Preserve original resolution or precise aspect ratio
Hey Happy New Year. I have a general question about resolutions and aspect ratios. I have a BD rip from a (legally owned) copy of the new James Bond film. When added to Handbrake, the auto cropping wants to trim the black bars - 138px top and bottom, resulting in a storage size of 1920x804px and an ...

Re: A few queries regarding settings in 1.0.3
A cynical person might think you were trying to be patronising. I didn't ask what the difference between storage and display resolutions is. I was asking about the "Automatic" setting and why it is better and how it differs to Loose mod 2.

Re: A few queries regarding settings in 1.0.3
What exactly is your concern about a slight change in storage resolution? Well, if I knew what a change of storage resolution meant in real terms I might be able to answer. Since there is no information about that, I thought I'd ask. I'll phrase my question differently: why is the new default "...

A few queries regarding settings in 1.0.3
Log: http://pastebin.com/BuUEk12Z I was under the impression that Anamorphic: Loose, Mod 2 was "the best option" but now I see "Automatic" is the default and a note to say that the former may result in a slight difference in storage resolution. What does that mean? Having encoded...

Error when clicking "Browse" when destination folder does not exist
Hi When entering a destination path that does not exist and then clicking "Browse" the following error occurs. This isn't new for 0.10.1.6962 - it's been present for as long as I can remember, but I finally got round to reporting it. Instead of the error, I'd expect the file browser to sti...

Re: Best anamorphic settings to handle this video?
I've just done the same as you: removed the left and right crop and made sure the width was set to 1920. That way it's not rescaling and isn't doing odd things I don't understand
Am I right in thinking that mod 2, 4, 8 or 16 doesn't matter here because both dimensions divide evenly?

Re: Best anamorphic settings to handle this video?
Hey
I notice from another thread you recently encoded the video in question here (Skyfall) did Handbrake want to crop 2px off each side for you? Looks like you used loose anamorphic mod8.

Re: Best anamorphic settings to handle this video?
I'd also appreciate any advice as to what is happening with the storage/display dimensions in this video grab:

Best anamorphic settings to handle this video?
Hey I'm encoding a straight 1920x1080 BD rip, after cropping Handbrake says the storage dimensions will be 1916x800. I usually choose loose anamorphic to handle all encodes, but I noticed some odd behaviour when doing so. Which of these anamorphic setting is best used here? Strict. I think this mean...

Re: Modulus change from 16 to 2 - question
I'm wondering how the videos I've previously encoded with Loose/Mod16 are inferior to Mod2? Is it that mod2 can get closer to the intended aspect ratio? Does it really matter/notice?

Re: Optimise Video Setting
Auto just means you'll get whatever level and profile is required by the settings you use. So, if you use features that are baseline and don't breach level 3.0, you'll get level 3.0 baseline. They are basically their to allow you to restrict the settings to a particular level or profile. I'm yet to...
