Outputting in QT .mov?

I don't suppose there is any way to get Handbrake to output as an Apple Quicktime .mov file is there?

I'm having issues with other programs not wanting to work with either format version of what is now produces and making another compression to .mov is time wasting and there is some quality loss.

Re: Help with settings for HD to SD conversion

Made some tests:

Forcing Mp4 in Tools > Options gets a file that will not open in QT7

Setting to Auto in Tools > Options and checking MKV the file will not open in QT7

Setting to Auto in Tools > Options and checking MP4 and the file will open in QT7

Re: Help with settings for HD to SD conversion

.m4v is .mp4 for apple :P What's odd is that the files I made before that end in mp4 will not to open on Quicktime's player version 7.7... but the ones I made that end with .mkv will. And, even though, as you stated, you can select .m4v or .mp4 (under Tools > Options)... even if I force it to .m4v....

Re: Help with settings for HD to SD conversion

Much appreciated! I'm playing around with getting these .m4v files to work in other programs... like my DVD authoring software. So far not with much luck. What's funny is the wrapper in Handbrake seems now to be set to a choice between . mp4 or .mkv. I'm almost certain it was either .m4v or .mkv yes...

Re: Help with settings for HD to SD conversion

Hi! There's no check box for Preserve Aspect Ratio when you set to "custom". This was my issue. I did get something close using the Universal template. Looks to be 16x9 in 16x9. Will need to make a DVD to see how it plays on a 4x3 tv set. The color is weaker and the blacks lighter than the...

Help with settings for HD to SD conversion

Need to convert some 16x9 1080i HD files down to 16x9 SD to make NTSC DVD's from. The SD version needs to be 16x9 in a 4x3 frame in some cases... for the older TV sets some of my clients still have. Can this type of conversion be done using HandBrake? Any thoughts on how would I set up the Picture d...

Re: Interlace in = Interlace out

Doing as you suggest I'm getting scan type - MBAAF with top field first. Flexible interlaced-scan video coding... Macroblock-adaptive frame-field (MBAFF) coding...partly progressive and partly interlaced So my question is... is this true interlaced video similar to what I was inputting? Will it be r...

Re: Interlace in = Interlace out

As I look at the properties now I can see none of the previously made files are still interlaced whether I had all filters off or had decomb on. All are progressive.

Will try again with new settings.

Interlace in = Interlace out

Just a clarification, please...

If I have all filters off then I am converting interlaced video in TO interlaced video out, is this correct?

Is there any reason I would use the decomb filter if I need to keep the video interlaced for TV broadcast?

Thanks!

Re: Advice for buying a "rendering machine"

Testing is not really an option since I know of no one who owns such a machine. I'm left to buying one (probably used) on the web and taking my chances. Making the files larger is also not my goal since I still have to upload the much compressed 15Mbps version to an FTP server. Keeping the files at ...

Re: Advice for buying a "rendering machine"

OK. Fair enough. So my question to using hardware over software has to do with final quality.

Is there any trade off picture quality wise to using a Quicksync hardware encoder system over doing it completely in software?

Re: Advice for buying a "rendering machine"

Getting back to my reason for the post. To find a faster machine to run Handbrake on... I assume I'm likely to do way better on a quad core i7 laptop at 64bit than my current core 2 duo 6700 at 32bit, yes? The issue that has been brought up is the heat generated. Will it be so bad, for what I'm doin...

Re: Advice for buying a "rendering machine"

Yes, the old de-interlace filter. With that enabled my time went up to 3.6 minutes to 1 minute of video as opposed to 9/1 before set to high profile. Really, I cannot see any difference on my computer screen. Not sure how it will hold up on an HD monitor or TV. The file size is also not that much di...

Re: Advice for buying a "rendering machine"

Tried using Normal. No good.

Looks great until the subject moves then the picture breaks up on vertical lines. Blocks and such. Need to stick with High Profile for my client needs. Thanks for the suggestion. It did speed things up about 4 times, though.

Re: Advice for buying a "rendering machine"

When you say "adjust encoding settings" are you talking about the switch under Options for "enable DXVA"? Tried that but got exact same speed. Or do you mean the profiles tab to the right? I have that set to high profile and have the rate to 15Mbps. actually, the client is happy ...

Re: Advice for buying a "rendering machine"

Thanks. Guess what I'm after is a system... portable like a laptop so it can be running in my van... that can do maybe a real time conversion. That is, one minute of video converted in one minute of CPU time. That's all I'd really need. Not looking for something is mere seconds. What I read on this ...

Advice for buying a "rendering machine"

Hello to all and thank you in advance for any help and advice you can provide me. Looking to purchase a "rendering laptop" of sorts to run Handbrake for windows on. Will be used to compress 1080I HD files from around 35 Mbps down to 15 Mpbs in the high profile mode for best quality. The go...
