Re: How to prevent HB to run out of memory?

Thanks guys. I spend some time to test the x264 Preset = medium. Successfully encoded video. I also found it was possible to encode successfully up to x264 Preset = Slower. Any higher (slower) setting made HB to reach maximum amount of RAM. I still wonder - and I probably would not be able to see it...

Progress bar that reveal comression

Hi. Since HB is used to compress video files, I would love it if a progress bar would show the compression efficiency, just like the progress bar in Winrar. Main bar color (light gray in Winrar) would represent size of input file while overlay bar color would represent output size. http://i39.tinypi...

Re: Does more CPU cores make HB use more RAM?

You know what feature I think have been great? To let HB monitoring it's amount of used memory, and when it reaches close to the limit of avaiable RAM, HB adjust the rc-lookahead and no-mbtree to use less RAM :D

Re: Does more CPU cores make HB use more RAM?

Hi. Thanks for answering.

I'm currently using 32 bit, but I'm planning to upgrade OS to 64 bit Windows 7. However, the computer have "only" 4 Gb ram, so I'm concern that I need to upgrade the ram as well in order to being able to convert the video clips I've recorded.

Does more CPU cores make HB use more RAM?

Hi. Simple question, but I feel the need to know this. Will Handbrake use more ram if the number of CPU cores increases? Would an CPU upgrade from dual core to quad-core make Handbrake use twice as much RAM. I have a computer with 4 cores, and 4 Gb RAM. I sometimes experience that HB get out of RAM....

Re: Out of memory

Thanks folks.

The rc-lookahead=20 setting realy seems to make HB finnish the job without running out of memory.
I was using x264 preset=Normal, but I'm running a test now where I change this to Placebo.

[Invalid] Out of memory

Hi. In this particular case, I set x264 Tune = Grain. The original file is captured by a Panasonic HC-X920 recorder. The original file is 250MB so uploading it would take forever. However if you guys really need the source file I can try to upload it on rapidshare. I add a text in the post that I go...

Smooth transitions (dark sky) becomes pixelated

Hi. I've got some recordings (full HD) where the the after dawn sky is in the background. After converting the video file to MP4 (RF = 22-25, x264 preset = placebo, filters = none) I've noticed that the background (dark blue fades into pitch black) turning from a nice looking smooth transition to a ...

[svn5747] HandBrakeCLI.exe has encountered a problem. . .

Hi. I do not experience similar errors with older versions of Handbrake. I encountered this bug when trying to convert some video files. I've managed to get most of the contents of the error message details: AppName: handbrakecli.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: handbrakecli.exe ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: ...

When running the latest nightly build, I got an error message saying this is not a valid win32 program file. I was downloading and installing from this locaton: http://download.handbrake.fr/nightly/HandBrake-svn5675_x86_64-Win_GUI.exe I'm currently using Windows XP sp3, 32 bit. [edit] Ok, I just dow...

Re: Resize/Scale Filter in Handbrake

<...snip...> For the rest of us, the precious few who have a legitimate use for such a feature, surely we are intelligent enough to spend a few minutes learning to do it in the Handbrake CLI, or better yet, in a nonlinear editor, which is better suited for this kind of thing anyway. In any case, it...

[Fixed] Win: Unknown error occurs when pause and then start

Windows XP SP3 Handbrake version 0.9.9.5470 - 32 bit While in queue list. I stopped encoding and then started it again. I got the error message below when I clicked the start button to continue. Handbrake failed to create a log file for the video file that was running at the time I clicked the pause...

Re: [solved] Encoding causes unexpected shut down of Windows

I do all the time. So, what I've done is put a shortcut on my desktop to cancel the shutdown. Works great. (of course, it only works if you are sitting in front of your computer when the shutdown warning is displayed.) Very anoying when somebody say it without further explanation. However, most thi...

Preserve time stamp

Hi Would be very nice if this feature existed. I have a lot of private videoclips that I'm encoding to MP4/x264 and they all loses the time stamp for when they was recorded. Workaround: Install sktimestamp and manually set timestamp. But that is not an optimal way to do it because it's a lot of manu...

Re: Resize/Scale Filter in Handbrake

I suppport this feature request, mainly because I sit here with some recordings that has wrong height/width factor and I need to make the picture wider so that the video looks ok. If it's never supposed to be implemented, it's ok as I have installed other programs that can do the job as well. Still,...

Re: More accurate time remaining indication when encoding

Ok, I buy that argument that it's impossible to calculate duration at any point.

But what about this crazy idea: Make a bar similar to the "current speed" of the Downthemall extension to Firefox.

Re: Encoding causes unexpected shut down of Windows

Hi. I've not overclocked the computer at all. Any handbrake length session (even just a couple of seconds) makes Windows to shut down. Repeating earlier stated: The shutdown trigger event always occurs when the Handbrake session ends. I've had Handbrake sessions lasting for an hour, and in the very ...

Re: Encoding causes unexpected shut down of Windows

I now have tried to encode a video clip in Windows safe mode. And guess what? Handbrake still causes Windows to shut down. Even in safe mode, I didn't expect that, honestly. Only thing is - it cleans off Avast or any installed driver from the suspect list. Now I don't know what to look for. This hap...

Re: More accurate time remaining indication when encoding

Hi. I wish I could answer, but I do not have enough technical insight to came up with an apropriate idea. I didn't know that the start of a video sequense is a spechial part that cannot be used to computate a end time. Maybe just skip the calculation (insert "--.--.--") until the video sequense is e...
