Re: Update started saving videos to mp4

The default has changed over the years for what to use as the extension for MP4 files. MP4 is the same as M4V, but Apple USED TO allow more features for files ending in M4V. That has been changing over the years, though. I feel like I'm missing something here. Handbrake changed the default to MP4 b...

Update started saving videos to mp4

They used to save to m4v. It looks like the update changed the default to MP4. I'm not sure if this was intentional or not. I have version 1.6.1. I don't know what the previous version was, but I think it hadn't been updated in months, maybe close to a year.

How to rip all pre-selected titles to their own files in one shot?

I bought an old DVD, I backed it up to an iso file, now I'm using HandBrake to rip the "episodes" (It's a short films collection), and upon opening the iso file, HandBrake automatically pre-selects 14 titles, I'm OK with the audio/visual selections being the same for them, but it appears i...

Re: Folder (Batch Scan) doesn't actually work

There was no DVD in the drive... and I didn't select any DVD at all anyway. If a DVD was scanned, where in the log is the file path? C drive is not a DVD drive, it's a hard drive with Windows on it... D and further letters are optical drives, which are not in the log file. Do you think maybe HandBra...

Re: 480x30 bigger than 1080x30 at same screen height?!

@BradleyS: If the difference is quality, why is 480 more file size data than 1080? @mduell: This is a support request? Why do you need an activity log for two files encoded at 480 and 1080? I'm having a hard time believing you're either not able to explain what I've already shown you without an acti...

Re: Folder (Batch Scan) doesn't actually work

I added all, as always after I click Start Encode, it encodes the first one then fails on the rest; if I click to restart the rest on the list (showing with yellow yield signs), they all just fail again. This happens *every single time* I try to batch encode, regardless of where the source/destinati...

Folder (Batch Scan) doesn't actually work

I'm using version 1.01 Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, and selecting this option only encodes the first file in the folder.

480x30 bigger than 1080x30 at same screen height?!

I'm ripping a music video from a DVD (which is 480p), and Handbrake's default selection is 1080x30, so I figured I'd rip it at that then rip it at 480x30 and compare the image quality and size etc. While both look fine, the 480 video is larger in MB and has a higher datarate while the 1080 version s...

Re: Easiest way to encode multiple versions of the same movies?

Is there any way to see the settings of each task in the queue? So far the only difference I can see is the title.

Easiest way to encode multiple versions of the same movies?

I have a bunch of iso files ripped from my DVD movies that I want to encode into different formats (lower quality/size for smaller devices and higher quality for larger devices), but I'm not seeing that queuing them up means each one will be encoded with the Preset selected at the time each was adde...

Re: No way to select multiple files to convert?

It would be nice to just select multiple files when I need them at the time. Also I'd like to be able to have title naming presets like "don't capitalize 'of' and 'the'" etc. Winamp had a feature like this, where I could specify naming conventions with pre-set checkboxes or special charact...

No way to select multiple files to convert?

I see the option to add a single file or a folder, but it won't let me open a folder and select multiple files (by holding CTRL or SHIFT while I click). If I select to open by folder, it scans them all. Also I need to be able to have all selected files be stereo. Version 0.10.1.6962 - 64-bit; Window...

Re: Destination not smart

This is all I needed really: Set your destination folder and filename syntax in Preferences. However, I don't necessarily need a default destination folder, as I use multiple destinations; I simply want it to select the last used, but I'll find out if that's possible in settings rather than wait for...

Re: Destination not smart

I half expected to get the "You're an idiot" response instead of just "Here's how to do it" because Preferences can be daunting for a new user (especially when programs can have their own terminology) but regardless most programs already have this "smartness" built in t...

Destination not smart

Handbrake is very smart; it can auto detect a movie if it's in a CD drive, it can scan it and discover its name, it can figure out its resolution and all that, but... it doesn't remember my last saved folder and doesn't auto-generate the file name even though it found the movie name and automaticall...

Re: Why does each new video append -1 to the name?

That wouldn't make sense and would be on me anyways as it would be converting mp4 to mp4 with the same name... and I always check the destination (and other things) to make sure things look good so that would be a mistake on my part anyways. The program can be programmed to be smart (as most popular...

Re: Why does each new video append -1 to the name?

Thanks moneymatt4life, I'll try that. musicvid, maybe I wasn't clear enough in my description or you're not aware of how the defaults work. I'd downloaded and ran the program, selected the source, and after selecting the destination folder and naming the first video file (which saved as mp4 by defau...

Why does each new video append -1 to the name?

After making the first video, I click Source > load from file, select a .iso, and Handbrake names the destination file the same as the source file but with a -1 at the end of it. It's nice that it automatically names the destination file after the source file, but I don't want to have to keep removi...
