Mac.jedi... the best tutorial I have ever seen! Thank you. I am using Batch Rip scripts 1.06 and when I ran it against an ISO image I had already created by clicking the Batch Encode from finder when selecting the ISO. I see the following in the terminal window... Are the syntax errors normal? Last ...

Rip to ISO
Is it possible to rip a DVD to ISO using Handbrake? If not, any suggestions on Mac software that will rip a DVD to ISO?

Crash Scanning Source
I've ripped a James Bond 007 DVD (Die Another Day) to hard drive and now trying to import into Handbrake 0.9.2. I select SOURCE and point it to the VIDEO_TS folder. It starts scanning the source and at 14 of 25 titles it just crashes. I've tried OPEN SOURCE (TITLE SPECIFIC) and it crashes when I try...

Handbrake and Apple TV Fooler
I've been using an Apple TV Fooler script to modify (not transcode) divx files into a format that iTunes will add to it's library. This resulting file will also be synced to an Apple TV (and play if Perian is installed). Since this doesn't re-encode the movie, no quality is lost and it is done very ...

Re: AppleTV Video on iPhone
For multiple playback devices you'll have to encode to the lowest common denominator. For you, that will be the iPhone. Apple TV can playback the iPhone files (but not necessarily vice versa). For TV shows I encode using the iPod high-res presets. I do two-pass encoding, set average video bitrate to...

Re: AC3 2 channel?
Thank you for the quick responses. I'll check in QT this evening.
The source DVD actually states 5.1 but I'll check with my receiver when I get a chance.

AC3 2 channel?
I did an encode from a House DVD (Season 1, Episode 1) using the Apple TV preset. Once complete, I loaded with VLC and looked at properties for all the streams. The AC3 stream said 2 channels. Does this sound right? I'm assuming this isn't a 5.1 audio source. As I'm just trying to find out if this s...

I'm working from DVD source.
The question still remains, what's the best way to create a video similar to those that are on iTunes?

Any suggestions on how I can create a pre-set that creates files similar to those used by the iTunes Store?

Re: New GUI Layout Idea
I would love to see a fresh new GUI. Although I'm a Mac head and have used Handbrake for a long time I've started using DVD Fab (in a Windows virtual machine using VMware) because of the user interface and it can rip from DVDs that have more difficult protection. With DVDFab I can select multiple ti...

AVI and anamorphic video bug?
I recently downloaded Handbrake 0.9.1 and am using Mac OS X 10.4.10 and Perian 1.0. I noticed some unexpected behaviour after some test encodes. For my test I'm using Little Miss Sunshine (wide screen), chapter 1. 1. The first encode I start with AppleTV presets. This creates an MP4 file using h.264...

jbrjake: Have you used NTBACKUP (http://www.ntbackup.us), MSBACKUP (built in to 16-bit versions of Windows) or other Windows based backup tools? I don't consider simply copying files a very robust or efficient way to backup files. A backup set (or volume) is generally a single file (compressed archi...

I too have been looking for options to backup my Mac systems and store multimedia on the network. Since switching to the Mac I've really been disappointed with the lack of built-in backup capabilities of Mac OS X and the pathetic third party backup and restore options. Nothing provides basic functio...

Just to make sure I understand what's happenning... 1. DVD resolution is 720x480 2. For widescreen, the DVD contains anamorphic video that must be stretched horizontally to 853x480 so it displays in the intended 16:9 aspect ratio The approach that Visualhub makes is that since the intended native re...

Project to compare encoding for Apple TV
I am planning to do some comparative analysis of encoding a VOB file ripped (using MTR) from a widescreen DVD with various settings between Mediafork and Visualhub. I'd like to also select a few different sample clips that can best illustrate the affects of bitrate. Fast action? Darkness/gradients? ...

Handbrake/Mediafork vs Visualhub
How does Handbrake/Mediafork and Visualhub compare with one another? Aside from the ability to rip protected DVDs, is there a difference in the quality or speed of the encoding? I used MTR to rip (full disc) my 007 Goldfinger DVD. I then used Visualhub and Mediafork to encode the movie to h.264 for ...

I pre-ordered the Apple TV the day it was announced despite my 12 year old TV not having any component video inputs. Last week I purchased a new LCD HDTV so I can use the Apple TV when it arrives. I'm anxious to find a source of content that doesn't involve purchasing it from the iTunes store. I pre...
