Re: System Crash when using Handbrake

5) As silly as it may sound, if this a notebook PC with a brick-type power adapter, it might be failing under load (voltage sag or inability to provide sufficient current). Has happened to me more than once with all sorts of equipment. Tough to measure without the right equipment, though. Aside, my ...

Re: System Crash when using Handbrake

Source encodes fine on macOS. I booted up my Arch VM and performed: flatpak install runtime/org.gnome.Platform/x86_64/3.34 flatpak --user install HandBrake-1.3.0-x86_64.flatpak # Direct download from handbrake.fr Installed apps and runtimes: [arch@localhost ~]$ flatpak list Name Application ID Versi...

Re: System Crash when using Handbrake

Another thing you might try if you have time is building HandBrake from source (non-Flatpak) and see if that resolves the issue, which would point to something with the Flatpak specifically. We provide documentation for Arch here: https://handbrake.fr/docs/en/latest/developer/install-dependencies-ar...

Re: System Crash when using Handbrake

That's definitely odd and usually points to thermals, but obviously yours seem to be well within spec. HandBrake really can't crash the kernel especially with Flatpak sandboxing so I'm wondering if there's some instability in the underlying Flatpak subsystem. If you can trim (edit: use MKVToolNix or...

Re: Converting 4k/50p 10 BIT HEVC MPEG-TS 4:2:2

I tested your source here, looks excellent on a 4K display using the Playstation 2160p60 4K Surround preset (the only 4K preset we have that makes H.264/AVC). The average bit rate is 18 Mbit/s with peaks up to 39 Mbit/s. If your devices play this well, this is a good starting point. Don't get too hu...

Re: Converting 4k/50p 10 BIT HEVC MPEG-TS 4:2:2

Apologies, I linked the H.264/AVC levels, for which you will need 5.2. The source file is compliant to H.265/HEVC Level 5.1: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Efficiency_Video_Coding_tiers_and_levels#Levels HandBrake's primary purpose is not to create editor-friendly encodes, though the Production ...

Re: Converting 4k/50p 10 BIT HEVC MPEG-TS 4:2:2

Also, for H.264/AVC you do need Level 5.2 to support your frame rate (5.1 only does 4K up to about 30 fps): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Video_Coding#Levels I would expect no home media player (other than on a computer reading from local storage) to handle more than about 20-25 Mbit/s vide...

Re: Converting 4k/50p 10 BIT HEVC MPEG-TS 4:2:2

For editing or production delivery, that may make sense for their product as repeated transcoding can introduce losses. Regardless, it's somewhat arbitrary, especially applied to HandBrake as different encoders vary in their efficiency. Bit rate is only a measure of quality efficiency for a single e...

Re: detailed command line option docs OR deinterlacing help?

Yikes, that's a lot of unfiltered frames for the defaults, which are pretty sensitive. Are you sure the content isn't mixed interlaced and progressive, or telecined ?

Re: Handbrake doesn't start to encode.

Seems to work fine here, not sure whether something's being set incorrectly or not. It looks like your settings should be compliant. Anyway, unlike for H.264, pretty much all H.265 decoders we've tested handle any content up to 4K with level set to auto, so use auto unless you run into a specific is...

Re: Handbrake doesn't start to encode.

Level was always auto in 1.2.x. Setting to auto here should resolve your issue.

There may be an additional bug; I'll contact our Linux developer.

Re: detailed command line option docs OR deinterlacing help?

The default block parameters are pretty sensitive to combing and in my testing at least, I have not found a better group of settings. If the OP is sure his content is fully interlaced, disabling interlacing detection while enabling a deinterlacing is a smart move.

Note also that each encoder has its own settings, meaning you can't use the aforementioned with anything other than x264.

Re: Converting 4k/50p 10 BIT HEVC MPEG-TS 4:2:2

Start with one of the 4K presets, perhaps the Apple 2160p60 4K HEVC Surround preset or similar, and adjust quality according to https://handbrake.fr/docs/en/1.3.0/work ... ality.html

18 is a very high setting for 4K; we recommend 22-28 as a starting point.

Re: Handbrake doesn't start to encode.

HandBrake will not automatically sanitize your x265 settings to be compatible with a chosen level. If you provide the full activity log perhaps we can recommend what settings to adjust.

Re: HandBrake 1.3.0 comment Thread

I'd like to release more often, but it's wholly dependent on developer time. We're a small team. In the past we have aimed to put out a patch release within a few weeks following a major release to fix obvious issues. We have no definite timeline but plan to do the same as time permits.

Re: No Valid Source or titles Found

Sorry it's been so frustrating. There are a number of DVD read errors in the log. Make sure the disc is clean for starters. Tools like MakeMKV can be better at handling structural problems on discs than HandBrake. The log does raise a high probability libdvdcss isn't working with this disc, and this...

Re: Constant vs. Variable Frame Rate for streaming devices

It's not uncommon for all kinds of sources to be mixed interlaced/progressive, so with interlacing detection + deinterlacing (which you want) you will likely have VFR throughout, for instance a combination of 24p and 29.97i. Players handle VFR just fine. They do pretty much exactly what HandBrake wo...

Re: Handbrake 1.30 audio track selection

There is an issue with custom presets potentially having no audio when upgrading from earlier versions to 1.3.0. We hope to have this fixed for 1.3.1. In the meantime, the workaround is to manually recreate presets. @ricric You will probably find the Devices > Apple * presets useful. If you're not a...

@Donnage @Questor74 Please let us know whether Presets > Reset Official Presets solves the issue. We'll look into why this might not be happening automatically with a new release.
