Re: Best Settings for a 55inch Display

I wouldn't use that site for guidance. At best, it's out of date.

You probably want to start with NLMeans Light, High Motion tune.

Re: Best Settings for a 55inch Display

If you're dealing with noise due to limited light during recording, you may want to try one of the denoise filters, such as NLMeans. Increasing encode quality will not denoise the original picture.

Re: Setting in custom preset not taking

So it goes with the nightly build. We try to keep it stable, but changes are intentional and sometimes they can be sweeping. Comments are always welcome. That said, it's often less than helpful to involve the general public in design and engineering tasks at this stage. Once we've implemented more o...

Re: Using Handbrake to Fix Variable Frame Rate Audio Sync Issues When Editing

Align A/V Start is needed for players that don't understand MP4 Edit Lists. That said, you may want to try the nightly build and disable the feature, just to see if that was the fix or if it was something else in the nightly's improved sync code. We've fixed a variety of issues there.

Re: Why does Encoder Tune: Animation cause issues on my iPod Classic?

Most likely too many reference and b frames. Try adding ref=5:bframes=5 to the additional options box on the video tab. If that doesn't work, try a lower number; I'm not sure exactly how many ref/b the Classic supports.

Re: Lossless Video Quality from Blu-Ray Source (H.264 Encoder)

The documentation these days is focused on workflows for normal humans. Official presets, mostly. I will likely add some links in the technical section at some point. That said, my todo list is quite long at the moment and this is fairly low priority.

Looks like these are already part of the Fedora deps? https://handbrake.fr/docs/en/latest/dev ... edora.html

Feel free to paste your build log here if you're having further issues. Moving thread to *nix support.

Re: Lossless Video Quality from Blu-Ray Source (H.264 Encoder)

Generally speaking, with quality-based encoding and slower encoder presets, you should achieve better compression (smaller files). Some nearly imperceptible benefits to quality may present as well, usually not more than lowering the RF a little. That said, there are many variables involved, so in pr...

It would be good to have a sample of your source so we can see why it's producing so many errors in the log.

If the output is large enough, I suspect HandBrake may be generating a 64-bit MP4, which the older hardware does not support.

HandBrake doesn't make fully Blu-ray compatible output at this time, and Blu-ray doesn't use MKV or FLAC.

Re: Presets for reducing 18Gb, 1920x1080, MKV video file to ca. 9Gb?!

Log looks pretty sane to me, although it says RF 20 instead of 19 as your post suggests. Anyway, don't deselect Keep Aspect Ratio! If I read the log correctly, HandBrake is cropping black bars and then you're upscaling (not good, typically). I'm not sure why the GUI is allowing this, but it shouldn'...

Re: Upgrade of MKV collection from H.264 to H.265 possible?

It's not that H.265 is experimental—the spec is stable. But current encoders haven't had any major breakthrough in compression efficiency, at least not for high/archival quality. x265 can make low bit rate video look surprisingly good, however. So even if more devices supported hardware accelerated ...

Re: encoding input 4K video to chunks of size <4GB

Your original source is already encoded HEVC/H.265 which is generally supposed to provide more efficient compression than AVC/H.264. What you're trying to do in terms of file size isn't possible without reducing quality by quite a lot more than you've asked the encoder.

Re: Upgrade of MKV collection from H.264 to H.265 possible?

Generally speaking, you will want to go back to your original sources to achieve the best quality and compression. That said, I think it's a bit early to be switching to H.265 en masse (or at least for me). H.264 isn't going away. Better to enjoy your current collection, and maybe experiment with so...
