Re: Resizing

What you describe seems to be an anamorphic video (non-square pixels), but it should have a pixel aspect ratio included in the video stream. This is where logs of an encode make things possible - we can see what handbrake saw when it read the file. While it won't be the ideal situation, do an encode...

Re: Subtitles not encoding in new version

It looks like the VOB is damaged. If you deselect the only subtitle track, does the encode complete? It doesn't in your log: [14:45:00] sync: got 67052 frames, 81691 expected This is the same sort of thing I see when the disk experienced a read error, and handbrake just knows that the data stream st...

Re: Subtitles not encoding in new version

Are you trying to decode from an ISO of a DVD? It appears that whatever created your file did not remove the CSS encryption from it. Since handbrake does not include decryption (it's not a disk ripper, after all), things are getting confused. Have you tried reading the ISO with a disk ripper like Ma...

Re: Resizing

Ah, the Pixel Aspect Ratio may need some adjustment as part of this, too. But that requires looking at things on a "flat" (no zooming) monitor so you can verify that the video is squished, rather than the TV zoom squishing it. Does it look squished if you change the TV zoom to "none&q...

Re: Resizing

To be frank, upscaling your video will make every real pixel be 10x10 pixels on the screen. I dislike trying to fit DVD video (twice the resolution you're starting with) on to a 4K display, unless I'm going to be sitting a LONG way away from it. The TV has circuitry in it to do smoothing of the extr...

Re: Resizing

That depends on the TV and the video. Are they the same aspect ratio? Given your source, probably not.

In that case, any upscaling for "fill" will necessitate either cropping to match the display aspect ratio, or distortion to stretch the video to match.

Within the GUI, you cannot upscale. You need to use the command line version for that.

Re: Batch encoding with subtitles

Batch add requires that you have a usable "selection behavior" for both audio and subtitles in the current, saved version of the active preset. If the selection behavior doesn't find tracks that match the rules, they are not included. Those rules only work for subtitles that are included I...

The subtitle track work-around was already being done in the encode you sent the log for. Your player didn't see it... which is unfortunate.

Re: How to access and go to chapter points

Key information: "ChapterMarkers": true, "AlignAVStart": true, "File": "E:\\Handbrake files\\Alaska Cruise 1-1.mp4", MP4 files have limitations that other containers do not. One of them is a lack of chapter marker support in the standard. MKV files have "...

Re: Is Handbrake doing 2-pass encoding even if not selected?

In the future, there may be other features added that trigger a "first pass" through the file, but it's currently just bit rate and FAS.

Re: Is Handbrake doing 2-pass encoding even if not selected?

There are reasons to do a first pass, even if you're not doing it for bit rate optimization. Are you using Foreign Audio Search for a subtitle track? That forces a first pass, looking for the proper subtitle track. (this is where those pesky required encode logs come in SO handy in providing answers...

Re: HandBrake error message

Handbrake does not remove copy protection. If you read that it does, ask the person who posted that to explain why it doesn't work. The 3rd-party add-on library method has been deprecated for a dozen years now.

Rollin's got your answer.

Re: Handbrake Blueray scan panics M1 Mac Mini

Handbrake is not a ripper, and does not deal with copy protection schemes found on commercial disks. Adding 3rd-party code to try to force it to be one is not supported; you need to ask whoever told you how to do it why it isn't working. At least one of the ways to do it has a history of causing cra...

Re: burn-in subtitles to the top

Short answer: No. Long answer: Positioning of the subtitles depends on what the subtitle indicates its position to be. And we have zero information about that. Image-type subtitles, such as those provided on DVDs and Blurays, the position is set by the disk author. SSA/ASS subtitles have position in...

Without seeing an encode log for the job, we cannot know what you asked handbrake to do.

Re: How to access and go to chapter points

The encode log will tell us more than the scan log, because the scan log shows that the DVD has chapters, but what type file you asked handbrake to output affects how they're's inserted in the file, and whether or not your TV will find them.

Re: Advanced tab equivilents

So, you're saying that you cannot use the "advanced options" box on the video tab of the GUI, but you CAN use the CLI?

If you understand what the options do, being able to directly enter the arguments would seem to be a saner way to make changes than to move a slider around.

Re: Copyright/DVD encryuption/proection work around no longer working?

The DLL you are using to force this issue DOES work "mostly", if you have the correct version that matches handbrake. libdvdcss.dll is the name of the 32-bit version of the DLL. Handbrake is no longer a 32-bit program. "Mostly" is a key phrase - that library only removes the CSS ...
