Re: Can Handbrake rip DVDs to a directory format?

Nope, afraid not. HandBrake isn't a DVD ripper, it's a transcoder. You'd want something like MakeMKV.

Re: Should VLC be installed before Handbrake?

HandBrake does not use VLC. As it stands, there is no official support for copy protected sources in HandBrake. 3rd party software of your choosing is required.

Re: Supression of Low Disk Space warning

Low disk space level is definable in preferences -> Advanced HandBrake already utilises all the Memory it needs. All the processing / buffering is already done in memory. There is no need to stream the entire file into memory. Even slow hard drives are more than fast enough to feed HandBrakes buffer...

VCE is not in 1.1.2. Future release but no eta. Can experiment with it on the nightly builds from the download page.

Re: A problem when upgrading using the silent switch.

I'm not sure but It's getting enough attention that it's higher up on my list.

Fwiw, it might be worth taking the "portable" version (zip package). It might be easier to deploy?

Re: Handbrake won't start

Might want to delete: C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\HandBrake to reset everything. It's likely stale data from a previous version caused the issue

Can you update to 1.1.2, it should correct this particular error, or at least give a better error that points to the real issue.

Re: A problem when upgrading using the silent switch.

The problem with not running the uninstaller is it'll leave behind uninstallers listed on windows that no longer exist.

The MSI installer has been slowly crawling up my todo list as it'll help in a lot of scenarios, + in theory, it should be easier to deploy through Software centre et all.

Re: Can't launch program

@illusive, sorry, Mis-read. I thought you meant a total blank window, not blank error dialog. Blank Window is an unknown. Blank error, try pressing copy and see if the contents of the error are put on the clipboard.

otherwise, try the nightly.

Re: Scaleable Interface?

Windows is actually currently: "Screen Resolution: 1024x768 or better (higher if running in High-DPI Mode, above 96 DPI or 100%)" So, it will fit within this, including the start menu along the bottom (unless it's extended size). So, my guess is this machine is running in a high DPI mode which takes...

Re: Can't launch program

Unfortunately there is no known way to fix this short of re-installing windows currently. It's not something we can reproduce here, so it's probably related to specific hardware or drivers installed on the machine that's causing this. So any details there would be useful. We've had a few reports but...

Re: File larger after compression

You encoded your audio at 160kbit and the source is 32.

Your already at an extreme level of compression so your not going to get much more out of this.

Re: Handbrake CPU usage

Your encoding low resolution content, which won't scale as well so your kinda limited in options here. You could always run a second instance of HandBrake to do a second encode at the same time if your doing multiple.

Re: Cores, cores, and more cores

Yeh, orders of magnitude more data = longer encoders. So, Either buy faster hardware, or use faster settings. You may still find you can adjust the settings to get more speed without a meaningful impact to quality or filesize. Try adjusting the Preset slider on the Video tab, and maybe tweak the qua...

Re: Cores, cores, and more cores

Scaling is near linear to 6 in most reasonable circumstances after which, it can drop off but varies widely depending on source. It doesn't say we only support 6. People have maxed out 16 core systems with HandBrake without issue. AT some point we'll update the paragraph to be a bit clearer since to...

Re: Error: Failed to load GUI presets file

I'm not sure what your question is?

--preset "Very Fast 1080p30" will work without importing gui presets. Since thats what your using + some overrides, I don't understand what you thin the issue is?

Re: Cryptographically sign of movie ?

Technically, i guess you could but it's awkward solution. To be honest, it's much easier just hashing or using something like PGP to sign the full file.

No. The moment you touch the file, the hash changes. You need to generate the hash before you can embed.

System user won't have a presets file, so it is correct that it can't find it. That said, you don't need to do this for built-in presets.

You can't do this through the GUI. You'd need to switch to the command line interface and write a script to batch up a folder of files. There are examples in the CLI section in the forum

Actually, Single Behaviour track with "Auto Passthru" might work

Track Selection Behaviour: All
For Additional Tracks: First

Chosen Language: (Any) or English

Single "Auto Add Tracks" -> Codec: Auto passthru
