Re: Auto convert to mkv

There are two possible answers to this; yes and no, but mostly no... Yes, you could write a script that uses the CLI version of HB to re-encode any video file that's supported by HB and store it in a MKV container. No, you can't use HandBrake to remux a video file into a different container without ...

Re: AC3 or DTS to AC3?

I'd say that there is no single right answer for all possible situations... If you can use AC3 pass through then that's probably the best quality you'll get. However if you want to transcode the audio to a lower bitrate, downmix or change the gain then you might be better off using the DTS track as ...

Re: encode dropping many frames

You could try dd for windows. There are many projects that try to port dd to windows, but most seem to have stalled at the "good enough for my purpose" stage.
One that looks promising can be found here: http://www.chrysocome.net/dd

Re: Can't open new updated handbrake ??

Press Winkey+r

Copy the following path to the Run dialog: C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\HandBrake
Press enter and the HandBrake folder will open.

Now just click on the file presets.xml and delete or rename it.

Click the Source button and select Open Folder http://i.imgur.com/T44Rq.jpg HandBrake will scan the files in the directory and if you've got 7K files there it's going to take a while... Note that subdirectories will not be included. Once the scan is done you can select the destination directory, pro...

Re: Laptop Crashes when encode starts

Start by checking that all fans are running. Sometimes they die a silent death without any squeals, rattling, or other sign to alert you to the situation. Also check that the fans are reasonably clean. A fuzzy fan won't move much air. If your computer is anything like mine then it's probably moonlig...

Re: Trouble playing 1080p

Experimenting with settings like this can be very tedious. I suggest you start by encoding a short clip first, say from 1200 seconds to 1260. That will give you a one minute clip taken 20 minutes from the start of the movie to test for device compatibility. If that clip doesn't work then you've elim...

You could try this guide: http://www.dvd-guides.com/content/view/229/59/ It's titled "How to convert any video format to DVD using DVD Flick" I've never used or even heard of Flick before though, and have no idea if it's a freeware or commercial product. Other guides that might be of interest can be...

The Target Size option is dead, gone, pining for the fjords of Norway... Re: Public openCL builds

PSNR is a way to measure quality loss in an image. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PSNR for the details. The tricky part is that the compression used by HB is exploiting some psychological and physiological tricks that makes it possible to reproduce an image that has a lower PSNR value but is perce...

Re: Different resolution on LED TV

As Smithcraft wrote, post the log! Having said that I can answer your first question, yes you are losing some image quality using HandBrake the way you describe. Actually HB will always re-encode the video stream no matter what you do, so I suggest you look to other tools for what you are trying to ...

Re: Where is the Picture Settings Dialoge in Windows Version

I guess that what waltermmm is looking for is the preview window. The Windows version of HB does not have any kind of interactive preview. So if the automatic cropping doesn't work for you just select the Custom option and set your own values, then use Preview to see what it looks like. Not as strea...

Re: New user -confused

Hi and welcome to the forum, I'm unfamiliar with "1 Click DVD Copy Pro" but if the output is unencrypted you should be able to feed it to HB. Another option is to use some thing like MakeMKV to rip the DVD. The resulting MKV file can then be used with HB to create a iPad compatible file. MakeMKV is ...

More to the point, why did Tjabo's test preserve the fractional part of the --stop-at duration" and my test did not? Perhaps it's the source? My source was a MKV file containing a MPEG2 video stream.
