Re: Stuck on Handbrake 0.10.3 - differences between this and 1.0.3?
Nightly, yes. But release version to release version no. Ok, so a work around might be to keep 0.10.3 and a recent nightly. Had some problems trying to do this before, although it was sometime back in the 0.9.x versions. The two versions just would not co-exist and they kept crashing each other for...

Re: Stuck on Handbrake 0.10.3 - differences between this and 1.0.3?
1. Have there been any major advancements in AC-3 audio in Handbrake since version 0.10.3 until now that would actually merit upgrading? 2. Have there been any substantial improvements for SD encoding or even HD (either two-pass or RF) using x264 since 0.10.3? 3. If I am to install the latest versi...

Re: Stuck on Handbrake 0.10.3 - differences between this and 1.0.3?
FDK was dropped after 0.10.3 for political reasons, the only AAC encoder option on Windows/Linux is the crap one. I am aware of this, but since I am looking to (possibly) abandoning FDK-AAC in favor of AC-3, I am wondering if it is really worth my while upgrading to the latest version? Particularly...

Stuck on Handbrake 0.10.3 - differences between this and 1.0.3?
So I have been stuck on Handbrake 0.10.3 (Windows 7 x64) for over a year because I have wanted to use FDK-AAC. I do not feel comfortable compiling my own from nightly, so if I wanted to use FDK-AAC I had to stick to this version. However recently, I have been running some more test encodes and wonde...

Re: H.264 vs AVCcoding
That's awesome, so open-source Handbrake gives me better files than the big boys! Left hand side is great, right hand side has lost an incredible amount of detail. @arcuser: left is Handbrake, right Adobe Media Encoder. Same bitrates, same filesize. What is CRF? In Handbrake, Video tab - look to th...

Re: FDK HE-AAC V1 or HE-AAC v2, Which does HandBrake Have?
In MediaInfo HE-AAC v1 just appears as HE-AAC. Anything using v2 on the other hand will actually show up as HE-AAC v2.ByteShare wrote: I looked at MediaInfo as well, but it didn't say HE-AAC V1, and wasn't sure if V1 or V2 would even show up in that info.

Re: H.264 vs AVCcoding
I am doing tests to compress .mp4 movies for HTML5 video. Sorry it's not answering your question, but the amount of detail being lost in the new encode is awful, particularly since it is already only a small picture size! I would guess that by changing the bitrate you are negating a lot of the good...

Re: FDK HE-AAC V1 or HE-AAC v2, Which does HandBrake Have?
I know it is clear that at least the FDK HE-AAC V1 is in the source code. I know that it is disabled by default now. What I'm trying to figure out is which version does it have. Any 5.1 encodes I look at with MediaInfo seem to indicate it is indeed HE-AAC (v1) I am pretty sure that HB (in version 0...

Re: Best settings for Ripping DVDs to MP4
If your source is Bluray, GENERALLY SPEAKING you can speed things up by making sure that the detelecine and decomb filters are "Off" in the Filters tab, because MOST BD sources are not interlaced. Some are, though, so you'll only find out by watching the result. He mentioned above "m...

Re: Best settings for Ripping DVDs to MP4
Thanks for the tip about MakeMKV. It took some doing, but it's installed and rips really fast. Just 25 minutes or so. I know took the biggest file it created (title00.m4v) and selected "high profile" and it's estimating 5hrs39m. I think the normal profile is much faster, right? Depends on...

Re: "American Sniper" Backup Problem
I’ve never had such a problem, but it’s been a bit since I actually updated the version that I’m using. While I tend to keep AnyDVD HD current, I rarely use it, once I switched over to MakeMKV. I’ve found the Slysoft forums to be fairly hostile when I had a simple question that was the result of so...

Re: Settings Review (Request)
Awesome! This definitely speeds things up, just tested it out right now. I'm forced to use a 6 minute clip that has a variety of scenes and it's looking almost identical to the encode I had before. File size is the same. Oddly enough, some parts look a tad better while others just look different (n...

Re: Settings Review (Request)
I've been playing around with Handbrake for the past couple or so weeks, doing test after test to see optimal encodes with minimal loss of quality. If you still want to use the Advanced tab: It probably depends on what exactly you are encoding (action, drama, sports, cartoons?) but you will probabl...

Big name movies like this often will need a newer/the newest version (at the time of release).

Re: Feature request: Indicator when adding to queue
In the Windows version you get a number that increments as thing are added to the queue. I don't recall if that was a 0.10.x feature or if it's only in the nightlies. In the Windows version it is only in the nightlies. Was never carried through to 0.10.x - a shame as it is very simple but very help...

Re: Handbrake 0.10.3 Windows - FDK AAC (HE-AAC) 5.1 Audio compatibility problem
I mentioned the bitstream incompatibility with my receiver, because if your WDTV is specifically set for bitstream AAC decoding, and your receiver does not support it, there will also be no stereo output from the WDTV Live. I understand this... Just to confirm, I have the output set so that everyth...

Re: Handbrake 0.10.3 Windows - FDK AAC (HE-AAC) 5.1 Audio compatibility problem
My receiver doesn't have an AAC 5.1 decoder, so I can't test it farther. Unfortunately, my receiver won't decode AAC 5.1, but stereo only, so I'll have to leave it at that. I think you have misunderstood, the above samples can actually be tested on your WDTV. Whether your TV (or any other receiver ...

Re: Handbrake 0.10.3 Windows - FDK AAC (HE-AAC) 5.1 Audio compatibility problem
Not like libavcodec (at least the version currently within Handbrake) is any competition for it (and yes I tested various encodes). And we already lost faac to license issues. The aac encoder in ffmpeg has improved lately, but HB is stuck with libav for now. I thought I also remember reading somewh...
