With upcoming changes to data protection and privacy laws in Europe coming into effect soon, we thought this would be a good time to remind everyone that we do have a privacy policy.
This applies to all users and visitors world-wide.

We have made a few changes to the language to make it clearer in relation to this new regulation but fundamentally, the terms and your rights are unchanged.

Re: FFMpeg already has support for DNxHR, why handbrake not yet?

HandBrake does not currently use ffmpeg. It may do for version 1.2 which would bring with it support for this.

Re: Accessibility Statement

We don't do anything explicit for accessibility (i.e any proprietary API's / assistive devices etc). We do follow vendor operating system standards (to the most part) which allows for some accessibility tools and devices to operate. We do have a very small number of users utilising screen readers fo...

Re: Encoding old DVD - problem!

HandBrake isn't a DVD ripper and your encountering CSS copy protection there.

Third party tools (such as MakeMKV) are required to remove copy protection before HandBrake will encode correctly.

Re: [indeo3 @ 0x80dd4a100] Invalid picture dimensions: 0 x 0! decavcodecvWork: avcodec_open failed

Looks like either the file has corrupt/invalid header information, Or there is a decoder bug in libav. You might try running the file through a stream repair first. It looks like libav is trying to use the indeo3 decoder which seems wrong. If stream repair doesn't work, I'm afraid there is no workar...

Re: How to apply LUTs to video?

I'm afraid this isn't supported.
HandBrake isn't a front-end to ffmpeg CLI so you can't use the full set of ffmpeg filters with it.

Can you run an encode with normal H.264 (x264) for 10 seconds (Just start then stop) and provide the log for that as it'll tell us the setup on your system.

Re: Bizarre request - move letterbox black bars to bottom

That's the last thing you want to do. It also doesn't maintain quality of the bluray doing that. H.264 is lossy, not lossless compression. Every time you run it, you lose some quality. Your best bet is to accept quality loss and use CRF of around 20~21 (most people won't be able to tell the differen...

Re: Bizarre request - move letterbox black bars to bottom

HandBrake doesn't do pure bluray transfers. It's going to re-encode the content always. There is no passthru support.

Framerates are always peak, so it doesn't matter.

Looks like you have a corrupted install of .NET Framework.

System.Deployment.dll appears to be missing.

You might want to run the .NET repair tool

Well, that's really up to you whether you care enough to track down what's up. It doesn't bother me an awful lot either way. All I'm saying, is it's not expected or seen in the wild behaviour so something is wrong.

Re: Handbrake is unexpectedly slow on Server 2008 R2

There has been plenty of benchmarks done over the years that show no discernible difference between any operating system: Mac, Windows, Windows Server or Linux.

The only time we've seen an issue was when there was an actual bug in the Linux Kernel causing problems.

Re: Handbrake is unexpectedly slow on Server 2008 R2

Your comparison above is completely invalid. 1. Your running Different versions of HandBrake (1.0.7 vs 1.1.0) 2. Your running a 32bit version of HandBrake on 1 machine, and 64bit on the other. (That's about 10% difference) 2. One of your machines is only showing up as 4 vs 8 cores, so in all likely ...

Re: AV1 support ?

Shortly, no. Longer term, Yes. AV1 Spec is released but it can take a year or two before a good encoder becomes available that doesn't have encode times that are in the months. I think we were around 3.5 years wait for VP9 and even now (5+ years on), most folks still today find it intolerably slow a...

Re: Trimmed .mov showing some deleted frames when converted

Firstly, Logs are stored to disk, so no need to re-encode.
Second, I'd want to see exactly what HandBrake / The decoders did and any errors/warnigns it produced before making any recommendations. Heck,t here could even be a bug in the decoder here. I don't know.

This is not currently supported I'm afraid. We have a 12bit encoder, but no decoder support yet.

This should come when we switch to ffmpeg.

Doesn't mean they should be used. These are very different encoders and won't behave the same when you use the same setting (where supported). There really is very little reason to use advanced options with either encoder. More often than not, we see folks messing with the x264 options, getting it w...
