Re: CLI Parameters Explaination

Bingo. Obviously (now, at least), you could also experiment with changing the block dimensions as well.

Unfortunately, not much of this is documented outside the code itself.

You might try lowering the block threshold.

Re: Only seeing a single English subtitle track while MKV has 4 English tracks

As it stands, if I view a movie in VLC and want any subtitles from the 2nd English subtitle track I am unable to do so if the 1st English subtitle track requires burn-in. Assuming both subtitle tracks you want are PGS and your output format is MP4, that's essentially correct. The Selection Behavior...

Re: Six hour dvd issue

Unfortunately, it's not uncommon for set top recorders to produce very poorly mastered discs that don't work well in all players. Try Woodstock's suggestion and use a tool like MakeMKV, which is designed to work around these issues; HandBrake is not. You can then feed MakeMKV's output to HandBrake i...

Re: Six hour dvd issue

It's possible to pack in a lot of video on DVD where using a lower standard resolution such as 352x480/576 MPEG-2, or even 352x240/288 if you're willing to suffer MPEG-1. Not terribly uncommon for home video capture and editing solutions to pull off. ;)

Re: Only seeing a single English subtitle track while MKV has 4 English tracks

Indeed, PGS subtitles as found on Blu-ray are not compatible with MP4 as-is and must be burned in.

We'll need a complete encoding log to see more info about how HandBrake is handling things.

Thanks for sharing this.

My guess is that Decomb EEDI2 will take the cake where edges and aliasing are concerned. While slow, it's the best I've come across.

Don't worry, you're not disqualified. Thanks for making an effort to find your log(s). :)

Latest HandBrake for Windows has a convenient button on the Queue window for opening the logs directory. Is there anything there?

You can be sure it's working because you've selected FDK-AAC in the UI and the Activity Log says the audio encoder is FDK-AAC.

Re: Best settings for h265 nvenc small files

This is not uncommon with high core count CPUs. 720p probably won't saturate all the cores. Also, decomb can be a bit of a bottleneck, but it seemed to identify enough combing that I would leave it enabled. 122 fps is still fast. If you really want to give your CPU more work, use a slower x265 prese...

Re: Handbrake AAC vs AC3 (2.0 ONLY)

There is a file in your linux home directory, likely called .bashrc, that sets up certain things when you open a Terminal (it's more complicated than that, but this should suffice for now). So you want to edit the file at ~/.bashrc and add that line at the end. Without it, nothing will find the ming...

Re: Will Handbrake allow me to use subtitles while watching a movie on my TV?

Best to pick a chapter or portion from the start of the video to test SRT. There's a bug in previews that won't correct the offset, but this won't affect a full length encode or partial encodes starting from the beginning.

Re: Start button missing

Hold the Control key and click on a blank area on HandBrake's toolbar (where the Start icon would be), and select Customize Toolbar... from the menu. Then drag the default set to the toolbar to reset it, or customize it how you please.

It should work if you added the .SRT file using the Subtitles tab in HandBrake.

10->8 bits, yes. HandBrake provides 8-bit data to the chosen encoder. 8-, 10-, and 12-bit encoders are selectable.

HDR support is in planning stages and is not currently implemented.

The news for 1.2.0 links to a list of compatible replacements. See the list at the end of https://handbrake.fr/docs/en/1.2.0/technical/official-presets.html In this case, the HQ 1080p30 Surround preset is virtually the same as High Profile. Improvements are "Peak limited to 30 FPS, reduced video bit...

Re: 2160p UHD Movie green screen

We had another report of this recently. I'm wondering if a recent Apple TV firmware update is causing this, because it worked fine before.

Will you please test the same preset and change the video encoder to the 10-bit version? You can encode only one chapter or time period to test more quickly.

"Unknown" in this instance indicates no language is identified. The audio itself is identified as uncompressed PCM which is common for DV files and the log indicates everything went fine. What are you using to play back the file?

@musicvid MJPEG in MP4?

As mduell mentions, the Production presets are designed for compatibility with video editors. See also the documentation for how to adjust quality: https://handbrake.fr/docs/en/1.2.0/work ... ality.html
