Re: QSV encoded file-size larger than source

See also the denoise filters. Cleaning up source noise and grain can increase encoding efficiency.

Re: Audio settings control pannel

HandBrake's E-AC3 encoder does not get support 7.1 channels. You'll have to do your own research on audio quality comparisons.

Re: New i7-9700K vs i9-9900K for x265

The 6-8 core point of diminishing returns applies to the x264 encoder. x265 scales out many cores.

Sure, you're using quality based encoding, size will vary depending on the complexity of the material.
What module said.

Also, while using Intel QSV will typically be fast, you can expect larger file sizes.

Re: Defaults vs Custom

Fast 720p30 will also work fine. A few minor differences with that preset. Try that and reduce the quality to maybe RF 23 or 24 if you want a smaller file size.

I'm usually not the one to enforce logs policy in an authoritarian manner, and the first to stick up for individuals being unfairly or rudely treated on the forum. Re: Defaults vs Custom

I'm guessing the OP doesn't want surround sound for web use, so my suggestion is to use the default Fast 1080p30 preset and adjust the quality setting as desired. See https://handbrake.fr/docs/en/1.1.0/work ... ality.html

No. Just because the answer isn't what you're looking for, doesn't mean it is anything less than correct, sorry.

Re: Web optimized?

If you've changed the source, by definition you have changed the most important factor, even if it's encoded from the same parent source. Assuming this wouldn't greatly impact file size is a logic error. Web Optimized literally moves a few bytes from the end of the file to the front without re-encod...

Re: Fixing a DVD-R that has audio out of sync

Please read https://handbrake.fr/docs/en/1.1.0/help ... y-log.html for why Activity Logs are required for support.

Nobody is holding back information. As John notes, any further analysis requires a log. Your general question has been answered. Locking.

Re: Video Dimensions

Great feature for 99% of users who are starting with often matted DVD/BR content. The figure is probably less than half that, and dropping every day. That said, auto cropping is indeed the correct default for our user base. Dangerous feature, I'd say. Now I start guessing if anything like this coul...

Re: Is it possible to determine the final bitrate setting Constant Quality (RF)?

You may approximate the brute force approach by encoding single chapters or small time segments of your source that are typical in picture qualities and motion of the overall source, then do the maths to calculate size for the duration of the encode based on the average bit rate, and accept some mar...

Re: Video Dimensions

Most likely, HandBrake is automatically cropping black bars (letterboxing). This is usually desired, but if you want to retain them, simply set cropping to custom and all values to 0 (zero). Then save a new preset for future use.

Re: Presets

HandBrake removes any black bars in the video, so any you see are technically not there; they're added on playback to avoid stretching the video. This is normal. Filling the entire display requires either zooming or stretching the video, neither of which is ideal. All HandBrake will do is give you s...

Re: Presets

I recommend the Apple 1080p30 Surround preset, which is in the Devices category. The presets you mention are part of the General category. To answer your question, the General presets range from high speed encoding at lower quality, to slower speed encoding at higher quality. File size varies depend...

Not with HandBrake. Try MKVToolNix, it should allow you to make a single MKV that you may later feed to HandBrake if you wish.

We've improved support for subtitles using a period instead of comma as the fractional separator in HandBrake's nightly builds (64-bit required): https://github.com/HandBrake/HandBrake/ ... 63142e5eb6.
