You need to join them before trying to use handbrake, because handbrake does not have a "splice" functionality.

Re: 1080p to 720p results in much lager filesize

No, you don't have to determine the source's original RF, because it's irrelevant; the "damage" to your source (lossy encoding) is already done. When you are encoding with handbrake, the first thing done is to decompress the source. It's now "full size" again, just with a lot of missing detail resul...

DJQuad, the normal "from the disk" size of Last Jedi is 41GB, so your "original" version has been highly compressed already.

If you are trying to write to the same directory the files exist in, that warning is preventing you from overwriting the source.

Make sure your destination directory is DIFFERENT from the source directory.

Re: GOPRO HEVC 2.7k 120 Frames EXPORT PROBLEMS

Does your playback system support high frame rates?

I have monitors that have no issue at 30fps, but going over that pushes past the limit on its HDMI interface. 1080p isn't an issue; anything over that causes frame tearing.

Which screen are you looking at?

Different tabs have different things on them, and some are VERY busy already.

Re: Adding multiple files at once

If you selected "Open folder", you can add everything that is over your minimum length. If you're asking about doing this from the command line, that would involve a shell script to feed the command line interface (CLI) program. There are example shell scripts scattered in the CLI section, https://f...

Re: subtitle gibberish

What is the actual command line you're using for this source?

I have not worked much with closed captions, because they're rare in what I rip and encode. Not to mention they would normally be in the wrong language... I can't read Japanese yet. ;)

Re: Virus Detected In HandBrake Nightly Build.

Antivirus detection schemes are always "best guess" in nature. I have DOS executables I wrote in the 1990's that are sometimes detected as containing dangerous trojans that weren't even written until 2014. My standard recommendation is to submit the executable to your preferred AV vendor for review....

Re: Converting files by output size?

You cannot reliably determine the output size without scanning the source. This is why bit-rate limited encodes do two passes. When you are constrained to a particular size, you can use a bit rate calculator (there are a lot of them on internet) to convert the length (time) of the video and your des...

Re: subtitle gibberish

The log you posted finds one Closed Caption stream. Your settings are to search for a "foreign audio" caption stream and burn it in, and to pass through the first subtitle track. The scan found no suitable track to burn in, due to how "foreign audio" subtitle tracks are defined, so you just got the ...

Re: Can someone talk me through doing more than one file

The problem is that computers are NOT as smart as people think they are. Since you can only have one file with a particular file name in your source directory, the result of the {source} tag should be unique on output, unless you are trying to add from multiple directories, where the source name is ...

Re: Using Handbrake 0.10.5.0 64bit

How much you can reduce size is entirely depending upon your source and YOUR judgement of "no degradation". All forms of compression that are not lossless involve some degradation of video/audio, including the compression that was done to create your source. Some sources are easy to compress - anima...

Re: Can someone talk me through doing more than one file

You need to do some tweaking in Preferences->Output files, Automatic File Naming. If "Automatically name output files" is not checked, or the "File Format" box has nothing in it, batch add will give the issue you are experiencing.

The link s55 gave explains what's available.

Re: Setting default audio track and subtitle in Handbrake - should be simple, right?

If you've chosen a preferred language in VLC, it will (generally) take the first audio and first subtitle track in that language as default, regardless of flags. I haven't used MPC, so I cannot comment on how it deals with languages and flags. The hardware-based players I've owned always select "fir...

Also, you should try this with v1.1.0, to see if it is something that was fixed since 1.0.7 was released.

Re: 1080p to 720p results in much lager filesize

You are starting with a compressed source, which is then decompressed, resized, and compressed again. Depending on how aggressively the original was compressed, the output size could be smaller or larger. If "2015.MP4" refers to The Force Awakens, the RF=20 compressed version of that is about 5.2GB,...

Re: artefact

Handbrake is a video encoder, not a DRM-breaker.

Attempting to be a DRM-breaker would take far more time than we want the handbrake developers wasting, especially when there are people who specialize in that sort of thing (makemkv, anydvd, etc.).

Yeah, you aren't removing the encryption on the video, which is why the video is "bad". Handbrake does not include anything to deal with encrypted video sources.
