Re: Legacy Presets Missing from v1.2.1

See the Adjusting quality article: https://handbrake.fr/docs/en/1.2.0/work ... ality.html

You can also use the Apple 540p30 Surround preset which I believe is the resolution of the old iPad preset.

Re: All Videos have subtitles burned in them

Bitmap subtitles like VOBSUB (DVD) and PGS (Blu-ray) aren't fully compatible with the MP4 container. The former will work with some players (notably not Apple products), and the latter is unworkable. By default HandBrake attempts to burn in the first subtitle matching your preferences and/or the def...

Re: Mixdown defaulting to Stereo?

Official presets moved from DPL2 to stereo with version 1.2.0, due to issues discovered with the DPL2 encoder regarding wide pans being represented incorrectly, and the fact that the vast majority of people do not use DPL2 decoders anymore.

Re: Batch encode .DAV files?

We definitely won't have this in HandBrake by Friday. Months more likely for the next minor release. FFmpeg master branch should do the trick.

This is a message from an external library that can be safely ignored. It's not a hard error. We're working on silencing the message.

Re: Best lossless settings for mp4 transformation

It's important to recognize the steps a transcoder takes between your source video and the (re-)encoded video, notably the part where each frame is decompressed into uncompressed picture planes before encoding to the final format. Basically, the original compression is not taken into account when en...

Re: Wrong Output Size

Yes, the video has 1920x1080 pixels. HandBrake calls this the storage resolution. 2592 in the display resolution is just a number to tell the player how to unsquish/stretch the picture on playback so it's the correct aspect ratio. Your video does not have 2592 pixels width, it's 1920.

Re: Wrong Output Size

This is how anamorphic video works. The 2592 width is a fake number that with the height represents the proper display aspect (cinemascope 2.40:1, which is 2592/1080). Your video is actually stored at 1920x1080 and is compatible with 1080p devices and players.

Re: Did I make a mistake on audio track settings?

What you're doing is perfectly fine.

Note that some devices can have compatibility issues with AAC stereo at bit rates higher than 160 kbps. Also, the Windows AAC encoder quality is improved in version 1.2.0, so please upgrade.

Re: Did I make a mistake on audio track settings?

The Apple device presets do what I believe you are saying, AAC+AC3. This is well and and good. Dolby Pro Logic II is not discrete surround sound, and today is mostly treated to be stereo, so you want that AC3 track.

Re: Best lossless settings for mp4 transformation

x264 lossless at RF 0 is not compatible with Premiere. And the guidelines that apply to home archival encoding do not apply to post production intermediates. This is why the Production presets exist, with their respective RF of 2 for Max and 10 for Standard. Something like RF 15/16 might be consider...
