Feature Request : Upscaling

Hello, We all know that upscaling is normally not recommended but there are some cases where it can be useful, for example when we want to match the same resolution and bitrate as another video in order to join them lossless. It can be also useful to convert 1440x1080 into 1920x1080 for the software...

How do you determine from the job queue if deinterlacing was activated ?

Hello, My current job is taking a lot of time and I'm wondering if I haven't mistakenly activated deinterlacing. Is it possible to know if deinterlacing was activated for the current job ? I can't find this info anywhere in the job summary. Apparently te only way to have this piece of information is...

Re: Huge Handbrake memory leak (over 27GB) when downscaling a 4k video file

Could you please post your HB log from this second encode. Here it is, and I can provide you with a private download link of the video that causes the memory leak if you need it. HandBrake 1.2.2 (2019022300) OS: Microsoft Windows NT 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40G...

Re: Huge Handbrake memory leak (over 27GB) when downscaling a 4k video file

Hello, I've just had another memory leak with a totally different video (a .mp4). In the below video capture, I stopped Handbrake at 21GB memory usage but it would use ALL my available physical and virtual memory up to freezing the whole computer and eventually BSOD on me. I understand that maybe th...

Huge Handbrake memory leak (over 27GB) when downscaling a 4k video file

Description of problem or question: Hello, there is an important memory leak when I try to encode a particular 4K video file into 1080p. I hope you can fix it because it BSODed my PC twice and it took me a lot of time to know that it was Handbrake that was crashing my computer :( I have to say that...

Really trying to encode 1080p at 2 Mbps or even 400 kbps?
H265 at 1080p 2000Kbs is better than you could imagine. Just try it. Sorry for going off-topic.

Re: Is x265 AMD VCE GPU encoding really better quality than x264 CPU for a 1080p video ?

AMD VCE H.265 is worse than x264 at the same bitrate. I don't agree with your opinion. Is it based on your experience? Or just theoretical knowledge? Because my experience says otherwise... On mine too. On my computer, AMD VCE H265 (Quality Preset) looks better than software x264 (Medium Preset) at...

Is Handbrake using AMD VCE hardware acceleration on my computer ? (screen recording included)

Description of problem or question: Hello, I have an AMD RADEON RX580 graphics card with drivers installed. I'm not sure but it seems that even though "Enable AMD VCE Encoder" is checked, Handbrake tries to use the QSV encoder and reverts to software encoder because it didn't find it. So Handbrake ...

Re: Is x265 AMD VCE GPU encoding really better quality than x264 CPU for a 1080p video ?

AMD VCE H.265 is worse than x265 at the same bitrate. Thanks everybody for the replies but I made a mistake in my post. I wanted to compare AMD VCE x265 to software x264 at the same bitrate. So, is AMD VCE x265 better or worse than software x264 at the same bitrate ? Thanks and sorry again for the ...

Is x265 AMD VCE GPU encoding really better quality than x264 CPU for a 1080p video ?

Hello everybody, Did you find x265 AMD VCE encoding better quality than x265 CPU encoding ? We know that GPU support usually trades speed for quality but is the quality so low that we would get better quality with a 100% software x264 encoding than a hardware x265 encoding, for a 1080p video ? Thank...

Re: BUG : Batch encoding to H265 encodes to H264 instead

Hi Pitch, Sorry if my explanations are confusing (english is not my first language) but for a safe batch encoding, the very first thing you must do after selecting the source folder is to select your preset (with single click) . If you do this, you are guaranteed that all the files of your queue wil...

Re: BUG : Batch encoding to H265 encodes to H264 instead

Oh I understand, but maybe the dev team should put a warning like "Do you want to apply these settings to this file or the whole queue ?". Better be warned than waste hours of encoding.

Re: BUG : Batch encoding to H265 encodes to H264 instead

Steps to avoid the problem : Select the H265 custom Preset BEFORE adding files to queue Your preset has to be selected before you add to queue. Yes I know but it's a bug in my opinion. We sould be able to select the preset before or after. I lost literally 30 hours of encoding because I made that m...

We're not against supporting it anyway, if people want to use it… once the license compatibility issues are solved, that is. And I thank you for taking into account my feature request :) NVenc may not give great quality, but those who have a slow computer but an NVENC-Compatible graphic card may fi...

[Accepted] More clear Deinterlace menu

Hello, The Deinterlace menu is incredibly vague for such a sofisticated software. My request : make it more clear. Instead of "Fast, Slow, Slower", you should write something more explicit to describe which deinterlace methods are used. You can write a description in the blank space on the right or ...
