Re: Videos freeze playing 5.1 track on apple TV
So i think this is a feature of how I've got my sonos soundbar set up to play stereo. I noticed it on other stereo tracks. I've also now established that its the same issue with handbrake 1.3.3. Back to square one. I seem unable to transcode the DTS HD 5.1 channel track in a way my apple tv is happy...

Re: Videos freeze playing 5.1 track on apple TV
Yeah it's definitely ignoring the DTS passthrough stream and playing the AAC stereo track as if it's 5.1!!??

Re: Videos freeze playing 5.1 track on apple TV
The encode that worked kind-of was the one where i set the 5.1 DTS track to be passthru. I used Media Info to check that file and there are 4 streams there, including a DTS 5.1 stream. So it's there and when i play the video it seems to play a 5.1 soundtrack as i can hear effects and music through r...

Re: Videos freeze playing 5.1 track on apple TV
So i also tried DTS passthru, but then i just get a missing track. I'm checking the files on subler to see what the output is. iso 4 tracks becomes 3, with the missing track skipped and the 2nd track showing as 5.1 and playing as 5.1 but when i look it's only 2 channels, so i think apple tv is just ...

Re: Videos freeze playing 5.1 track on apple TV
Yeah I don’t think that’s right. So it works but it isn’t true 5.1.

Re: Videos freeze playing 5.1 track on apple TV
Thanks... it does seem like some of the tracks are duplicated.
I’ve got a playable version by using Dolby surround as the mix down using AAC as the codec. Not sure the mix sounds quite right though...

PAL Blu-Ray Ripping
Hi everyone In the past I've ripped all my Doctor Who Blu-Rays to mp4 for streaming on Apple TV. UK TV like this is 25fps interlaced to give a 'studio video' look. its important for me to preserve this. I did this effectively using handbrake, and the deinterlace BOB filter. I am now trying to rip so...

Blu-ray rips via mkv
a general question Trying to rip UK Doctor Who Collection blu-rays to HD for streaming to apple tv. All BDs legitimately purchased and for own use. I ripped the discs using mkv, but any advice on optimal settings? My last encodes failed. Originals were PAL standard def broadcasts so just trying to o...

Re: Preserving Dr Who Decomb BOB when combining handbrake rips and other files!
Ok so here's an easier question that might help me if i know the answer.. If i rip a DVD using handbrake using the decomb BOB filter, I'm not technically creating interlaced video am I? although the effect is a more detailed looking picture that emulates the detail of a PAL interlaced video. So what...

Re: Preserving Dr Who Decomb BOB when combining handbrake rips and other files!
Activity log for handbrake if any help. http://pastebin.com/rhdPDPBf whistlerz, thanks - not just that. Its' that the encoded files don't seem compatible perhaps because they have different audio streams. If i sure mpeg stream clip to join them it retains the interlaced footage and the commentary tr...

Preserving Dr Who Decomb BOB when combining handbrake rips and other files!
I'm completely stuck! Hopefully someone will find this interesting enough to help! I'm in the process of ripping my Classic Series Doctor Who DVD collection to iTunes via Handbrake. There are two major challenges to this: 1) Some episodes in a given story have commentary and some don't (Tenth Planet...

Re: PAL DVD to AppleTV
Actually I've tried shunting the same video directly to my tv using media server software/dnla. And it's the same. So probably rules out apple tv as the culprit.

Re: PAL DVD to AppleTV
Thanks for the help. Using a nightly build and setting to deinterlace BOB seems to improve things. Plus I seem to need to set my apple tv to 1080 50hz - not sure why auto doesn't work. Motion still not totally perfect - thinking can detect the odd jump. Any other tips on how to improve on BOB? Thank...

Set to auto. I've experimented with the settings a bit. What should it be, do you think? 50hz?
Thanks..
Thanks..

Re: PAL DVD to AppleTV
Thanks for the reply.
No improvement sadly. I've tried other methods of deinterlacing and the motion is still a bit fuzzy or filmised. Is it perhaps an apple tv playback issue?
Has anyone else ripped uk pal DVDs -of things shot on video, not film, with any success?
Thanks
Chris

Re: PAL DVD to apple TV /
By the way, I get that it needs to be deinterlaced to play on an LCD tv. But the point is the file should retain its video like movement..
Please help ! Do I need to use decomb in a particular way?

PAL DVD to AppleTV
I have really tried to find an answer for this but I still can't get the settings right! I am ripping UK PAL DVDs of uK TV. Therefore they are supposed to look interlaced. Like video, not film.. eg Doctor Who DVDs. I've tried all settings but I can't get rid of the motion issues I'm experiencing. Fa...
