Re: When encoding from a DVD/bluray does HB make a back up and encode from that?

Amount of Ram doesn't affect how HandBrake reads a source. The system will move into pagefile if there is insufficient memory.

HandBrake will be reading from the drive although it's probable that it'll be spinning quite slowly as you won't need the full 16x speed.

Re: x86_32 support

Putting out software that has a high probability of crashing (due to out of memory errors) and is no longer tested at all by us, is not respectful to our users. Before we dropped 32bit support, we were getting quite a lot of performance and memory related complaints. Second, The 32bit userbase was t...

Re: View original bitrates of a video file?

You can see from the log, for some files, what the average is. However, this is not a good indicator for choosing bitrate of the output.

Re: x86_32 support

The current versions of HandBrake are not compatible with 32bit systems and this is not something that will change. Support has been permanently removed now.

Windows 7 64bit, is however supported. Windows 8 (needs to be 8.1) to be supported under 64bit.
1.0.7 was the last version to support 32bit.

We've had literally *dozens* of reports of a) No h265 encoder, b) Significantly slower speeds Guess what, Driver updates installed corrected the issue for those users. (Infact, Intel explicitly call out HandBrake in their release notes on more than one occasion going back a few years for various iss...

Re: Upgrading from Version 1.0.7 to 1.2.2 disables intel quick sync

1.2.2 interacts with QuickSync in a slightly different way. It requires up-to-date drivers as there were bugs in earlier Intel drivers. For your CPU, Decomb / filtering will severely bottleneck Quicksync, so what your seeing is expected. Filters are before the encoder in the pipeline. They are CPU b...

Re: NVENC h264 works, but not h265

We are not supporting anything older than Pascal I'm afraid. Your GPU doesn't have the full H.265 capabilities so it's most likely failing because we are initialising with capabilities it doesn't support. We still have an open ticket to implement proper hardware checking on NVEnc so unfortunately th...

Also note, your running older drivers so you'll want to update to the latest from Intel. They had several driver releases with non functional h.265 encoding though the API we are now using.

Re: Handbrake 1.2.2 converts very slow

You need to provide logs for your encode. https://handbrake.fr/docs/en/latest/help/activity-log.html There is no speed difference between 1.2.0 and 1.2.2. Differences would come from different settings and sources which could account for over 24 hours worth of encode time difference in some instance...

Re: Windows freezes ONLY when I'm using Handbrake?

If Windows is freezing, then you either have a Hardware or Kernel level issue (typically bad drivers, if not hardware). Since HandBrake runs in user-space, any crash that occurs would be recoverable by the app or operating system, not resulting in a system freeze. As far as hardware, memtest86 if yo...

They are raw YUV420 files (that get removed by the app when it's done with them.

You'd need to convert to JPG with other software. It's not something HandBrake will do for you.

Re: Major changes or optimizations

There are no major optimisations in HandBrake that would cause this. That therefor leaves the most likely cause being change of settings. We'd need to see logs for both to confirm the differences for you. Note, default settings do change. Presets will not always import correctly into newer versions ...

If your preset file gets corrupted or the system has an issue that prevents HandBrake reading the file, it'll recover by resetting the file. It will attempt to archive the old file first. See C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\HandBrake and look for a presets.json.xxxx You could try replacing prese...
