Will the same RF value get the same quality in h.264 and 265?

If I set the same RF in a 264 and 265 will the output be the same quality? Or would I be able to bump the RF down a notch to get the same result since the 265 codec is newer/better? Also same with the encoding speed (slow, fast, faster, etc). Would fast and faster be equal on 264 and 265 or would th...

Re: Poor CPU utilization in Handbrake

Ah, turning off the filter helped. So I'm guessing when I ran Handbrake through Handbrakebatch it was bypassing the filter setting which is why it was able to get full cpu usage. Now even though I've turned off all the filters it still says "x264 Unparse: ref=2:deblock=-1,-1:weightp=1:subme=6:psy-rd...

Poor CPU utilization in Handbrake

Description of problem or question: When I change the encoder speed (fast, faster, veryfast) Handbrake reduces my CPU usage so that the encode takes the same amount of time no matter what the setting. I can't figure out why it is doing this. Steps to reproduce the problem (If Applicable): Ran an en...

Calculate estimated size and processing time from Live Preview

I may be mistaken, but it seems to me that after processing the 15 second Live Preview in the Preview window, that clip should provide enough information to give a rough file size estimate, right? I know estimated output size gets requested but isn't possible because you can't know before encoding, ...

Add support for .trec video files

Hi, can you add support for the .trec video file format? It's the video format used by popular screen recording software Camtasia Studio. It plays fine in VLC but cannot be recognized by Handbrake.

Re: Why aren't "Additional Options" commands working for me?

I got Handbrake running in Parallels and the rotate command worked perfectly. Hope to see the functionality somehow brought over to the Mac version in the future. Thanks for your help!

Re: Why aren't "Additional Options" commands working for me?

It was actually a bug in the old advanced tab that allowed arguments for HandBrake to be passed in via the advanced encoder options tab. The old tab is still there, and it still works like this. (can be enabled in preferences) So I see the Advanced tab and there is a text field at the bottom labell...

Re: Why aren't "Additional Options" commands working for me?

Ah, I see. So it no longer works in Windows now, too?

Seems like this field should be removed to avoid confusion, no? Is there any actual use for it now? Is the plan to get it to work again in the future?

Why aren't "Additional Options" commands working for me?

I'm trying to use the ", --rotate=3" command in the Additional Options field under the video tab to have a video rotated. Based on this thread http://superuser.com/questions/418985/can-handbrake-flip-rotate-a-video it appears most people were able to rotate videos just fine simply by entering this t...

Re: Requests for the Mac version

So I guess I didn't notice it but Handbrake already does check the destination folder for conflict right now if you select the source folder as the destination manually. The safety check for this feature is already implemented, no extension necessary on this part. There is no more risk of overwritin...

Re: Keyboard shortcut and button for Add All Titles To Queue

Ah, ok. So far I haven't had any problems with the Add All Titles to Queue, but occassionally when I'm running conversions on my queue and I drag in another batch of files the scanning of the new titles freezes on the last title and all the interface options go grey until I restart the program (befo...

More white space to right of queue delete buttons for mac

Due to Mac OS's contextual scroll bar (invisible when not there but shows during scrolling and if mouse is over it) it tends to cover up most of the delete button in the queue every time the list is scrolled. If I am deleting a large number of queue items this gets annoying as I have to click delete...

Select multiple queue items for delete/move

I'd like to be able to select multiple queue items (both shift-click a range of files or cmd-click a bunch of individual files like you would in any OS file system) and be able to delete all selected or move all of them by dragging. It's quite tedious right now if I have to move a batch of files up/...

Keyboard shortcut and button for Add All Titles To Queue

Once I've set everything up this is probably my most used command in the program. Would be nice to have a shortcut and toolbar button for it.

Re: Retain original file names for batches

open the folder, select all and drop to get past it.
As far as I know you cannot drag a bunch of individual files into Handbrake, you can only drag a folder or a single file. Am I mistaken? This doesn't seem like a possible solution.

Re: Retain original file names for batches

EDIT: Now I'm confused, I noticed that this only happens some of the time. Some folders the filename is retained while others they are not. Is this dependent on the file name or something? An example of a file and folder name where the above behavior happens to me (original name is stripped) is fold...

Retain original file names for batches

Currently, when I drag one file into Handbrake it outputs a file with the same file name and extension. But if I import a whole folder for a batch job it discards the file names and names everything after the containing folder with a number at the end. What I'd like to propose is that the file name ...

Re: Requests for the Mac version

Also, currently if I add a duplicate filename to the handbrake cue Handbrake does a check and tells me "There is already a queue item for this destination. Do you want to overwrite?". A duplicate name check plus error messaging is already implemented, I don't see why this couldn't extend to checking...

Re: Requests for the Mac version

Here's another simple idea instead of the trashcan to avoid any overwrites. When you select the "Destination same as source" option the old files are placed in a subfolder (named "converted") while the new files take their place in the current folder. The benefits are there is no risk of overwriting...

Re: Requests for the Mac version

Using the OS's trash can gets around the objections to #2 (which I would really like to see, too). I'd love to be able to set same destination as source, and if there does happen to be a conflicting file name then just move the old one to the trash can/recycle bin. This is why it was invented.

Re: auto delete source file when encoding complete

How about an option to "Move to trash" then? It doesn't solve the OP's issue of limited disk space directly, but it does solve the issue of decluttering if you have videos spread out amongst many folders in your queue which I do have to do fairly often. It gets rid of the files but just not permanen...
