I add these parameters to all of my HD encodes:
That should help preserve fast motion scenes. I also use Wi-Fi and have not had an issue when using encodes with these parameters.
Code: Select all

Wow, Ok. In that case I'm likely wasting my time packaging in the DTS track. Thanks for your insight.

Re: iPod Touch 5th gen--best presets?
Also, if you want a file that can also be played on a TV with good image quality (via e.g. the iOS-based AppleTV) rather than maximize the number of movies you can fit on your iPod, the AppleTV 2 (720p) or 3 (1080p) presets will also work on a 5G iPod touch. Rodeo, do you want to speculate on the l...

DTS and Apple TV
I just started including DTS audio passthru in my HandBrake encodes in the hope that someday Apple will support it via the Apple TV device. Anyone else including DTS (in addition to AAC and AC-3) in their encodes?

You know, there are actually quite few of us. If you want this fixed quicker, you need to either provide a patch or have someone do it on your behalf. Otherwise you'll just have to wait until one of us decides to implement this. Just wondering if anyone had worked this into one of the nightly build...

Ok, thanks for that. That was the first time I had used the "30 FPS" setting. Normally I use the "Same as Source (VFR)".s55 wrote:It's to do with the PFR setting
When you select Same as Source (VFR) it works fine.

Please try to get the beginning of that log. Log files are saved to disk (see the red banner for more info). Also, please post the MediaInfo report for the source file. Seems the HandBrake log file is 49.1MB in size! So here's a link to it: http://michelangelo.com/uploads/MOF_1080p.BDrip%202012-07-...

Converted Man on Fire (Blu-ray MKV rip) last night. I knew it was too good to be true as I was getting 13.6 FPS conversion speeds where I usually get between 6 - 8 FPS. Looking at the file in MediaInfo and the HandBrake logs the video rate was 43 Kbps! Took the AppleTV3 present and only change I mad...

I've seen some really good numbers from Handbrake CLI users who've been able to use Amazon's EC2. I've tried to get an instance setup on Amazon using CLI but I don't know enough about Linux to get it to work. I'm hoping that some kind soul who has actually used Amazon EC2 is able to write a short &q...

I have a copy of Super Bowl 46 that has a frame rate of 59.94 FPS and it plays back perfectly on AppleTV 3 and ATV2. Looks stunning in 720p (~ 5190 Kbps video bit rate).

Re: Good settings for Blu Rays?
I just bought the Lord of the Rings extended edition on Amazon.com, they have a great price on this set now. I'm converting them at full 1080p, I'll be darned how long it takes... So it's all about the quality of the movie versus the time to encode. For good quality movies, I'll do the encodes over ...

Re: Good settings for Blu Rays?
Unless you have hardware that can't take 1080p, there's not much reason to go to 720p and no reason to go 900p. If you want smaller files, increase the RF and keep it at 1080p for a better result until the RF gets quite high (32+). I'm not really concerned about the file sizes, and my hardware (App...

Re: Good settings for Blu Rays?
I used the Apple TV2 preset as a basis and then tweaked it from there. Many Blu-rays will look just fine with a CQ 22 and at 720p. For more recent Blu-ray discs that have excellent transfers you should consider 1080p or 900p (1600 x 900 pixels). Again, CQ of 22 is just fine, no need to use a CQ of 1...

Did you perchance test the C1.Medium instance? It only costs 25% of the C1.XLarge instance. Anything better than 25% of the performance would make it a worthwhile image to use.

Re: DVD: The Best Setting?
I find that for DVDs the AppleTV2 preset offers a very high quality versus the time to encode a MP4 version. It uses the CF=20 plus some important settings on the Advanced tab. I think you would be satisfied with the results.

The "extortion fee" is $99 (US) per year. I don't think Apple is going get rich off of Mac Developer fees. Having said that, it's still $99 that someone has to pay. If you are looking for donations, I'm willing to contribute some if others are also willing. I've gotten a lot of value out o...

In a post on this Mac Forum @Rodeo suggested that if you used the "web optimized" setting that the following advanced options should also be set: vbv-bufsize=31250:vbv-maxrate=25000 I don't quite understand the 31250 number as for Blu-ray discs the vbv-bufsize cannot be larger than 30000. ...

I have found that MP4Tools does a fairly good job of muxing audio tracks with a video track. It complements HandBrake in that regard. It will do what you are looking to achieve, I believe.
