Forced Subtitles: What Is Your Personal Process?

I didn't pay attention to subtitles when I was getting my whole conversion routine in place. I've now played around with it a bit, and I have no problem with burning in subtitles on my BluRay conversions. Where I am having troubles is a) remembering to look around to find out whether the movie has s...

Re: Who knew BD subtitles (in MP4s) were such a mess?

I've also done a bunch of movies with HB, but only recently started paying attention to subtitles. I'm only interested in forced subtitles on movies: the stuff in Captain Phillips, the bits in Star Wars, and, of course, translating Jive from Airplane! I don't have any complaint about HB right now, I...

ATV3 V1 v. V2: Performance Differences?

I swear this is on topic simply because 95% of my ATV use is to watch things encoded through Handbrake. (Besides, the smarter people tend to hang out here ;) ). I have an ATV3 V1 in the living room, and have bought a second one to put in my son's room. Given they're functionally identical (I assume ...

Looking for Video File Examination Tool

I'm looking for a tool on Win7 that would let me examine a variety of video file types and tell me about encoding, audio types within the video, etc. I find myself curious sometimes what's inside the file, what might have been preserved or lost downstream and when, etc. The more video formats suppor...

Re: Windows/Hauppauge/QuickTime: I Just Want to Understand

I've been looking at VideoRedo per your recommendation, and thinking it might be the thing to get. It also might help my son address a few things for editing. He's young, and has visions of making Let's Play videos (ugh!). I bought him Fraps to do the capturing, but found they are raw AVI files. I'm...

Windows/Hauppauge/QuickTime: I Just Want to Understand This

I do not believe this is a HandBrake bug, though I guess it could be. I've asked about the problem elsewhere without an answer, though, and this seems to be the best gathering of video experts I've found. I'll preface by saying I don't understand all the ins and outs of video, so there may be suppos...

Two Small Usability Bugs

Running the most recent on Windows: * my default setting for an MP4 file is to always use M4V for the file extension. This works for the default setting, but if you decide to click the Browse button to select an alternative location for the file, the filename is then changed in the file select dialo...

Re: Looking for Win7 Ripper Recommendations

After my DVD truck got stuck under the bridge, and after considering all the ways I might raise the bridge, I finally let some of the air out of the tires. I spent $30 on an inexpensive external DVD drive, set the region code to 2 on the drive, and imported with MakeMKV to my heart's content. I labe...

Re: Looking for Win7 Ripper Recommendations

Okay, my wanderly way of explaining myself: I'm on this journey out of curiosity. There are almost 15,000 songs on my iPod Classic, and I own almost all of them on CD. For my entire life, I've been what they called a "catalog buyer," have tastes all over the map, and just love the notion that I can ...

Re: Looking for Win7 Ripper Recommendations

So, are there a lot of areas MakeMKV won't work beyond a region code that makes AnyDVD necessary? If not, are a lot of the less pricey ripping products just not worth the money? AnyDVD HD with no other options is $100 US for two years. I'm happy enough to do it if that's the only reliable solution, ...

Looking for Win7 Ripper Recommendations

I have a modest set of BDs and DVDs I want to rip to eventually view through an ATV3. I've done some experimenting, and I'm happy with what I can do with Handbrake once I've done the rip. I've used MakeMKV for a test with a BD disk, and it seemed to have gone well. I don't mind paying for a solution...
