Re: Opinion/Information on VHS AVI (DV) capture to MP4

Thanks to both of you. I'll play around with the nlmeans filter in HB. I have NeatVideo as a Vegas plugin, but that is incredibly slow, and from my knowledge would add another step (intermediate file). MusicVid: I like your idea about the DVD recorder. I hadn't thought about them for years. Back the...

Re: Opinion/Information on VHS AVI (DV) capture to MP4

Woodstock: Excellent observation. I thought that might be the case as I could see a lot of "detail" including noise. The AVI/DV capture for 2 hours of program was 20GB ! If you are speaking of a Handbrake filter, can you suggest one to experiment with ?

Opinion/Information on VHS AVI (DV) capture to MP4

Hi Handbrake has worked flawlessly for me in doing some transfers from VHS to MP4. My workflow is to capture the VHS programs using Vegas Video Capture via DV camera firewire as DV AVI's. Probably a bit outdated but it works. My question is this: When encoding the exact same program: Captured from a...

Re: Video Preview button gone/missing ? Windows GUI nightly

Thanks everyone for the help. Just to clarify for future users, you have to restart Handbrake after checking the "Enable Static Preview" box. Obvious for most of the seasoned users, but for some reason didn't occur to me after multiple re-installs. Duh.

Re: DVD scan shows duplicate titles

Thanks TedJ for the link. Also to the author. My fault for not reading it thoroughly and figuring it out with VLC. One question: If there are VOB's in the TS folder for each episode (no breaks) is it reasonable to simply point Handbrake to convert those ? I had heard that this isn't advisable becaus...

Thanks for the reply. Simple, effective use of the English language. Perhaps the log did help though with the version number, display size and other system details.

Video Preview button gone/missing ? Windows GUI nightly

Windows GUI I think I've gone mad. On my last nightly installations, there was a video preview button located just below the "Size" section in the "Picture" tab window. You''d just click it and it would show the video (or a portion of it). After installing another newer nightly i...

DVD scan shows duplicate titles

After using Handbrake to source scan a DVD, Handbrake shows that there are 16 titles when there are only 7. Apparently, 5 are duplicated multiple times...randomly. While I can guess which titles are the real ones to encode, is there an easier way ? Also, would it be a bad idea to just open the VOB f...

New feature(s) on the nightly beta: which to choose

I noticed that there is the option of decomb or deinterlace with several methods of deinterlace. For instance: Bob

In general, when using an interlaced source, is it still preferred to use "Decomb" over "Deinterlace" ?

strict vs none display aspect ratio / Quality?

(somewhat related to my previous post, here: https://forum.handbrake.fr/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=29198 Could someone explain to me what's going on with these aspect ratios ? I captured some video using Sony Vegas Source: 8mm tape Captured: 720x480 DV AVI. MediaInfo reports it as 720x480 with a DAR of...

Re: 8mm tapes to Handbrake

Thanks a bunch musicvid. Glad you're around here and on the "other" forums. Do you ever rest ? Oh BTW. I see if set to strict anamorphic 720x480 @ 1.33 for a 640x480 But selecting "None" gets: 720x480 1.33 and ticking "Keep aspect ratio" then shows 720x544 Could you exp...

8mm tapes to Handbrake

I'm planning on transferring some 8mm video tapes to Handbrake using Vegas Video to capture them as DV AVI files (see specs below). Then I'll convert the DV files using HB. These files will then be played back on a computer using VLC or streamed to a television via a media box (like a WD) hooked to ...

Handbrake, process and speed: General Question

No particular type of file or setup. I noticed that after starting a encoding, Handbrake processes/converts the file. After indicating 100%, Handbrake continues to do something. I'm going to assume that it's writing data. This Windows XP 32 bit computer has two hard drives, one dedicated for the OS ...

Re: mp4 specs for a widescreen tv with usb

Thanks Ted, I appreciate your comments around this forum. Seems I'll be better off streaming into the TV, rather than using USB memory.

FYI for anyone interested, specific to the Sony EX700 series

mp4 specs for a widescreen tv with usb

I have a Sony TV that can handle this format: MPEG-4 Visual (MPEG-4 Part 2)

Now, does that include the h.264 main profile and at what level ?

Re: Q for musicvid and the group: custom presets

That's great and I'll give it a try. I think there was one other that you had posted (something to do with archive or maybe streaming box)-----that I was using for my Popcorn Hour A210 box. But, this is a great start. BTW It's good to see you over here helping out.

Thanks, mixer

Q for musicvid and the group: custom presets

musicvid:

Awhile ago I believe you posted some great functional custom Handbrake presets that you'd tweaked, over on the Vegas forums----maybe a year ago or more. Do you have those to share still ? (Perhaps they won't work since I believe they were for the 9.5 version).

Nightly Builds

The development team here certainly works hard tweaking and adding new features to Handbrake. With all the changes/Nightly builds, is it always best to choose the latest one (I have several older nightly versions saved) ? In other words, is there necessarily a more stable Nightly build if I've saved...

Re: Kirara

Boy there's got to be almost every option for the h.264 core + others via ffmpeg in the GUI. I do like the presets, but aren't familiar with half of them. Normal (Default) mp4/h.264/aac decoding is pretty fast. Nero audio is optional as an added codec.

Re: Kirara

Neither had I. I found it on a obscure forum while reading about Handbrake. It's an program similar to Handbrake, probably using much of the same open source. I've been trying it out and it has the ffmpeg core as well as a ton of options. It's sort of like a simple GUI for the command line(s). There...

Re: Convert mpeg to avi xvid for dvd player

Correct you are and I stand corrected.

I use them interchangeable since Blu Ray Players will play most DVD formats. I was referring mainly to the media format (disc)

Q and OT. Why then would anyone even consider a simple DVD player unless it's a cost thing ? Makes no sense to me.

Re: Convert mpeg to avi xvid for dvd player

Huh ? The one posted above plays back Xvid real nice. In fact several others do the same. What's really cool, is they playback from a DVD, CD, USB, or HD as a file source. Plus DNLA using a server. What's really going on here is that the DVD companies are finally seeing this as a market that the str...
