Considering it's high profile, and uses full main profile (cabac and b-pyramid) ... yes, much better. well, i tried encoding a dvd and it is so slow on a C2D 1.8g (about 2 to 3 fps). i encoded a portion, it looked good on vlc but hard to say how good. now, it didnt play on my xbox. i thought it was...

brjake, do you think that in theory the new preset you posted could result in better PQ than the @TV preset?

Re: Xbox360 December update - best settings?

Now the xbox360 December update is out (see http://blogs.msdn.com/xboxteam/archive/2007/11/30/december-2007-video-playback-faq.aspx for details) I'm curious to know what folks think would be the best settings for video. At this stage I'm just going straight for basic AVI @ 2500kbps and MP3 but open...

This is the 360 preset that will be in the next release of HB (should work on PS3 as well): Code: **************************************** * Xbox 360 * ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ HandBrake's settings for the Microsoft Xbox 360. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ AVC/H.264 Video ...

So the XBOX 360 can't handle 5.1 Pass Through MP4 files? I would like to keep 5.1 audio on my movies if possible when streaming to my XBOX. But I noticed it won't work unless I downsample to some stereo format. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. the x360 doesnt support 5.1 in h.264, only...

my ibook g4 1.2g rips appletv setting (h.264) at ~ 2fps so it doesnt surprise me at all.

as mentioned above by bagss, it all depends on your settings. mpeg4 will be much much faster. encoding to mpeg-4 (using target size 1gb for instance) results in ~ 8 to 9fps.

well, the symptoms are the same: lockup + black screen. i do believe that it's more logical that it locks up at the begining of the file rather than the end... i am no dev but i think it has something to do with the header.

personally i use the appletv settings with 2nd pass and results are perfect. never had a crash or anything... the only problems i had were with some mpeg-4 encoded stuff. it (hard-)crashed the xbox360 while it tries to read the header. black screen, unresponsive controller... can you exit the movie ...

Quote: i think i've read there is no big impact... Umm...Very big impact...better quality. i think the question waws turbo pass or not. what i meant was as long as one chooses 2nd pass, turbo pass or normal first pass result in practically no difference at all. that's what turbo pass is all about, ...

I have been messing around with different settings on pc handbrake to try to get very good quality. So far I know for sure that 1200 2 pass appleTV presets will work and stream with no problems. The quality is not that great so right now I am in the process of trying out 1500 with 2 pass and 2pass(...
