Re: Handbrake using < 55% of my dual CPU System for h.254

You have a tendency to be matter-of-fact and antagonistic. I’m asking you to please keep the tone constructive, and if you have a genuine concern please voice it constructively and work with us to make HandBrake better. You certainly don’t come off like that’s your goal. I'm actually quite the puss...

Re: Handbrake using < 55% of my dual CPU System for h.254

It's safe to leave decomb and the combing detection enabled; otherwise, it wouldn't be the default. So, one of my many test files is the IMAX Cliffhanger demo, which, at 140mb, is a 40 second, 1080p, 100% comb-free, high-motion, high-detail, progressive sample: Video ID : 1 Format : AVC Format/Info...

Re: Run H.265 on Intel QSV from CLI

I never got the HEVC encoder to accept an attached mfxExtCodingOption2 (which is used to set/unset MBBRC). Yet the current code detects the same structure as working fine for the H.264 encoder. There aren't many specific divergences between 264 & 265 in the function of QSV structure fields, but...

Interesting. Just as a reference, which software is the above output from, and on which GPU/hardware? Looks like QSVEncC's --check-features to me. Just tested it myself on an old i3-6100 HTPC, and ICQ comes up as a HEVC feature. ICQ is supported from the beginning of Intels H265 start with Skylake ...

Re: Run H.265 on Intel QSV from CLI

Lol Handbrake still doesn't support the superior ICQ for H265 after years, only CQP. And mbbrc doesn't work either. I don't know of a single open source project that synchronises with the MASTER on a timely basis. Many are YEARS behind, with it not being uncommon to see 2013-vintage sources. Even t...

I hope you understand what I'm trying to say. Yep, you want your encodes to adhere to DivX standards. Unfortunately for you, it's now years after everyone else said "[Censored] that DivX [Censored]!" So, is there any reason why you don't just use DivX's own HandBrake rip-off that they cal...

Re: How to batch resize?

It would be interesting to see the encode log for one of the files that it allowed you to upscale the height. The encode log doesn't timeline execution logic. There was a highly-popular "feature" in the Release where you could impose the dimensions defined within your custom preset rather...

Re: How to batch resize?

Am I being stupid? Nope. The HandBrake GUI deliberately prevents you from doing anything that the HandBrake team doesn't think you should do, which includes arbitrary restrictions on output dimensions. For 137 identically-formatted files (I presume), I suggest you give the GUI the flick, and examin...

BUT HOW do I get it written with HB, maby as some Extra Option or ? Add NASM To Toolchains?

BTW, I've just built HB with the very latest x265 v2.6+8 (fc0570b) which requires NASM, and it works fine.

Although it did take significantly longer than YASM, it produced slightly bigger files, and spewed out an x265 version of 0.0.

Add NASM To Toolchains?

In order to support AVX-512 SIMD, both x264 & x265 are swapping from YASM to NASM. Great! Only problem is that x265 v2.7 will require a very recent minimum (v2.13), and Ubuntu 16.04 only has a v2.11 package, and 17.04 a v2.12 package. Sure, any user could just download the v2.13.xx tarball and m...

I have a movie which plays fine in VLC, MPV, ... however when I try to encode that with handbrake and x265 the result has multiple artifacts and is not really what i would expect. (The same happen with x264 as well). VLC, and most downloadable builds of MPV, are FFmpeg, which decodes sources like t...

I also need to make them non-HDR as my UHD TV isn't HDR and my players (PC, Android and the TV itself) show the videos as very washed out with barely any colour. If you're familiar with the picture degradation that occurs when mismatching 8-bit video levels (PC 0-255 or TV 16-235), then you'll have...

What do you recommend as a paid encoding application? I am waiting for Apple to update Compressor to support h265 but, in the meantime, I haven't come across anything that seem remotely legit. So I assume only MPV is handling the file correctly then... MPV applies the same tone-mapped exposure bias that I was talking about: https://github.com/mpv-player/mpv/issues/2572 Not being familiar with mpv or its source code, I'm not sure if that's dynamically calculated or LUT derived. I'm talking about the stored colour gamut of a 2020 HDR source having the possibility of being anywhere from 35% (common) to 75% (rare/non-existent) of the total 1931 colour space, due to different mastering strategems. The OP's desaturation prob...
