So it should only be used for the older movies that show a dramatic increase in typical size? Thanks, I'll eventually get this.mduell wrote:No.

Is 'nlmeans' something that I can add to my encode profile for all movies without effecting quality?JohnAStebbins wrote:Use a denoise filter. If you have the time, nlmeans is excellent, but slow.

Re: What's Up with Encoding Old Classic Movies = REALLY Big
Methinks if the OP would post a couple of screenshots from his 1941 film transfer source, we would discover that the theoretical number of consecutive b- frames is not at the root of his file size issue. Using VLC Snap, I created 3 snapshots but I can't get Pastebin to accept them. How should I tra...

Wow, that cut it down from >3Gb to 2.3GB.JohnAStebbins wrote:Use a denoise filter. If you have the time, nlmeans is excellent, but slow.
I don't care about slow, but I do care about quality and size and finding the right balance.

What's Up with Encoding Old Classic Movies = REALLY Big
Please detail your question or problem in as much detail as possible: I am curious about why an old classic movie (Road to Zanzabar 1941 1hr 32min) should be nearly twice as big as a newer movie running over 2 hrs. using the same profile for each encode. This is happening to the 1st 5 old classic (...

Re: Saveable Default for Including Subtitles
All somebody had to tell me was that I needed to create my own preset and not use one of the existing ones to save whatever options I wanted because it damn sure doesn't work using the existing presets. No need the scan or encode to do this either. If you don't know the answer or can't at least be h...

Re: Saveable Default for Including Subtitles
Please note in the instructions they don't ask for your opinion on the necessity of an activity log. And in that bod underlined red on pink text it even says "required". I'm really not sure how it could be made more clear. It could made more clear if it stated that you should post an acti...

Re: Saveable Default for Including Subtitles
OK, just tried that again, and exited program. Reload HB and it comes up with my preset (High Profile) but it doesn't include the setting for subtitles I had just set. It still shows 'Track Selection' as none. What am I missing? Thanks. Reading and following the directions at the top of the page in...

Re: Saveable Default for Including Subtitles
Well, that didn't work either. Neither subtitle or container (MKV) is saved in my preset. It did save my video setting though.

Have I been going about this wrong? Should I create my own preset rather than using one of the existing presets?

Saveable Default for Including Subtitles
After searching a couple of dozen pages (out of 424) looking for an answer I decided I should just ask.
Is there a way to save a subtitle default in the GUI so I don't have to do it every time I load HB again?
Thanks...this was probably answered towards the end of the 424 pages...

JaKohl: While waiting to see what you have or if you are still around to share it, I put together a couple of batch files that are chugging away as we sleep. Working great on my TV series but it's going to more labor intensive on my movies...so I am still interested.

I tried a different series of files with HB and do see chapters now. Now I have to figure out if it was something I did wrong in HBCLI or in the first batch of files.

I'll install VLC and report back.
I find it strange that I am NOT getting any notifications even though I have requested ALL emails and notifications in my profile.

Re: Configuration and quality
A quick look through the posted logs shows that HB is identifying chapters correctly, and reading them from your chapters file correctly. So, as mentioned, it is likely a player issue -- " I appreciate all the help I can get but I'm not using any dedicated player, just PC s/w: PowerDVD 13 and ...

I'm using PowerDVD 13 and XBMC on various PC's to view the output and using plain MakeMKV both those programs recognize the chapters but when using HB the chapters aren't recognized.mduell wrote:What playback device or program says there aren't chapters in the output?

Re: Configuration and quality
Hi all, I'm new to HB but I am having a problem with chapters not showing as well. Two different programs verify chapters are present and working in the source file. The source was created from original DVD and run through MakeMKV. However I have learned recently that HB creates a much smaller file ...
