With upcoming changes to data protection and privacy laws in Europe coming into effect soon, we thought this would be a good time to remind everyone that we do have a privacy policy.
This applies to all users and visitors world-wide.

We have made a few changes to the language to make it clearer in relation to this new regulation but fundamentally, the terms and your rights are unchanged.

Re: All available versions crash on encode

Would it not be better to fix your system, than work around it by limiting CPU cores? The only known issue with Ryzen based machines, is some BIOS revisions from some board manufacturers are causing general system instability under load. Worth checking. Otherwise, we have users on these parts runnin...

Re: HandBrake 1.1.1 Release Discussion.

There are no significant performance differences between the two versions if you use the same settings / source / hardware.

Please start a thread in the relevant support forum, and post an activity log for before / after and we can point out the difference.

Re: audio problem

HandBrake can't add external audio tracks to existing video files. It has to be a track in the source video.

Re: Automatic croping broken in the latest nightly

It seems unlikely to be anything wrong with auto-crop here. Looks like it's working fine for most titles. However, there are some decoder notices that are different for some titles. So there may be some noise or problematic frames showing up that's throwing the detection off. Can you open up the pre...

Re: HandBrake 1.1.1 Release Discussion.

32bit support was dropped with 1.1.0. Three main reasons: 1. We haven't been testing the 32bit build for nearly 2 years now so the build was becoming less stable with time since we weren't fixing issues that only crop up under 32bit. 2. Memory limitations of 32bit builds are becoming more of an issu...

Re: Handbrake moves to FFmpeg: improve AAC audio quality?

Doesn't require any programming. Just need to compile libhb (hb.dll) The code to support it exists in the code base. We just can't legally distribute it in binary form. So, if you want it, you basically have to compile what would be classes as a "nonfree" (as in, not GPL compatible) build yourself. ...

First, clear C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\HandBrake This will reset HandBrake, user presets and queue back to defaults. (Maybe create a backup first if you've changed anything) If that fails, run the .NET repair tool https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=30135 see if it com...

Re: Handbrake moves to FFmpeg: improve AAC audio quality?

FDK coming back to a HandBrake release is not an option that's on the table.

Yes, we use ffmpeg 4. in the nightlies.

Re: Handbrake moves to FFmpeg: improve AAC audio quality?

The ffmpeg AAC encoder does do a better job than that of libav. It's not perfect and still has quirks though. For the most part it's fine to use. Given your source above, I'd be inclined to just use AAC passthru rather than re-encoding. I Don't know if anyone is contributing improvements to the ffmp...

Re: HandBrake resulting files are larger than original file

Your starting off with low quality video to begin with. Your trying to encode to a higher quality than the source.

So, in this instance, change the Qualuty slider to RF 24 or higher to see if you can further reduce the filesize.

Re: Building Nightly HandBrake GUI with VS 2017

Looks like VS didn't run a NuGet Restore before trying to build.

You can disable the AppX project, it's not needed. (It needs hb.dll as does the HandBrakeWPF project in the bin/* dir)

Re: How to stop meta data?

What do you mean by "Owner and Computer metadata."? Edit: Ah, you mean the file metadata, not container metadata. That's Windows that does this, not HandBrake. As far as I know there is no way to prevent it. That's why most your files will have this, regardless of whether they came from HandBrake or...

Now turn off QSV decode in preferences. It can only be used in single GPU systems or if the iGPU is actively in use with a monitor attached.

Re: A problem when upgrading using the silent switch.

Funny, I noticed the other day another issue with the Execwait fix. Due to the way NSIS works, there may not actually be any way to cleanly fix this issue :( Basically, when you run the uninstaller, it copies itself to a temp folder then executes a second process. So execwait returns before that 2nd...

Re: Different AAC encoders

Core Audio is one of the best encoders out there. FDK is a close if not equal second followed by ffmpeg 4.0 (It's better than libav but still has some issues).

Core Audio's the only choice on mac. No sense in offering any others.
