Re: MP4 output chosen but keeps saving as MKV

When doing "batch add", the settings in the SAVED preset are used.

After you changed the output to MP4, did you save the preset?

Re: How to switch on subtitles?

Selecting "forced only" will often result in no subtitles included in the file, because it requires that the subtitles themselves be tagged with the "forced" attribute.

"Children learn from playing. If something doesn't work, they try something else. Adults can learn that way, too, once we get over the idea that failing is bad. In learning, failure isn't an option, it's required." It doesn't cost anything but time to experiment with the settings on handbrake. Take ...

Re: Using the Automatic Naming feature

The usefulness varies with how you're using handbrake. My "auto" set up uses {source_folder_name} to decide which directory the destination file goes to, and {source} for the format of the name itself. "Replace underscores with a space" is checked, but I don't let handbrake change the case or remove...

Re: Handbrake stuck on Pass 1 of 1 0.00%

Over on the MakeMKV forum, there is a lot of discussion about "best drives". Since handbrake isn't intended for ripping, it's probably better to discuss such things on a ripping forum. I personally own an LG BP50NB40 and a Lite-On EB1, both of which have worked well for me. I also have several USB D...

Re: Handbrake stuck on Pass 1 of 1 0.00%

Drive DVD+R-DL [Censored] DVD-RAM UJ8C0 1.00 has RPC protection that can not be bypassed. Change drive region or update drive firmware from http://tdb.rpc1.org. Errors likely to follow. That's the key part of this. That's a rather old drive. And it doesn't appear to have alternative (region free) f...

Re: Handbrake stuck on Pass 1 of 1 0.00%

Did MakeMKV say anything about "drive has region coding that cannot be disabled" or similar? Normally, it will work around that, but some drives refuse to work. That would explain the problem with handbrake, since the third-party add-on doesn't work as well with out-of-region disks. Sometimes, a dis...

You posted the SCAN portion of the activity log. We need to see what the ENCODE did, which will be in the encode portion of the log. It should be there, if you actually did the encode, to discover the issue.

Re: Encode seperate files, er, seperately?

You have the wrong characters in your auto naming macro; Curly braces {} are what is expected. Instead you have parens ().

{title} will be replaced with the title number of the batch, while (title) will just be used as a literal, as in:
D:\Vita\mp4\(title).mp4

Re: Downloaded 1.2.0 Handbrake Wont Run

"Won't run" is rather ambiguous.

Is your system Win7/32-bit, or 64-bit? You don't say in either of your posts. Handbrake has been 64-bit only since 1.1.x. That's one thing that would prevent it from running.

1.2.2 is the current version; does it still fail?

Re: Change Sequence of Available Audio-Language-Tracks?

First recommendation, get a current version of handbrake. 0.10.2 is around 4 years old, and there have been major revisions since then. And you should not use the versions that are found in your Linux distribution's repositories - Mint is known for distributing broken versions. Once you have a curre...

Re: Video/Quality settings

The worst enemy of a new user is a Google search for "best settings handbrake". The advice you will find is usually old (applies to versions that are 3 or more years out of date), inaccurate, or tailored for what the poster thought "everyone" does, when it actually was a fairly niche-level use. The ...

Batch processing should produce one output file for each input file. Handbrake does NOT combine/merge video files; it is actually something people keep begging for.

Re: Blu Ray to H265 QSV suggestions??

If you're using QSV, you're leaving "quality and space on the table", because QSV isn't particularly efficient. More so than the fast software preset does.

With 1080p video, fast x264 vs. QSV h265 may be a better for quality and space. The equation trends to h265 encoding above that.

Re: Batch conversion

"Batch add" uses the current, SAVED preset to create the batch queue. If you have made changes to the preset, you must save them (to a new name, if you changed a "stock" preset), make that revised preset the current one by selecting it, THEN do the batch add.

Re: Converted Files Finish Fast & Are 3kb?

As I said, the P90 disks apparently (based on traffic on other forums) use some rather peculiar navigation, which gives programs that are expecting a good DVD structure fits. Just copying DVD data to your hard drive doesn't fix that issue, and handbrake's DVD navigation code is not always up to the ...

I have loads of other videos that were shot with an iPhone and the Canon looking at the same exact content (one in close up and one far away), and their file sizes are wildly different when output. That's the point of this post. So, how are two videos of different zoom levels "the exact same conten...

Re: HEVC Encoder Level?

The "Level" is strictly dependent upon the bit rate, and is automatically determined by the encoder. There are HEVC-specific charts available that show the limits imposed by each level. If you want "level 4.1", you need to set encoding parameters that exceed 66,846,720 samples per second, but less t...

Re: HEVC Encoder Level?

To do what you want, you have to use x264, because the profiles in h265 are different than they are in h264.

Handbrake lists the profiles that are available for the encoder you chose.

Re: Converted Files Finish Fast & Are 3kb?

P90 disks are infamous for being "barely readable" in DVD players (just within the DVD specification), and difficult to rip. Attempting to use handbrake to rip them, especially without the unsupported third-party library to remove encryption, is NOT going to work. You can try other tools like MakeMK...
