Re: V1.41 "Worker process appears to be unresponsive. Terminating..."
+1. My first encode terminated with the "Worker process appears to be unresponsive" error, only completing about half of the encode. My next 2 titles in my queue did not process at all. HandBrake 1.4.2 (2021100300) OS: Microsoft Windows NT 10.0.22000.0 CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700 CPU @...

Re: Does MediaInfo provide enough info to duplicate HB settings?
Thanks, Woodstock. Two minutes after posting, I remembered that HB doesn't support HDR. Which, of course, makes my question moot. But I was curious what people might have to say. I completely understand not having those features in the GUI. No reason to build features for .01% of the userbase. My pr...

Does MediaInfo provide enough info to duplicate HB settings?
Description of problem or question: Does MediaInfo provide enough info in their Encoder Settings to duplicate / create a HB preset? I'm looking to compress my UHD discs for network playback on an nVidia Shield. Looks like a lot of these could be dropped into the Advanced Settings, since I don't see...

Output PAR dimensions don't match Size in Summary
Description of problem or question: When setting a resize from 1920x1080 to 720 x YYY using Loose Anamorphic in the Dimensions tab, the Output size shows 720 x 308 (which is normal for a widescreen movie) but the PAR is showing 36883 x 36900. On the Summary tab, however, it shows the output size as...

Re: i7-10700 vs Ryzen 7 3700x
The video is a consideration - the motherboard I got for my last Ryzen build at the end of May had "on board video", except that was a pass-through of the processor video, just as seen on many Intel boards, but the Ryzen processor that was in the price range I was building for didn't have...

Re: i7-10700 vs Ryzen 7 3700x
It's a toss up, I'd go with Intel due to AMD's various support woes (drivers, BIOS, etc), but it may come down to motherboard tradeoffs if you have strong preferences there. I've never built with AMD before. And since its more or less a toss-up, the Intel set up is cheaper since it doesn't require ...

i7-10700 vs Ryzen 7 3700x
I'm looking to build a new daily desktop where the only real stress will come from Handbrake.
I'm not clear on whether or not the new i7-10700 or the Ryzen 7 3700x would be better, or if its really a toss-up.
Any advice?

Re: Another "why is h265 so slow" posts
RF 18 on slow ended up being slightly more than 28 hours rather than the estimated 19+ at the start of the encode. Output file was 9.9GB, so roughly 20 hours more to save 1.5 GB in file size. Meh. The quality scale isn't the same across different speed presets. Pick your preset first, then find you...

Re: Another "why is h265 so slow" posts
That roughly follows the rules of thumb: - 2x (or 0.5x) the time for each slower (or faster) encoder preset - 6 points on RF to double or halve the size of the video track RF 18 on slow ended up being slightly more than 28 hours rather than the estimated 19+ at the start of the encode. Output file ...

Re: Another "why is h265 so slow" posts
just sharing for anyone who searches these threads..... I tested (or started a test) of Greatest Showman 4k rip, using TrueHD passthru, and turned off deinterlace. Otherwise I kept the h265 10-bit settings as default. Rip was 47.5 GB. CPU is Intel i7-8700 @ 3.20ghz (stock) - RF20 medium took 7 hours...

Re: Another "why is h265 so slow" posts
Best quality at the smallest file sizes was always my goal. If you really mean what you say, you should be using veryslow in both cases. You are 110% right. I need to move the slider over. Its been so long since I played with my presets, I forgot that I still had room to slow down. It wasn't until ...

Re: Another "why is h265 so slow" posts
I don't think changing from "slow" to "medium" is going to make a meaningful difference here. The "medium" x265 preset could be about twice as fast as "slow", sometimes a bit more than that. The x265 "fast" preset should be 3 times faster than "...

Re: Another "why is h265 so slow" posts
For Ubuntu, you should use the "flatpak" distribution, available from the official handbrake downloads. The version that Ubuntu distributes is deliberately crippled by them. Is there a flatpak available for the nightlies? I don't recall seeing one, but I wasn't looking terribly closely. O...

Re: Another "why is h265 so slow" posts
I should add, though, that the first 30 mins of the encode (which took nearly 24 hours) does look outstanding.

Another "why is h265 so slow" posts
Trying to figure out if my CPU is just in over its head for any type of h265 encoding. Was hoping to save some space on my NAS. Testing with a rip of Greatest Showman 4k in an Intel i5-3570 with 16GB of RAM. I'm getting FPS: 000.3 Avg FPS: 000.5 23:09:50 elapsed, 16:13:09 remaining. Should I just wa...

Downmixing from Atmos - maintain Atmos metadata?
Description of problem or question: Recently picked up an Roku Ultra, which can support Atmos, but only with Dolby Digital Plus (E-AC3). When I transcode an Atmos title from TrueHD, I don't see a way to maintain / extract the Atmos metadata to apply to the E-AC3 track. I don't believe (could be wro...

Re: Start with DTS-MA or DTS when Mixing Down to Stereo AAC?
DTS-MA is a DTS track that has information in it to correct the lossy audio back to lossless. In actuality, the two are usually "one track" on a BD, and players that do not understand "MA" just ignore that data, and play the "lossy core". - Indeed it is. I probably sho...

Start with DTS-MA or DTS when Mixing Down to Stereo AAC?
Description of problem or question: When converting my blurays for watching on my tablet, is it better to mix down to stereo from the DTS-MA or should I use the DTS for my source audio? I realized that DTS-MA is superior to DTS, but if its being mixed down to 320kbs stereo AAC, I would guess there'...

The 5 hours wasn't surprising. But out of nowhere, this particular title jumped to 10. I didn't think the film looked particularly grainy when I first looked at it, but I guess I was wrong. http://www.indiewire.com/2017/12/phantom-thread-70mm-screening-grainy-35mm-blow-up-1201910595/ "How will ...

Particularly slow enode
Description of problem or question: I recently switched to encoding with a "slow" setting that has been taking about 5 hours for a movie. I'm not in a particular rush, and any benefit in quality is worth the compromise. But I'm currently running an encode that is set to take 10 hours and ...
