Chapter titles from DVDs

I'm running 1.0.7 with libdvdcss installed via homebrew. I see that the scan of the disk sees chapters and they appear to have the correct times on them, but they have no titles, just "Chapter 1", "Chapter 2", etc. These do have chapter titles on the disk when I play it. Is this ...

What does x246 Tune do?

The selections seem obvious, but what exactly does changing this setting do? Pre-flight the encoder table?

Ahh, sets the blocking. Interesting.

Re: "Juddering" in encode

"Try with detelecine off" I did. No effect that I could see. I've been examining the effect trying to figure it out. It *appears* to be something like the frame rate speeding up and slowing down. Freezing the problem, when I can get close, seems to show that these frames have motion blurri...

"Juddering" in encode

I'm moving my home office and as I'm cleaning out the closet I come across what has to be the only DVD in my collection I haven't burned, From the Earth to the Moon, which is weird because I would have thought this was the *first* one I'd do. Anyway, I burned it and encoded using the High Profile se...

Re: Subler (like Muxo, maybe better?)

Someone just pointed me in the direction of Subler as a way to convert MKVs. I'm a little baffled, perhaps someone can help? I dragged an MKV (Apollo 13) onto Subler and a dialog opened asking me what I wanted to import. It showed a video and AC3 track, as expected, with proper looking times. When I...

Re: Video quality settings for @TV Take 2...

I solved all my stuttering problems by turning off CACAB. I have been using CABAC as an experiment for my ATV encodes. The saving that CABAC gets you are relatively small, and are overwhelmed by AC-3. Basically if you're looking to save file size, losing 5.1 is an easier and "more compatible&q...

Re: Video quality settings for @TV Take 2...

Ararely do I read of people going over 70% CQ I encoded a particularly contrasty scene using a variety of CQ settings. I was unable to see any difference with settings above 66%. 62% had noticeable artifacts, and 64 and 66 looked pretty much identical. I use 65% for all encodes now that 9.2 support...

Re: 5.1 Audio settings for Apple TV (take 2) - Confused

I stream this through my Apple TV and through my 5.1 receiver. The signal indicates stereo on my amp but I get discreet channels in my rear speakers. Normally when playing a standard DVD, the Amp indicates 5.1 speakers receiving the signal. Given this description it seems highly likely you are not ...

Try using dvdplayer.app to try the different subtitle selections and note which is which. Ahhh, interesting! ...

Re: How do you rip for 2 CDs?

Do you set target size on 1400 MB and then split it? (With what?) Or do you choose the chapters and rip two times 700MB ? Well that depends on what you mean by "2 CD's". Do you want a CD that you can put in a machine and play the movie off of? Or do you want to simply carry the movie on 2...

Re: Suggestions for subtitles?

Sorry I guess I wasn't terribly clear in my explaination: yes I tried those settings together and got no subtitles at all. My guess, and that's all it is, is that a flag that HB expects when using Forced is not turned on on this DVD.

Suggestions for subtitles?

I'm trying to convert A Bridge Too Far, which is a fairly old DVD. Portions of the movie are in Dutch or German, and I'd like to have subtitles for those portions. Am I correct in thinking that "forced only" is normally the way to go here? When I try this I don't get any subtitles at all. ...

Re: ATV DD HDMI or Optical

My atv is hooked up to my lcd via the hdmi connector, from there it passes audio through the tv via optical to my receiver. Both ac3 only as well as the aac + ac3 hybrid encodes play the ac3 5.1 on my receiver. Out of curiosity, which LCD do you have? There are a few that don't do pass-through corr...

Nah, it's a limitation of the MP4 container format itself. It's just not specified to hold an AC3 track. It's got nothing to do with Apple or Perian. Bummer. My mention of Perian was unrelated -- it's needed to play the MKVs. If you've converted your DVDs to MP4s using Handbrake then they're probab...
