX are you running. etc. HB 1.07 Mac OSX 10.12.6...

Re: Changing settings for better quality
Lower RF values are higher quality. Slower presets generally improve compression efficiency (quality for size). Constant quality settings are not constant quality across different presets. I am assuming the the High Profile preset is the place to start for optimum quality..... Been playing with thi...

Changing settings for better quality
I'm new to HandBrake and am using the current release version on a Mac streaming to an Apple TV 2. Generally speaking I use the High Profile setting with the H264 codec which works OK, but can someone tell me how I can tweak this for better quality? For example how does the Constant Quality RF slide...

Re: Wrong Aspect Ratio
I should add that playing the DVD on the Mac using DVD player it plays in something like 4:3 format, so I'm thinking that for some reason it's the original DVD recording that's causing the problem. It's a Panasonic so it should be standards compliant

Re: Wrong Aspect Ratio
Thanks John, but what I can't understand is that if the DVD is signalling its display aspect of 1.33:1 (not 16:9 which is what I assumed it was recorded in) why does it automatically adjust the encoding on one DVD but not the other? It's not a huge problem since as you say it can be adjusted manually

Re: Wrong Aspect Ratio
Thanks for the reply John. OK the new Activity window is here: http://pastebin.com/y88CJbgM I created custom settings with a width of 1021 whilst maintaining the same height, which I think is what the original encoding set automatically. It seems to have worked but being new to HB I can't fathom out...

Wrong Aspect Ratio
Recorded a programme on an HD recorder and copied it to DVD. Program plays from DVD in video player with correct 16:9 format. Play the DVD on the Mac and it plays in something like 1:1.2 aspect ratio. Picture width is 704 x 576 Encoding in HB with standard presets "Universal" "normal&...
