Re: HandBrake 0.9.9 Discussion
Ah yeh, no progress meter any more. Seemd kind of redundant really. Don't really have any objections to adding one back in if there's demand for it I probably miss it more than most... so I am unsure what others may think about it. I am sight challanged, my vision is around 20/800 or worse, uncorre...

Re: HandBrake 0.9.9 Discussion
I'm confused, the status bar is still there. It shows encode progress when you have an encode running. If your not seeing that, can you upload a screenshot to somewhere and provide the link Is it really necessary. Perhaps a better description of the issue will help. In the old version I was using t...

Re: HandBrake 0.9.9 Discussion
I miss the status bar that used to crawl along the bottom of the window, but I suspect it was removed to make more room for other things . What's in it's place? Well, I haven't done a complete inventory... but the new version has bigger window pane already with lots of new information compared to t...

Re: HandBrake 0.9.9 Discussion
I have been using 0.9.9 for about a week now, and I am impressed. Kudos to the folks doing all the work on the development. I am finally back to using 1 version!!! I had been using different versions for DVD and BD... but now, this does both in one package (better than either version I was using bef...

Re: Combining output into one mp4
Sometimes I have had a need to do this also... I had to use an external program to do it (not HB). If there is a way to do it, I would like to know. It is not sufficient to just select the whole DVD (as someone suggested, by selecting the VIDEO_TS Folder). Even if that would work, it is necessary to...

Re: A/V sync milliseconds off when playing HB m4vs on iPad a
Pawnslinger... can you please give me the HandBrake settings that you used for creating your encodes? And did you use .mp4 or.m4v? Well, for the most part, I think I just use the default settings. I use Web optimized. Strict aspect ratio, the default I think. Unless the material is PAL, I use Detel...

Re: Handbrake encodes out of sync in iPad 2 Videos app (nati
I always use 48, HB just seems to use it by default, I don't change it.

Re: Handbrake encodes out of sync in iPad 2 Videos app (nati
As a heavy iPad2 user, I can verify that the device DOES handle either 44.1 or 48 just fine. But I use the iPod plugin to play my videos on the iPad2, not the VIDEO app. I don't know if this makes any difference or not. When I go to play a video on my iPad2, I go thru an app called "GoodPlayer&...

Re: A/V sync milliseconds off when playing HB m4vs on iPad a
I often play my videos on an iPad2 and have no audio sync issues. Using other products, I often had sync issues, but Handbrake actually cleared them up!!
Re: Dubbed?
Don't worry about it. Not that important.
Re: Dubbed?
Are there any sync discontinuities in the log? Not sure how to id "sync discontinuities"? The only thing in the log that metnioned "sync" and seemed wrong was: [18:35:45] sync: got 114944 frames, 114848 expected I do not know if that is serious or not. But it seems odd to me.
Dubbed?
The other day, I was working on a DVD containing a hour long stand-up comedy, it had been filmed in the US and the comedian was a English speaker. I relate all this because the audio sync was off, and after correction upon playback (my WDTV has a correction factor for audio sync), it appeared as if ...

Re: Detelecine is no longer High Profile default
... for all of my NTSC sources... i only have 1 video out of the 50+ videos on my HDD that are able to be detelecined correctly (since many telecined sources have various pattern changes and then some have parts where 5 full frames are telecined and then some have parts where there are no telecine ...

Re: Detelecine is no longer High Profile default
If you're encoding NTSC content (i.e. if it's likely to be telecined) then turn detelecine on. If you're encoding PAL, which isn't, then make sure it's off. Ahhh... okay. I rarely encode PAL... very rarely. 99.5% of my work is NTSC. But some is PAL. I own several DVD sets that are only available in...

Re: Detelecine is no longer High Profile default
Well, it always seemed to drop more frames than necessary for me, resulting in a framerate lower than 24000/1001 fps on many episodes. Sometimes there'd be noticeable stuttering too. I have constant framerate enabled... would that make a difference? Without that, I was having lots of audio sync iss...

Re: Detelecine is no longer High Profile default
Oh man. If only that were the case. NTSC and Detelecine are almost unusable when it comes to older anime DVDs when there's a panning scene. Stuttering video. Enough said. Doesn't work well on Stargate NTSC either. I have used it on several seasons of Stargate SG1... I didn't notice anything. What s...

Re: Large File ISSUE...
That's the problem...I have Large File selected and it's telling me it isn't. I wish I could put up a screen shot. I set up about 10 movies to process in the queue. I've been running "Normal" as I am happy with the quality and speed of the transfer. The only change I make is to select Lar...

Re: What happened to the "Target Size" quality option?
A couple of quick observations: 1. I am very surprised that this thread hasn't been locked yet. It is wearing thin, even for folks like me. 2. The option in HandBrake for Average Bitrate works very well. I tried Vidcoder, but prefer HandBrake, and I use the Constant Quality most of the time, but fal...

Re: What happened to the "Target Size" quality option?
Perhaps they will. But in the case I mentioned before, they didn't. I believe that the case was actually appealled to the FSF and they remained mute, as far as I know. I took a look at Vidcoder, just now, because of all this fuss. It seems a bit odd to use after using HandBrake for a few months. But...

Re: What happened to the "Target Size" quality option?
Here is the problem. With no one to defend the copyright, a work will fall into the public domain. This happened to another program that I use... a chess engine. It was written and released under the GPL. Someone took it and made slight cosmetic modifications, and released a successful commercial c...

Re: What happened to the "Target Size" quality option?
Then the GPL does not apply. You should remove it. In my opinion, the GPL is meaningless in this situation, it was created with the idea that there was someone or some company that held a copyright... and wished to retain the copyright, but distribute the product for the benefit of others. In my op...

Re: What happened to the "Target Size" quality option?
After what I have learned reading thiese messages this morning, I would say that HandBrake is public domain. Did you not understand anything I said. Making HandBrake public domain would require changing the licence. And you can not do that without the permission of all copyright holders period. You...

i need target size Why? @Pawnglinger: so if you go to xkcd.com and read the comics, are you a customer of xkcd? Of course. And I am not "asdaff". Whoever that is. For the record, I never have used any version of HandBrake that had a Target Size. So I am a user that doesn't really understa...

You can believe yourself to be the queen of England if you like. We won't be treating you as such however. So how about you let go of your indignation and accept the terms we offer (basically none ). You are more than welcome to go elsewhere if you don't like them. Are you one of the owner...
