Transcode start time

Because of the length of time and CPU demands it takes to transcode a BR, I usually do it overnight. I usually set up the queue earlier in the day and then before going to bed, hit START. But sometimes, I have a few to many refreshments and forget to hit that damn button. How about a setting that wo...

Re: Subtitle burn in: help desperately needed

I have posted a process at this forum: http://forums.macrumors.com/forumdisplay.php?f=100. You'll have to search for it and it does rely on some Mac only software, ... Thank you for taking the effort (BTW: Here we are on a Mac forum anyway...). I could not immediately find your posts, but in parall...

Re: How can I extract the text subtitle track into a SRT fil

I'm close to give up... Perhaps a kind soul can answer my not directly HB related question: Can I extract somehow, with some software, the text based subtitle track from the original mkv file into a SRT text file? Then I could mux this track with subler into my HB generated mp4, and ATV and iTunes ...

Re: How to rip DVD with forced subtitles for use on Apple TV

Start the file playing in VLC. Go to a place where you expect forced subs to occur. If you see them displayed correctly while the movie is playing in VLC, go to the head and make a note of which subtitle track is being played. The go back to HB and select that track under your subtitle track menu.

Re: What should i downmix DTS to?

Hello everyone :D Im about to encode my blu-ray collection, and i know the ATV2 and ATV3 dosent support DTS HD and DTS. I dont own a 5.1set yet, but I will later, so to be a litte sted forward, i will convert my movies so they play 5.1, but if i choose 6-channel discrete, will it then play 5.1 when...

That's what I have done. Select the aTV3 preset, click web optimize and save it as my default preset.

Not the same UI. Are you using a custom preset based on AppleTV 3?
Using the AppleTV 3 preset with web optimized checked and foreign audio search selected. That's all.

Re: Resolution Question

Cropping is done before scaling. Your Blu-ray is just 2.35:1, that's all. Why does the encode using the loose anamorphic look so crappy compared to the strict anamorphic? And as I mentioned the cropping values do not change between strict and loose, but the width and height values do. And why, once...

Re: Resolution Question

I don't think it's a cropping thing after all. When I use the aTV 3 preset (using anamorphic loose) the input is 1920x1080, output 720x306. The cropping values are 134/132/2/0. The video quality of the transcode is poor pixelated and noisy with transcoding artifacts. If I change the picture setting ...

Resolution Question

HB (svn4877) says my source file (mkv from a BR) is 1920x1080 and the output file is 720x306 (cropping 134/132/2/0). Seems like a huge crop. So all of that "1080p" resolution was mostly just black space? Edit: forgot to mention I was used the aTV3 preset. Also, I just started it up again i...

Re: Audio Sync Problems

As an alternative try ripping with MakeMKV (free while in beta), splice parts one and two with MKVToolNix and encode in HandBrake only once. http://makemkv.com/ http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/index.html I did it that way with the whole series and it turned out perfect. I was afraid to ...

What are you using to try and view the attached file? From what I have read, various systems, e.g. Media Center, XMBC, etc need plugins to be able to view the attached artwork.

Re: Seeking with mp4 vs mkv

Is there no simple way of adding jpg images directly into the movie file rather than having two separate files? I've tried using MKVtoolnix in windows and added 'cover.jpg' @ 600x800px in size in the attachments but the image STILL doesnt show up. I must have been doing something wrong. Well, after...

On the Audio tab, select:
Track:DTS-HD MA (5.1 ch) (assuming its the HD audio you are looking for)
Codec: AC3 (ffmpeg)
Mixdown: 6-channel discrete

Yes, I was assuming the conversion of the DTS to AC3 would be selected.

1st audio track should be AAC, 2nd either the DTS or Dolby surround. Just wanted to make sure you realized that as it wasn't clear to me from your post. Personally, I "web optimize" everything as I stream my files over wifi. It's improves streaming ability. Even if you use ethernet, it won...

Re: Seeking with mp4 vs mkv

You seemed to have analyzed the situation pretty accurately. Although I do think the quality of the seek depends a lot on the software/hardware used. If you are finally going to end up with a unit that supports mkv (Boxee Box) and storage space is not a problem, I would go that way. For mkv's person...

Re: Web Optimization

I'm afraid not. But you can optimize your file in Subler after the fact, and it's not that long (no re-encoding, only remuxing). My problem is, right now I am moving about 300 movies (both dvd and BR) to the apple tv. Some of them are older and not optimized, some newer and optimized with Subler an...
