Re: GPU/Cuda cores not used?

In all likelyhood, it's either the audio encoder (which you don't appear to be running in ffmpeg) or just the video decoding on the CPU that's holding it back at this point. HandBrake is more than a GUI to ffmpeg, although it does make heavy use of it's libraries along with many others. For transpor...

Re: GPU/Cuda cores not used?

Not the same workload. 1. There are several CPU only filters running in HandBrake which are not running in ffmpeg. These will defiantly introduce a bottleneck. You can probably turn these off for this particular source. (Decomb, Comb Detect and Framerate shaping) 2. ffmpeg might also be using nvdec ...

Re: GPU/Cuda cores not used?

TLDR, GPU encoding died a few years ago. Since that point, GPU vendors have included dedicated hardware encoders on the same silicon. This is fixed function hardware that does nothing other than video encoding / decoding. As such, the main GPU compute units are not used. GPU compute units are setup ...

Re: GPU/Cuda cores not used?

Using the Nvidia NVEnc encoder, doesn't mean No CPU usage. Decode, Filtering, A/V Sync etc are all done on the CPU, not NVEnc. As such, given the speed of the NVEnc encoder, you could still max out that CPU. Windows Task Manager has a "Video Encode" graph separate from the CPU utilisation which you'...

@nhyone -> Don't forget you need to consider memory bandwidth (not just quantity). Under certain conditions, this could be a severe bottleneck.

Re: Disable QSV when using CLI

The JSON block is a data model and is irrelevant. That's also not an Error code, it's just a default setting should it be turned on. QSV is in no way used here. AS for the FreeBSD port, this is currently on our blacklist for broken 3rd party builds. https://handbrake.fr/docs/en/1.3.0/get-handbrake/w...

QSV isn't used or supported on BSD and wasn't used, so is not related to your problem.

Where did you get this build of HandBrake?

Re: NVIDIA Decoding

There are no plans to introduce this. Generally, software decoding has proven to be far more reliable, especially with the less than complaint sources that HandBrake often sees. We previously had hardware decoding though DXVA but this was abandoned after it was proven to cause too many issues for us...

Re: Parallel queue implementation

Per @rollling_eng's comment -> Yes you can just run multiple instances. They each have a separate queue. I'm not sure how many instance you can run before memory bandwidth will become the limiting factor. I am working on a number of re-architecture projects that make this a possibility at the moment...

Re: All coverted films are called "STEREO" instead of right title

Crap ? Why ? Is there a reason why it work´s with HandBrake 1.2.2 and not with the 1.3.x versions ? I guess there is and why should it be a problem with my TV ? Only because HandBrake ist perfect ? As Mduell said, we know the change that triggered it. The files HandBrake produces meet spec. Any pla...

Any build with "SafeMode" in the name, does NOT include QuickSync, NvENC or VCE. You need to make sure to download the non-safemode builds if you want this functionality.

so I just disabled the cropping feature and it looks even better than the original now! Welcome to the Placebo Effect! Encoding is a lossy process. If there is an imperceptible difference then that's probably a decent encode. Might still be some room for some filesize / encode optimisation but if y...

Re: Intel HEVC QuickSync not available for selection

Drivers reporting back as not supported. It also looks like it's missing capabilities on the H.264 side too

I'm guessing switching to official drivers should correct this.

Re: Intel HEVC QuickSync not available for selection

Can you scan a random source please so I can see the hardware detection output in the log.

Also, you might want to use Intel Drivers directly if you can rather than Windows Update as the last couple of WU drivers have had issues with QuickSync.

Re: Missing Intel QSV settings?

Unfortunately new versions of HandBrake won't do anything for you. You've got a system level issue and unfortunately, other than us being able to tell it appears to be memory allocation related, we have no idea beyond that what's causing it. If one were to guess, areas I'd look at: - Other drivers, ...

Re: x265 Limit threads

Andrew is correct. The best solution is to lower priority further.

HandBrake has dozens of threads beyond just the encoder so you can still hit the CPU hard enough with lower thread counts to cause gaming to be a non starter.

Re: meaningful label of audio track not retained

Since the track names would typically be considered specific to the source you've scanned, they are not stored in presets.

The only way you could achieve this in an automated way, would be to write a shell script over HandBrakeCLI to parse/process your batch of sources.

Re: Dev Request: Windows 10 ARM64 version of HandBrake - please!!

Current State It's possible to compile and run HandBrakeCLI on Linux ARM64 today. It is *really* slow. Even with the latest SQ1, it's not going to be a "great" experience. I'd note that: These ARM processors still produce heat and will very likely thermal throttle under extended load so you can't e...
