Re: why no AAC passthrough ?
One funny thing though is that I'm unable to include FLAC audio export in my video encoder settings (mkv ; H265 ; FLAC), so I have to manually set the audio export option for each individual video recording. Why is this so ?

Re: why no AAC passthrough ?
Yea, when choosing MKV.
Ok, that helps.
Would be nice though to have lossless passthru...

Re: why no AAC passthrough ?
ok so did another recording with filmic with AIFF audio settings. My bad, indeed, handbrake doesn't allow for audio passthrough with ALAC neither... So indeed no uncompressed audio format is handled by handbrake. Thus I stand corrected... This being said, why is this the case ? What's the hurdle for...

ok, will have to dig for that one, cause it was a while ago. Alternatively, will simply shoot something tomorrow and post log here.

Re: why no AAC passthrough ?
But in that case, why does it accept passthru with AIFF, which isn't AAC neither ?

why no AAC passthrough ?
Description of problem or question: Hi, have been shooting videos with variety of apps on my iPhone (Filmic Pro, Movie Pro) and am able to record the audio uncompressed (mono AIFF for Filmic, stereo PCM for Movie Pro). Now, in order to retain the original uncompressed audio while converting the H26...

Subtitle synchronisation ?
Hi,
i tried to burn my srt file in a mp4 video, but the timing of the subtitles are slightly off track.
Is there a way to check that they're properly syncing with the video before burning them ?

AV1 support ?
Hi, now that the AV1 codec is officially released, can we expect handbrake being able to encode in AV1 shortly?

Re: H265 conversion quality in handbrake?
@nhyone well, basically, what bothers me, is the loss of detail in the facial features of the lecturer. It's quite less sharp than the original. There isn't a lot of movement or flashy action sections, obviously, but if there's a way to retain the quality of the lecturer's face, that would be welcom...

Re: H265 conversion quality in handbrake?
@mduell,
so, what is it good for?
Isn't a slower encoding speed supposed to yield better results?

Re: H265 conversion quality in handbrake?
@arcuser it was a 40 min. long academic lecture recorded with my 6th gen iPod touch. I'll try to play with the RF settings to see whether it helps. I tried to play with the encoder options : choosing "placebo" instead of default medium, but that doesn't yield a much improved quality, altho...

Re: H265 conversion quality in handbrake?
@ s55,
well, according to
http://x265.readthedocs.org/en/default/lossless.html
H265 does support lossless encoding. But this is the command-line instructions only.
Why isn't there a simple check button for lossless encoding in handbrake?

Re: H265 conversion quality in handbrake?
well, ahem, i tried to toggle the RF value both to the extreme right (value "0") and the extreme left (value "51") and both option yield like 50 Mb like files that are utterly low quality and unwatchable... Obviously this isn't the right parameter...

Re: H265 conversion quality in handbrake?
ok, thanks, never thought of that...
Silly question : in order to augment the quality, do I have to move the cursor to the left or to the right?

H265 conversion quality in handbrake?
Hye, this is kinda follow-up to my previous post. I'm using handbrake Version 0.10.3 x86_64 (2016012200) on Mac os X El Capitan 10.11.3 (15D21) in order to convert .mov files recorded on my iPod touch 6th generation running iOS 9.2 to H.265 file format, which can now be played without problem by the...

H265 playback on iOS after Handbrake conversion
Hi, my issue is the proper playback of H265 HEVC handbrake converted files on iOS. I'm not sure whether it's due to the iPod's hardware, the iOS apps I'm running these files on or to Handbrake's conversion settings. Here's the detail : I'm using my iPod touch 6gen iOS 9.2 for video (and audio-) reco...

settings to convert video for ipod nano
hi, I've spent several sleepless nights trying to figure out a way to find the correct settings to convert a quicktime .mov video to an acceptable format for an ipod nano 4G. This is what I did : 1. export from keynote 5 with frame size 480x360. 2. in HB, i tried about all settings (format MP4, vide...
