Re: Presets: AppleTV 3 vs Apple 1080p30 Surround??

Yes, see the documentation for where to find the logs: https://handbrake.fr/docs/en/1.1.0/help ... y-log.html

To be a fair comparison, we will need one from the old version and one from the newer version, using the same source and settings.

@mduell If it makes you feel better, I rejected an unrelated support request lacking an activity log earlier. ;)

Re: Presets: AppleTV 3 vs Apple 1080p30 Surround??

Moved to Mac forum.

Without seeing logs for the same source before and after upgrading, it’s impossible to say what’s causing the difference in file size with the legacy preset.

Apple 1080p30 Surround is the best modern preset for Apple TV 3rd Generation. :)

Thanks for the logs. I've asked another developer who works on our sync code to take a look.

Re: Audio desync with PCM source

Hopefully John will have some time to look at this one. Will be easier to track if you will create an issue on GitHub.

Desync aside, the log indicates level 4.1 isn’t valid for the frame size.

Re: Odd subtitle troubles

VOBSUB in MP4 is a bit of a hack that many players do not support. Either burn them in or use the OCR feature in Subler if you prefer MP4.

HandBrake 1.1.0, use the official preset named Fast 576p25.

Sorry for the trouble, this is a known issue with earlier versions of HandBrake and macOS 10.13.4. Sounds like you found the fix on your own. 8)

Re: File Details: Data Rate = 0, Total Bit Rate = 64

We’ve had a few reports of this, and it appears to be Windows showing an incorrect value when it can’t detect the actual value. If the audio sounds fine, it most likely is.

Re: Unable to select output file

My understanding is that the split name/directory controls are necessary for sandboxing, which is something we've worked toward and aren't ready to abandon at this time.

Re: Do updates change how video is rendered?

There are no significant changes to existing presets in the 1.1.0 release. That said, we updated nearly every internal library including audio and video encoders, so subtle improvements may be found. We don’t expect anything to be especially noticeable.

Could be a permissions issue with the Applications folder. Make sure your user has write permissions.

If you simply need short GOP without bidirectional frames, try the Production presets in HandBrake 1.1.0. They make NLE-friendly MP4 files with H.264 video.

Re: Mysterious copy protection from 2006 (?!)

54 minutes could indicate the hang happens at the layer change for the dual layer DVD disc. Probably a manufacturing fault at that point, one that some set top players manage to work with but PC drives struggle with.

Try with git master head or the recently released 1.1.0. Both are significantly newer.

The EEDI2 decomb presets are slightly higher quality but come with a significant encoding speed penalty.

As far as I know, this metadata is not preserved. If you want, you can use Subler to edit/apply track names and other data after the initial encode.

Re: Noob Questions

1. No. 2. Your downloaded source was likely already heavily compressed. It will be difficult to do better unless you raise the RF significantly. 3. Probably not. Encoding does make heavy use of your computer’s resources, but generally speaking they are not disposable resources. I wouldn’t worry abou...

It should. We’ve tried to get the Ubuntu maintainer to fix or remove their package to no avail, sadly. Apologies for the confusion; we have no control there.
