Re: how make handbrake jail for freenas 11.1

FreeNas isn't a supported platform, so you'd need to compile from source. The instructions are in our documentation to do this for FreeBSD which is probably the closest match to a FreeNas OS.

Re: See just segment defined by Range settings

I'm afraid this isn't possible with HandBrake. If your looking for a good cutting tool you really need to be looking at other tools.

Re: Minimum hardware required for AMD VCE option?

1.1.2 doesn't support it at all. Nightlies will have grey'd out checkboxes. If it didn't, you were not running the nightly. Note, it's called "HandBrake Nightly" in the start menu, not "handBrake" In your case, it doesn't really matter. Neither your Discrete or CPU GPU has VCE support. They are both...

I think this thread has out lived it's usefulness so I'm locking it.

The issue lies with the NTV550 so there is nothing more we can do or say about this.

Re: Minimum hardware required for AMD VCE option?

Your hardware is not supported I'm afraid. It's only available in the currently nightly. The preferences to enable automatically grey out for unsupported hardware. Basically, Anything that's not Polaris or Vega, is not supported by us. Some of the older cards may work. We don't block it but we won't...

Re: Blue Screen when the program reaches 100%

Your blue screen is defiantly a system level problem, not HandBrake. HandBrake is just exposing an underlying issue. We get this coming up quite frequently. 99% of the time, it's driver, hardware or unstable overclocks. We've even once seen an issue that disappeared with a BIOS update. You didn't sa...

Distributed encoding apps will simply send 1 job to 1 machine. It's not distributed in the sense of a single video.

Even then, there are no plans to support this in HandBrake.

I seem to recall someone having problems with a netgear box in the past so in all likely hood it's just picky or buggy firmware.

It's using the volume name, not the file name from the looks. You'd need to rename this on the ISO before HandBrake would pick it up.

Re: Compression size difference with and without Quick Sync Video

The Quality Scales are RF and QP for x264 and QSV H.264 respectively. They are not quite the same scale. Adjust the QSV one to a higher number to reduce file size. Note, QSV only supports a small subset of features that x264 does, so typically you'll need to have a higher bitrate or quality level (t...

Re: Dell R930 Utilization

The biggest issue you'll have is decode. Low clock speed xeon's are not ideal for this typically but since your using x265 which is a very CPU intensive, you should get away with it. I wouldn't have thought memory throughput would be an issue at 1080p, but it's difficult to say. We haven't yet enabl...

Re: Just a question about predetermined size in V1.1.2

Vidcoder, like HandBrake of years past, cannot accurately hit the target in many situations. As a results, users complain. It's also generally considered bad form to do this in the vast majority of situations. So it really makes no sense to have this feature. Would encourage you to look into quality...

There should be a file called Activity_logXYZ.txt where xyz is a number.

Also, for clarity, is this a system freeze or an app freeze

Logs are always recorded to disk when the process is running, so the last run will still be there.

You don't have to worry about the CPU "wearing out". As long as your temperatures are sensible and your not overclocking, that CPU should long outlive it's useful life.

Can reproduce it but don't see anything obviously wrong in our code so I'm thinking it's a driver bug.

Also, if you update to the latest nightly, the default rate control methods have changed. for bitrate, it's now using the higher quality cbr modes by default which should include the fake 2pass mode that it does. For quality, it's now using constqp rather than vbr. And finally, You have a 7980XE, wh...

Re: Ripping dvd on windows much too slow

That file (libdvdcss) hasn't been supported in a long time. It more often than not causes issues. Most people use something like MakeMKV to take the DVD into a MKV file, then use HandBrake to compress and transocde it into something smaller.

Re: Having troubles encoding a couple of Bluray

Turn off QuickSync decode in Tools -> Preferences -> Video.

It's only available when there is a monitor connected to the on board graphics. We are waiting for upstream changes to allow us to support Direct3D11 which handles multi GPU environments better on the decode side.

Issue around your erroneous h.264 level settings is now fixed. So it should fail the encode if you use less than level 4 on a 1080p encode.

Re: Best settings for h265 nvenc small files

Your expecting an awful lot if your only encoding at 1000kbit. Also, Level 3.1 isn't valid for 1080p. File will be 4.0 or higher unless you drop to 720p. Even with x265 which produces much better results at those low bitrates, the quality isn't amazing. You can't have it both ways with Nvenc. It's o...

Hmm, Driver docs seems to suggest it supports but there is 0 mention of it in their upstream media sdk. I'll need to ping someone at Intel and ask about it. I have a hunch that the required DLL's are no longer available in the place we expect them, or flat out no longer available. Hopefully they hav...

Re: Best settings for h265 nvenc small files

@kata40 -> We've removed the 2-pass checkbox because it was mis-leading. The 1st pass wasn't actually doing anything. It was all wasted CPU cycles. NVEnc doesn't actually support 2-pass encoding. They have something called VBR 2pass. This isn't actually what you'd expect it to be though. It's more o...
