"Let me guess, you have no idea how they work?"

Guilty, as charged.

Is there a tool that can copy menus from an input ISO to an output ISO?

Output ISO with menus & special features?

Obviously, Handbrake is very handy for many different tasks, and certainly not the least of these is that it can accept a .iso input file, e.g. from a DVD rip, can find the main title, and then can quite easily and simply transcode that to a (modern & compact) .mp4 file. For anyone who wants to make...

Re: WMA2 -> AAC -- Extreme audio distortion

>So, how is someone to reproduce this non-bug you're not reporting? Take the input file I provided (example2.mkv). Run it through Handbrake with all default settings. Then listen to the resulting output file. If it sounds totally crappy, and not at all like the sound of the original input file (part...

Re: WMA2 -> AAC -- Extreme audio distortion

musicvid, 1. As I stated in my posting, I used *all* default settings in the Windows GUI version. Is that not enough for you to figure out what AAC encoder was used? If not please explain why not. That will be enlightening for me. Thanks. 2. As I also stated in my posting, I am *not* reporting a bug...

WMA2 -> AAC -- Extreme audio distortion

I'm not ready to call this a "bug". I'm posting here to request others to try to independently reproduce my results. I have used HandBrake to convert a significant number of WMV/WMA files to AVC/AAC. This almost always works well and produces excelent results. Recently however I have noticed that th...

Re: Latest handbrake on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS?

Thank you, s55, for the info on faac. That certainly does clear up the mystery.

Thanks alo, RonJohn, for the info about getting a list of installed package contents. (I knew how to do this on FreeBSD, but not really on Linux... till now.)

Hardware for transcoding? (Can I get fast, cheap AND quality?)

I looked in the FAQ and didn't see anything in there which answered this rather obvious question... I'll be upgrading & buying a new processor and motherboard one of these days soonish. I've read about Intel QuickSync and the nice effects that this has speed of Handbrake transcoding. But unfortunate...

Re: Latest handbrake on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS?

>AAC (libavcodec) is the default, so I'm not sure what you were expecting. I was expecting to see at least some sort of change/difference... something like "+ encoder: AAC (faac)"... you know... to let me know that I'm now using some different audio encoder... as I have requested via the "-E faac" o...

Re: Latest handbrake on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS?

Ummmm... so I added "-E faac" to my command line(s) and just started up a new transcode, and looking at the text output, both before and after, I'm seeing the exact same line in both: + encoder: AAC (libavcodec) So it seems like my addition of "-E faac" to my command line(s) had no actual effect. Wh...

Re: Latest handbrake on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS?

mod16, Thanks again for your really helpful responses. Regarding the GUI... ummm... yea. It does appear that I can invoke that from an xterm window via "ghb". Really glad you told me! I would never have figured that out on my own. It ain't exactly an intutive name for the thing. I guess that naming ...

Re: Latest handbrake on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS?

I am indeed using the CLI, in preference to the GUI, generally, but there are occasions where I find it... ummm... educational to use the GUI. (I have learned a lot just from scrutinizing the options available in the GUI.) So I do still want to have the GUI version installed. But how can I achieve t...

Re: Latest handbrake on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS?

Thank you both {mduell,mod16}, for your assistance. as you can see, I didn't lie when i said I was new to Ubuntu! :-) I really didn't know about these other steps I needed to take when adding another repository source. I have done these additional steps now and... YIPEE! At least now I seem to have ...

Re: Latest handbrake on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS?

Ummm... I have to say NEVERMIND again. I just now performed the process described on this web page: https://launchpad.net/~stebbins/+archive/ubuntu/handbrake-releases Specifically, I did this command: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:stebbins/handbrake-releases Then I tried (as root) doing a fresh: apt-g...

Re: Latest handbrake on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS?

About installing the latest HandBrakeCLI... umm... NEVERMIND! I googled and found the answer easily.

I still do need an answer to my question about transcoding audio to AAC however. Any helpful guidance on that would be greatly appreciated.

Latest handbrake on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS?

Sorry to post such a lame question. I could probably find the answer by googling for an hour, but I prefer to just ask and save myself the time. I'm not very experienced with Ubuntu, but started using it recently. Not knowing any better, I just installed whichever version of it seemed to be on offer...

Re: Need help understanding Constant Quality recomendations

Only you can determine if the image quality preserved at any quality setting is a waste of space. One might generally say that any file that comes out bigger than the source is a waste of space. So, if I am understanding correctly, it might make sense, for my purposes, to select a target file size ...

Questions about audio bitrate

I have been using Handbrake for awhile now, and I've found it to be a fine tool. I always use Constant Quality settings, and never use either target file size or average bitrate when having Handbrake do transcoding for me. In general I don't care much about output file sizes because the output files...

Need help understanding Constant Quality recomendations

On the following page: https://trac.handbrake.fr/wiki/ConstantQuality it is recommended that users use a constant quality setting of 20 for encoding Standard Def (DVD) material or a setting of 22 for High Def (720/1080) material. Given the fact that... as explained elsewhere on that same page... low...
