Re: Major changes or optimizations
You're using wildly different settings than you used to. No. I imported my customization from before. All settings are the same as before. I like my encodes to be consistent. This wasn't a complaint, I was just wondering if some kind of optimization had been added in the last update or two. Maybe o...

Major changes or optimizations
I was just wondering if you guys had made some significant changes related to 4K encodes lately? My encodes used to take on average 18+ hours. I recently wiped and reinstalled my PC and installed the newest HandBrake and it is telling me that my 4K encode will only take about 8 hours. What witchcraf...

Re: 4K streaming at home... looking for some recommendations
If you are getting any stream drops and stutters over a wired connection, yes, there is something else very wrong, and my utility can help you track lost packets there, too. Hope that's a dedicated connection, start there. Even a network switch can be a bottleneck. You should have little trouble ge...

Re: 4K streaming at home... looking for some recommendations
using wifi You would be wise to focus on that, and only that, for the time being. Router in the same room as the TV and server device. Minimum 300 Mbps actual measured sustainable bidirectional throughput. Necessary, not optional for reliable 4k. Router advertised speeds are meaningless! WiFi is yo...

Re: 4K streaming at home... looking for some recommendations
So... the Roku 4K 30fps played with no problems. Even with the quality bumped up to 22. I guess that will be my new preset of choice. I am just curious though, what were the ideas that you had? I'm guessing you've either seen or heard of a similar situation. I'm happy to experiment a bit if it means...

Re: Cores, cores, and more cores
@s55 Thanks. I have tried tweaking the presets a little but the time saved is negligible. I have gotten in the habit of starting an encode when I go to bed and by the time I get back from work then next day it's done... usually. @mudell You really need to check that superiority complex of yours. You...

Re: Cores, cores, and more cores
@s55
Thank you. I guess I'm just stuck with 4K encodes taking 12+ hours (in some cases 16+ hours) per encode *sigh*. I guess I had gotten spoiled when my 1080p encodes were only taking a couple of hours each.

Cores, cores, and more cores
Now that AMD and Intel are offering such large core/thread count CPUs, I was wondering if there were plans to either "improve" the current HandBrake to utilize more cores/threads (I believe the officially supported count is 6 cores) in order to get better encoding performance, or perhaps a...

Re: 4K encode question
Yes, unfortunately, Roku only supports DLNA shares. Wish it supported SMB or CIFS as that would have made this a lot simpler. As far as the 2160p files and Roku, it does not see either of the files i made regardless of codec. Have tried both x264_10bit and x265 2160p and it won't see any of those. I...

Re: 4K encode question
OK. I did an upgrade from 1.0.7 to 1.1.0 so maybe that's why the logs still say 1.0.7. Anyway, I took the Roku 2160p60 preset and chnaged the codec to x264_10bit and it says it will take about 4ish hours to complete. I can live with that. Plus, my Roku doesn't seem to recognize the 4k files over my ...

Re: 4K encode question
Is that normal? Assuming you haven't misstated or fatfingered anything (we require logs in order to verify these things), yes, it's quite possibly normal. 4K video is 8x as many pixels as 1080p, so going to take 8x longer right off the top. Then going from the Roku 1080p30 preset to the Roku 2160p6...

4K encode question
This isn't really a problem, or rather, I'm trying to find out if I have one. I finally got a Blu Ray drive that recognizes 4k discs. So I updated my makemkv and handbrake to see how easy it was to rip and encode. Oh, before I forget... CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 1700X (8 cores/16 threads) RAM: 32GB When I e...

Re: Hopefully not too dumb a question...
Also your DVD rips are absolutely not uncompressed; DVDs are quite compressed. I meant they are using all available data from the dvd. Are there recommendations you can make that will help with the image quality when viewed on a 1080p TV? I generally use the presets in Handbrake when ripping BRays ...

That's why those statements were in "". I highly doubt they would be able to do "that" good a job. I used to have an up scaling dvd player back when my TV was only 720p and it did a fair job but I got rib of both ages ago. I was just hoping there was something else I could do as ...

Hopefully not too dumb a question...
OK. So there are DVD/BRay players out there that will take standard DVDs and "upscale" them to "near 1080p" quality. I was wondering Handbrake had a similar function? I have a lot of DVDs that are either still not available on BRay or still cost too much for me to replace the DVD...

Re: Just two (hopefully little) things
Actually, FLAC does show up but not the 24bit version. This is on a Win7 machine. I have Ubuntu running on a VM and installed handbrake there and the 24bit one shows up there. This is running ver 0.9.9 on both.
