There were 3 movies on the disc and I ripped all of them. I haven't checked the other 2 yet to see if the ratio was right. I don't think there was anything else on there.

Ok...I'm not sure how to use Handbrake to do that? Do you mean use the dvd in the computer as the source and do it directly from the disc?

Ok..here is the scan log for the dvd. When I put the dvd in my dvd player it is widescreen ratio on my tv and looks normal. I ripped the dvd with makemkv and then used Handbrake to create a file to play on my Roku (using Plex). But even before I use Handbrake the file is not expanding left to right ...

I will have to get back to you guys when I have more time. I can tell you I have a professionally edited version that purchased back when the movie first came out. I will get you a scan log when I have time.

So, I am not very techinical and not sure I follow. But are you saying that if I encode it like I have been even though Plex says 720 I will be seeing the OAR and resolution as if I watched the disc?

Oh, what does that mean? Is that the way the disc is?

I just noticed that Plex lists it has 720 instead of 1080 and I've never had that happen before.

I ripped Bridge on the River Kwai (blu) and then convereted in to mp4 in Handbrake but it converts to 720 instead of 1080. I use the "blu ray" preset. All my other blu rays worked fine and came out 1080. I don't know what to do differently to fix the problem. I am running Handbrake on Wido...

Ok...I feel stupid but I just discovered that the mkv file I created of Battle of Britain using Makemkv didn't "rip" the foreign audio subtitles. Not sure how to get it to but I guess I will work on that. Maybe I don't have a Handbrake issue at all.

Ok...I read the article you mentioned. So, that seems like a lot of work to get soft subtitles but I may try when I have time or I may just do hard ones on the dvds that I really need them on (mostly British dvds, of which I just have a few)

Some subtitle types can't be put in an MP4 file. When you ask it to, they're burned in. Logs tell us what you tried to do. Why wouldn't they be useful when you're asking what went wrong? Is there a way for me to tell what subtitle types? I wasn't trying a particular dvd at this time. Just giving a ...
