Re: Handbrake crashes shortly into encoding

Looks like it may be a structural issue with the source. If you export to MKV with MakeMKV, it'll strip all the structure so it'll avoid the problem.

This is the expected behaviour. I'm afraid you'll have to post rename the files in this instance.

Re: Problems opening UHD Folder

UHD structure is not supported. You'd need to convert to another container first. I.e use MakeMKV.

HandBrake does not use or interact with VLC so it makes no difference.

Re: FCPX > handbrake > separate videos per chapters?

While it's technically possible, it's tedious to do with HandBrake as it's not a use-case that's well supported in automation. You basically have add to queue, each chpater set, manually. So on the source row on the GUI, you'll see chapters x through y. So 1 to 1, add, 2 to 2 add etc. Failing that, ...

Go pick ffmpeg violater of choice. Quite a few of them libel us but that's not surprising. Most of them are from parts of the world with lax copyright/trademark laws. Frankly, given how little traffic the news page gets, it's hardly worth having. The forum announcement section get's more traffic and...

-v 0 is the lowest level. Short of that, pipe the output to a file.

Re: Hyper-threading: is it worth it?

This pointer to anandtech seems to suggest hyperthreading gain is only 30% faster, not 2x faster That's about right and not necessarily even guaranteed at that. Put it this way, unless your going to jump 3~4 generations of processors at the same time, or are getting an i7 for free, I wouldn't bother.

You'd have to alter the source code and compile yourself.

We don't currently support translation expect on the Linux UI, It may come in a future release but that'll be some ways off.

Re: Hardware encoding Intel QSV seems to be broken

The encoder is hardware. The rest of the pipeline is not so high cpu usage is still expected. Decode, filters, handbrakes av pipeline, audio encoding, all require cpu time.

Given the low cpu core clock it’s probably maxed out on your machine.

m4v IS mp4. M4v extension is required for QuickTime to play files with certain features. Since it's universally compatible, it's fine to use always.

Re: AAC worse on high bitrate

libav aac is not a good encoder. Higher bitrates, can, in some instances reduce quality. Sometimes substantially if the encoder can't hit the target bitrate. Stay 256kbit and below and it's usually ok

Probably won't help. The windows version didn't get reliable import until the 1.0 series.

You'll have to create a new preset.

Re: H.264(intel QSV) codec performance is very low on handbrake version 1.0.7

It's not a bug in the log. The two paths, decode and encode are fully separate in 1.0.7. A later release will offer zero-copy mode again (under certain conditions as per 0.10.5) that will offer a small performance boost.

Either way, this is expected results.

Re: Handbrake using < 55% of my dual CPU System for h.254

@rollin_eng -> not appropriate. @Andre -> Scaling to 16 cores with only 720p content is probably pushing it a little. Your T7600 is only 2 cores so scaling is a non-issue. While turning decomb off will improve performance a little bit, it is a threaded filter and if it's not actually de-interlacing ...

Can you post the full log and what CPU's your using

I'm guessing we are dealing with old Core2 generation parts. You may well be maxing out memory bandwidth or some other resource. Those CPU's are weak for encoding.

Re: Need help locating Russian in the list!

There isn't going to be a log Rollin. This is a pre-log problem.

Also, it should just be called "Russian" in the language list. If it's really not there, there might be a bug.
