Re: Application Not Responding - Big Sur

Where did you download 1.3.1 from? 1.3.3 is the current version.

Re: AMD GPU (RX570) Not Being Used by Handbrake for Transcoding

Last I checked, there is no support for AMD GPU's on the Linux GUI. We have no linux UI developer with hardware to test so unless a patch comes in, it will remain a HandBrakeCLI only feature.

Given how problematic it is on linux, It may always stay that way for advanced users to tinker with only.

That's also locked out with a token I'm afraid, so it'll just return an error unless you memory scan for the token.

Re: Suggestion : Handbrake app to follow the progress of our encodings

It actually won't. It's deliberately locked down for security reasons.

Exposing HandBrake off-network isn't wise. It's not a security hardened application and would pose too much risk so it's unlikely to see much if anything in the way of remote connectivity.

Re: Handbrake with OPtimus Nvidia MX250

HandBrake does not support the deprecated legacy CUDA encoder on either Linux or Windows. Nvidia abandoned this a while back. Since your MX250 doesn't support NVEnc, your outa luck here on both platforms. The GPU activity on Linux is something else. Maybe just the UI or something else running in the...

Re: New GPU For NVEnc vs GTX 1650

Are the newer generation GPU's better? Yes Are they better enough to justify spending cash to upgrade? Probably not unless you have other reason to upgrade Are they are good as software? No, you'll still end up with larger files or poorer results. Whether it's "good enough" for your use case, only y...

Re: With the M1, is there any encode by quality option in video toolbox?

You'll probably want to use software encoding if you care about quality and size. Feedback on M1 that I've seen hasn't been good with regards to quality and filesize.

x265 (inc 10bit) isn't too bad on M1 for speed.

Re: Handbrake with OPtimus Nvidia MX250

MX250 does not support NVEnc encoding so you can't use it for such. At best it'll only have decode support which is no use to HandBrake.

GT 710 is below HandBrake's minimum system requirements and is not supported.

Re: Radeon Hardware Encoding (AMD VCE) does not work

@sirloyne -> this isn't actually the same issue as you are having. You'd likely also run into this after fixing your first issue though which is that the VCE hardware encoders don't work on Windows 7. All the software encoders still operate normally.

Re: An Unknown Error Has Occured

Given that 1.1.1 works, it's highly likely the hardware probe in 1.2 or later is triggering the failure. That's a common failure with broken driver installs.

The "SafeMode" nightly exists to work around this problem for those unable to fix their systems.

Re: An Unknown Error Has Occured

You've likely got a corrupted graphics driver. Run Driver uninstaller DDU and re-install the latest drivers for that GPU and see if it helps.

Re: Confused in how the settings are meant to work - Slow to Fast

If your file is bigger it should have better quality.
To expand on this, if you are already at the point where you can't tell the difference in quality, you may have more play to move the quality slider and thus, reduce filesize.

Re: Radeon Hardware Encoding (AMD VCE) does not work

Unknown I'm afraid. We've only had reports recently of this particular error on windows 7. If you do try 8, please let us know one way or the other. I'd wager if 1 navi card is affected, they all will be. VCE is enabled on linux in HandBrake but with very limited support as no-one working on HandBra...

Re: .Net Framework issue

It very much is supported. It's literally been part of the operating system for a few years now.

If the link I provided above isn't working to re-install, then as I say, it must be a corruption or other problem on the machine and that's not something we can help you with.

Re: Radeon Hardware Encoding (AMD VCE) does not work

Yup, Windows 7 is a no-go for VCE on the 5700XT at present. We consider Windows 7 deprecated so it's not something that will be looked into. We've had reports already that the issue goes away when upgrading to windows 10 so it's in all likelihood a driver issue.

Windows 10 April 2018 (1803) already includes the required framework versions. The 10 core seems to lack hyperthreading. Difficult to say for sure which will be faster but I'd wager not an awful lot in it.

Re: How about the transcoding speed of the new m1 processor,

I'd be careful with that thinking on RAM. While certain apps may use less for various reasons, data is still data. HandBrake will still use very similar amounts of memory and 8GB in some cases, simply isn't enough. macOS will page to disk. With faster SSDs these days, paging is far less noticeable b...

Re: HB unable to encode with AMD VCE codec

The 5700 does indeed have VCE/VCN support. It's advertised on the official page but under the "media engine" naming. https://www.amd.com/en/products/graphics/amd-radeon-rx-5700 That said, I don't have a NAVI card nor a windows 7 machine to go check this. Windows 7 is not a platform we test on any mo...
