Re: Handbrake has stopped working... Please help I'm desperate

What is weird is that it is the .NET framework being mentioned as the source. I'm not an expert on the internal workings of handbrake to say why it would be popping up like that mid-encode. Hopefully one of the developers will pop in with greater knowledge. It is possible that there is a problem in ...

Re: Handbreak not reading disks from laptop dvd drive or from external Blu-ray drive.

There is a tab marked "Chapters". On it, there is a checkbox marked "Create chapter markers". It's at the top left side of the tab.

Re: Will not handle folders.

In Preferences->Output files, what do you have in the various fields? These are important when doing "batch add", because the file names and paths are generated by the rules on that tab.

Re: Saving defaults for Video, Audio and Subtitles

The frame rate of the MKV file is exactly 25, as from the DVD. But the frame rate of the M4V / MP4 from HandBrakeCLI is 24.964370, as seen by VLC. This seems to be NTSC, not PAL. So there seem to be a bug in the HQ preset? Actually, the 24.964370 is appropriate for PAL; for NTSC, it would be 29.97 ...

Re: Saving defaults for Video, Audio and Subtitles

If you want, you can limit what is encoded during testing. Adding, for example, -c 3 will only encode chapter 3 of the video you're playing with. Pick a chapter that has a fair amount of motion and detail as your target, to have the "worst case" test.

Re: Saving defaults for Video, Audio and Subtitles

You don't need -O if you're going to MKV or Webm (same container with more limited codec support), because it's a MP4-thing. I don't use Webm, because the video codec takes much longer to encode than h264. When my target is MKV, I use -f mkv instead. DVD video is interlaced and often telecined, so d...

Re: Saving defaults for Video, Audio and Subtitles

Yeah, MakeMKV's language preferences are not as good as handbrake's. If you set a preferred language in MakeMKV and there is no track for that language, it will skip all audio. Sometimes a bit difficult to explain to people... Several of us have asked for the ability to give a list... The author has...

Re: Saving defaults for Video, Audio and Subtitles

This one will be a bit off, because I have an audio encoder (fdk_aac) that isn't available in "stock" handbrake, and is from when I was ripping Star Trek: Enterprise. title %time% "%~n1 M4V" & "C:\Program Files\Handbrake\HandBrakeCLI.exe" -i "Z:\Star Trek\Enterprise\%~n1.mkv" -t 1 -o "V:\tv series\S...

Re: Saving defaults for Video, Audio and Subtitles

M*A*S*H is one series I haven't encoded. I gifted it to a friend for his birthday, and normally he'd have had me rip it and encode it, but I was busy doing all of the available Star Trek series (over 180 disks), so I told him he was on his own. Otherwise, I'd offer my encoding command line. The big ...

Re: DataBase for Benchmarks?

Benchmarks are fleeting things. You mention the thread from 2007; how many of those messages are relevant in 2020? In 2007, a 4-core CPU was fairly new tech; today, it is base level. And if you do enough searching around, you'll find that handbrake used to have some CUDA code in it, but it was remov...

Re: Saving defaults for Video, Audio and Subtitles

Wrong work flow, if you're trying to do this efficiently. Grab MakeMKV, and rip all the disks. You can use expert mode to pre-name episode files the way you want them. Then you can use the Command Line Interface to make a batch file to process the MKVs all the same way, and let it churn alone. Note:...

Re: Handbreak not reading disks from laptop dvd drive or from external Blu-ray drive.

The site you link to is selling a BD ripper, which they'll hope you will buy after beating your head against a convenient wall while attempting to accomplish the very difficult. And it says at the bottom: Like what is said above, HandBrake cannot rip copy-protected Blu-rays and DVDs . If you have to...

Re: Handbreak not reading disks from laptop dvd drive or from external Blu-ray drive.

Handbrake is not a disk ripper.

MakeMKV and AnyDVD are disk rippers that produce output compatible with handbrake.

Re: Convert .mov files

You might give the CURRENT version a try; there are some fixes for recognizing damaged files.

As for "won't respond", have you tried asking handbrake to open the file, rather than using "dragon droppings" mode? It could be as simple as handbrake doesn't have access to the file when you drop it.

The beginning time stamp on your SRT file is essentially before the start of the video. You need to adjust it to be at least zero with a positive duration.

Try turning off Comb Detect. That forces the decomb/deinterlace to be applied to ALL frames, not just those that are obvious to the filter.

[10:27:26] base preset: Fast 1080p30
This preset limits video to 1920x1080, so a 1080x1920 video would be limited to 1080x1080.

You need to use a preset (or create one) that does not have the video dimensions pre-defined.

Re: Preset feedback

If you're dealing with a laptop, your better bet may be to accept the compromises of the QSV hardware, in terms of larger file sizes for the same quality. The QSV encoder will keep the temps much lower, as the CPU isn't as heavily loaded.

Re: NVEnc temporal-aq=1 not recognized

From what I'm reading, temporal-aq was an h264-only option added in generation 3 of the NVenc engine; I do not see it being available for h265. That would explain the line about "encavcodecInit: Unknown avcodec option temporal-aq".

Does it work if you switch to nvenc_h264?

In the full log, which you still haven't provided, there is information on the parameters recognized and passed to the encoder. And about installed hardware and drivers. Re: Low-loss bulk conversion of MV4 files to MP4 files

Strange that the Samsung doesn't like the file extension m4v; my Samsungs would only load them across the network if they had the m4v extension. Really old Samsungs would only play MKV files if they had the extension AVI. MP4 == M4V. As rollin_eng says, use rename. If you don't want Explorer to comp...

But you do not have to encode the whole file to find out if the settings work - Select a section that has fairly complicated video and at least one subtitle, encode just that section with different settings. Compare the results. Which look best?

Re: Removing motion artifacts

Comb detection to OFF makes handbrake apply the de-interlace on every frame, not just those it looks like there is interlacing. But, if you then turn deinterlace off, that kind of defeats the purpose. Part of the issue with motion in interlaced frames is that objects are in one place during even sca...
