Re: HandBrake 1.1.0 Discussion Thread
The HBQ format was removed. So far, the only users that were using that have noticed it go, where using it in ways it was never intended for and not something we want to support. The HBQ format was a very convenient way to alter the settings of a batch encode. If it was not intended for saving/rest...

Queue import / export
Hi all,
With the current handbrake release, it is no more possible to import a queue.
It was an easy way to "mass modify" some settings with a text editor, for example the quality factor or whatever.
Please allow handbrake GUI to import the json export.
Thanks.

Re: Simple recommendations to pc, please
Use x265 codec as it compresses much better than any other.
Use a one-pass quality target (instead of a 2-pass bitrate target), with RF 20-22, depending on your file size goal.
Compress audio with AAC.
You should get what you want

Re: Codec VP9 and MP4 container
Compared to the mkv container, mp4 is really lame. It doesn't support PGS subtitles, for instance.

Re: Encode size differs based on CPU used
Is it related to the way x264 uses parallelism ?
Is it the same with x265 codec ?

Re: HEVC quality vs speed slider, much trial and error!
Here's a result of a few tests: Alien video track encode quality RF18 very slow 11,53 GB 1,28 fps ***** RF21 slow GRAIN 5,91 GB 6,64 fps **** RF21 fast GRAIN 4,30 GB 20,32 fps **** RF24 slow GRAIN 3,02 GB 7,56 fps * RF20 very slow 2,08 GB 2,52 fps *** It seems that the best tradeoff is the RF21/fast...

Re: HEVC quality vs speed slider, much trial and error!
I've done a few tests, and it seems the grain tuning increases the file size quite a lot. However, it clearly enhance greatly all details. I've reencoded "Alien" with RF21, slow preset, tune grain and your specific deblock parameters. Then again with RF24. At RF21, the result very convinci...

Re: HEVC quality vs speed slider, much trial and error!
To my eyes, the 8mb CRF21 Preset Faster Tune Grain sample looks as good as the 15mb CRF15 Preset Slow sample, and it definitely looks better than all the rest. Hello, this is quite surprising. I usually use HEVC with RF20 at the 'very slow' preset to encode 1080p movies, with a ~1-2 fps throughput....
Re: Nightly
I have no issue compiling the GUI part of handbrake, but I can't compile the libhb.dll, because of python errors: After the ./configure --cross=x86_64-w64-mingw32 --enable-x265 --enable-qsv --enable-hwd --launch-jobs=1 --launch I'm using the right version of mingw (gcc version 4.9.0 20131228 (experi...

Handrake GUI issue
Please describe the problem in as much detail as possible: As soon as I start handbrake windows GUI, when this window has the focus, the mouse is jerky, it blinks, as if there was a huge CPU usage. However, everything still works and I still can encode. What are the steps to reproduce this problem:...

Re: Problem building handbrake due to libx265
Using handbrake on a raspberry pi looks like trying to cut a sequoia with a knife... No ?
Anyway, the error messages looks like missing CPU features. I'd try without x265 if I were you.

[all svn] user presets don't save "x265 preset"
Hi,
I've noticed that the x265 preset is not saved with user presets (slow, very fast ...). H.265 Profile seems to be saved, though.

Re: hevc ready?
I get such results only with full HD videos. With DVD-class movies (PAL 720x576) the video stream size is cut by -15% to -25% only. Nevertheless, I'd like to know why you think such results are not expected, since HEVC target is 4K-video encoding ! I did nothing special to achieve such a result exce...

Re: hevc ready?
Hi, HEVC encoder is still experimental but it works, I use it a lot. I've encoded tens of video, and the video stream size is reduced by -40% to -75% using aggressive settings, over AVC with also aggressive settings. Good video players already support HEVC decoding (especially MPC-HC and VLC) and in...

3D & TrueHD passthrough support
Hi guys,
Are 3D movies supported by handbrake ? If no, are there any plan to support 3D encoding ?
What about Dolby TrueHD passthrough ?

Re: h265 support
OK, so it seems impossible to compare the compression ratio of HEVC and AVC ...!
Anyway, I get files with a quite similar quality and very different sizes. This comparison may not be scientific, but I'm not sure it's absolutely meaningless.
