Re: Building HandBrake

Thanks, s55. That's basically what I did. Used the base image for the distro recommended in your build instructions, added the required packages. Worked like a charm.

Yeah, WSL would be nice, but the rig I use for transcoding is still on 7. Someday...

Building HandBrake

Does anyone have or know of a Docker container already setup to build HandBrake for Windows (both CLI & GUI)?

HandBrake Crashes

Description of problem or question: I am trying to transcode an old 1940's serial. Each episode is in 4 chapters of one title. When I try to transcode episodes in chapters 9 and above, HandBrake crashes. Earlier ones transcode fine. The Windows GUI version does not crash transcoding these. Steps to...

Minor Bug

Description of problem or question: This is just a minor display issue I've noticed for awhile. When you open a Blu-ray, the selected item in the "Title" drop-down will have the title number and the playlist number run together (no space). As soon as you open the drop-down, HandBrake will add a spa...

Re: Why has the advanced tab been removed completely?

I know it's a profile. Sorry if I my response was ambiguous. As for the preset, I use "slower." (for tuning, I typically use "film.")

Re: Why has the advanced tab been removed completely?

No, I realize they are different. I do using the encoder presets and limits (I use high 4.1). Do the HB presets not "tweak" these with the more advanced options? I thought they did. If they don't, awesome.

Re: Why has the advanced tab been removed completely?

I already have a tool that will parse a disc's info and builds a script to have HB do the encoding. I just can't use presets because a lot of things aren't "overrideable" (I know that's not a word), like track-specifics. And I can't put the tracks I want in the presets because, like I said, the poss...

Configure the audio/subtitle defaults as you want them and save it in a preset.
The possibilities are too varied to do that for every case.

Re: Why has the advanced tab been removed completely?

I've always liked the presets because I don't know jack sh*t about A/V encoding. I've recently stopped using them, though (after the main/high presets went away). I've found that some things defined in the presets (e.g., track selection/forced subtitles) can't be overridden. I'd like to be able to u...

Weird Slowdown Issue

Description of problem or question: I'm having a problem with HandBrake I've never seen before. I have encoded all the episodes of a TV series, and all but one are fine. For one episode, there are these periods where the video seems to go into slow-motion for a split second. The audio is fine. I ha...

Is there a way to quiet or reduce the output of HandBrakeCLI? It appears I can increase the verbosity but I cannot reduce it. e.g. Handbrakecli.exe -v-2.

HandBrakeCLI 1.0.7
Win7x64
Redirect the output to NUL or /dev/null, or whatever the null file is on your OS.

Audio Options and Defaults

I apologize in advance if the documentation already answers this and I missed it. For the audio options that take a comma-separated list of values (i.e., one for each track), such as bitrate, samplerate, mixdown, etc., is there a way to indicate the default behavior for some of them? That is, for so...

Re: Upgrade of MKV collection from H.264 to H.265 possible?

Then there are curmudgeons like me who rip everything over 30 seconds, hand the main feature over to handbrake for encoding, watch the extras, and dispose of them afterward. It's rare that an extra really adds to the story (which is why I bought the movie or series), so why bother? So, I like to ke...

Re: Upgrade of MKV collection from H.264 to H.265 possible?

The point of that sentence was I've seen a lot of weird ways special features are placed on DVDs (Blu-rays seem to be pretty straightforward). Sometimes it took a lot of effect to extract them, and I didn't want to forget how it was done. I've seen special features that only one particular tool seem...

Re: Upgrade of MKV collection from H.264 to H.265 possible?

Thanks for the infos. I don't know if a method like this would work for me. I noticed that the tracks are often at various positions. So I never can tell, which track I would need in advance. Of course storing the job information might make it really easy to just change one setting eg. switch from ...

Re: Upgrade of MKV collection from H.264 to H.265 possible?

Hi everybody, whoever uses software like handbrake knows that it is a really time consuming task to work yourself through your DVD and Bluray shelf and free your content from its possibly mortal remains. I did this for a huge collection in the last years and used the codec h.264 for this task. Know...

Trying to reduce execution time via adding more cores will alway butt up against Amdahl's Law. There will be a point of diminishing returns for any process that isn't fully parallelized.

Scan of Disc Fails with Command Line

Please detail your question or problem in as much detail as possible: When I scan a disc with the command line, HandBrake exits with an error and says there aren't any titles. The Window's tool scans it fine. I've never seen this issue before. Tell us about your environment. What version of HandBra...

Subtitle Language Names

Hi. HandBrake use to dump the ISO 639-2 3-digit codes for the subtitle tracks languages in the scan log. I see that was removed several revisions ago. It still does for the audio tracks, though. I was hope you could add that back in. It made it really easy to parse, much easy than parsing the actual...

It's not a 3rd part app. It's from Microsoft, and it does a lot more than Task Manager.
