Re: Two unicode characters not rendered correctly in subtitle

There doesn't appear to be a newer release of libass. Perhaps raise the issue on their GitHub: https://github.com/libass/libass

Re: No valid Source when opening H.265 file

The file does not open in QuickTime Player on macOS 10.13.6. I'm not seeing anything of substance indicating it's an MP4 container aside from the file extension.

Re: 10 bit vs 12 bit video opinions

10-bit being smaller than 8-bit can be measured and quantified: http://x264.nl/x264/10bit_02-ateme-why_ ... dwidth.pdf (PDF).

TL;DR: More accurate compression leads to fewer truncation errors, saving space.

Seems the same to me at a glance. Is it possible your display or playback device has motion smoothing turned on?

Re: Issues while preserving picture quality with DVD set of Real Adventures of Jonny Quest

Give Decomb EEDI2 a shot. It's slow but more effective for troublesome sources.

Re: Constant framerate not constant?

If I recall correctly, there is no concept of constant frame rate in mp4. The time stamps are all that matter, and while HandBrake ensures they amount to a constant frame rate, there is no way for other applications to know this. So MediaInfo and the like will always report variable, even if the fra...

Re: Fast Decode option

Important to note that using the associated presets typically results in the video not being recompressed by YouTube at the original resolution.

It looks like your source has some timestamp errors. You may have better luck with the nightly build and/or the Production presets.

Re: Wrong Audio Stream

After making your changes in the Audio Selection Behavior dialog, save a new preset and use it for your encodes.

Re: No audio after converting

The log lists a few encodes and all seem to recognize and encode the audio. Are you sure there is no audio track in the output file(s), or just no sound?

I suppose you could try the nightly build.

Re: Encoding for Amazon Fire HD 8 tablet

Some good news, I've proposed renaming the Fire TV presets to Amazon Fire, adding descriptions of compatible models including tablets, and adding a 720p30 preset for compatible devices. See https://github.com/HandBrake/HandBrake/pull/1582. That said, 1080p HEVC is still not planned at this time due ...

Re: Encoding shifts video 2 frames back

Under the main HandBrake menu (File, Edit, etc.) go to Presets > Reset Official Presets. It might be named slightly differently depending on the operating system.

Re: HandBrake 1.1.2 Discussion Thread

For those curious, HandBrake 1.1.2 has been tested working on macOS Mojave and we encourage everyone to update.

If you plan to compile HandBrake's source code on Mojave, we recommend using git master branch until 1.2.0 is released (see https://github.com/HandBrake/HandBrake/issues/1578).

Re: Encoding for Amazon Fire HD 8 tablet

After some review, I'm not sure there's much to be done. There is already a Fire TV HEVC preset (albeit only constrained to 2160p60), and I'm hesitant to add 1080p30 HEVC presets at this time. While many devices are beginning to support it, encoding time is dramatically increased for not much gain i...

I am looking into adding H.265 preset(s) for additional Amazon Fire devices. I'm also thinking about renaming the Fire TV presets to Amazon Fire, since they should cover Fire TV and Fire tablets.

Re: why you said 18 to 20 crf for standard ??? and 20 to 23 for hd ?? non sence!!

Additionally, SD sources are typically viewed on HD or higher displays, magnifying imperfections. So it's necessary to use a lower RF to avoid introducing artifacts that will be more noticeable in this case. Rate Factor is not an absolute quality metric. It's more like quality-per-pixel. So the outp...

Re: Encoding shifts video 2 frames back

3. All of HandBrake's "Production" presets set b-frames=0. I don't know if this was done to address this particular type of problem or not. Maybe BradleyS will chime in since he created these presets. But a note somewhere in the documentation wouldn't hurt. Generally speaking, all-Intra or closed G...
