Re: Handbrake for High Core Count Utilization

Run multiple copies. There are limits to how much the various encoders will "spread the load". And not all filters allow more than one thread, which also imposes speed limitations. Not every problem gets "better" with more cores. Beyond a certain point (which varies with the task), the overhead of k...

Re: Windows freezes ONLY when I'm using Handbrake?

Wasn't there an issue with Ryzen processors and Windows 10 early on, which required a BIOS patch on many motherboards? I also found a message on one of the AMD support boards (first hit for "ryzen locking up" on google) about lockups attributed to under-powered power supplies, and recommending a MIN...

Re: converting large library to HEVC

You can specify a range of audio tracks, and can specify "copy" as the encoder. As long as your source tracks use codecs that are allowed for "passthru" to your destination container.

Re: Advanced options

For what purpose do you NEED the Advanced tab? Make the case for bringing it back. "Because I use it sometimes" isn't very persuasive, when compared to the number of issues brought about by its use by people who did not know what they were doing. The graphic interface contains only a fraction of the...

Re: HandBrakeCLI trouble getting it started

Unzip it into a directory. Use the path to the file as the command. Assuming you put it in the same directory as handbrake's GUI normally resides (c:\program files\handbrake\), the command to run it would be "c:\program files\handbrake\handbrakecli.exe" (the quotes are important because of the space...

Advance tab removed by design. It's been obsolete for years. Instructions that tell you to use it are for versions more than 5 years old.

Re: Noob question

Without a log, we can only guess, but... The likely cause is trying to rip an optical disk with handbrake, using an unsupported 3rd-party library, that had problems reading the disk. But that's a guess.

Re: Advanced options

If someone tells you how to do something using the advanced tab, they're probably referring to a version of handbrake from 5 or more years ago, when the presets were not as good as they are now.

Probably because you are using filters on the DVDs that limit how fast the processor can go.

It would be a lot easier to answer ambiguous questions like this with the REQUIRED logs for the problematic rips.

Re: Setting the Title.

Many DLNA servers get the display name from the metadata field "Title" in the file. Handbrake does not currently offer a way to set that name directly; it's copied from the source file. It is likely that whatever you're recording the source with is setting "Title" for you, without regard to the othe...

Re: Muffled Audio only on one Mac mini but play fine elsewhere

On the audio page, you can select whether to "convert" between codecs, or "passthru" audio sources to the output file. Since you have AAC on the source, and you want AAC on the output file, you can just "passthru". On the audio tab, next to where it says "Codec" next to the source, click on the pull...

As explained to me, HDR10 is "one metadata color map to rule the whole video", Dolby Vision is "per-frame metadata color map", and HDR10+ is "something that is kind of like DV without having to license DV".

Re: Can I use QSV HW Accel from Linux GUI or command line ?

When I last tested QSV vs. x264, I used "similar" settings for both. By that I mean simply changing the encoder used, leaving other settings the same, even though there isn't an exact match between quality settings between the two encoders. My results were a 5% increase in size for the QSV-encoded f...

Re: Handbrake Unable to Rip DVD? Problem DVD DataBase?

Yes, I use MakeMKV. As for tips, I'd just recommend looking at this topic on the MakeMKV forum once you play a bit with it. If you decide to move into BD and especially UHD BD, there are some other topics (rather long) that cover what you need in hardware for "best experience", but it gets super con...

Re: Handbrake Unable to Rip DVD? Problem DVD DataBase?

There are a number of topics on the MakeMKV board about the error you got. The install file has a key that expired at the end of January, but there is a key that is valid until the end of this month posted in their announcements section.

Re: Handbrake Unable to Rip DVD? Problem DVD DataBase?

Direct ripping of commercial (i.e., encrypted) DVDs has not been supported in handbrake since November 2008 (i.e., over a decade). The same hack that made it work prior to that still exists, and some people recommend it, but it isn't supported because: The third-party add-on is something the handbra...

Re: Ripping a Dvd on Mac with subtitles

For future reference, my experience has been that the "forced" flag is rarely used. If you are using "Foreign audio scan", you SHOULD have "Forced only" checked, because it makes the scan more flexible. When you select tracks manually, though, just know that you are more likely to find the "forced" ...

Extrapolations made from incorrectly selected samples leads to unwarranted conclusions. One of the primary reasons for the "preview" is to determine whether or not the video has "letter boxing", which can be cropped off. It is entirely possible to take 20 samples of a video, determine that it is "sa...

Re: How to create one output file from multiple input files in the queue

You cannot merge input files in handbrake.

Best way to do it is with a video editor, especially if the specifications between files differ.

Otherwise, you can chain them together using tools like mkvtoolnix mkvmerge, ffmpeg command lines, and other similar tools.
