Re: Does Handbrake automatically detect telecine and detelecine?

It's possible the source is soft telecine'd, meaning it's actually progressive but the stream tells the player to telecine on the fly. HandBrake, in this case, will ignore the soft telecine flags and work from the progressive frames.

Re: Does Handbrake automatically detect telecine and detelecine?

The official presets have combing detection and decomb on by default, so the combing artifacts created by telecine are removed. This does not automatically restore the frame rate to film; to do so you must enable the detelecine filter (NTSC only).

Re: converting mpeg4 to mpeg2

Changing the extension to .mp2 doesn't change the fact that you've made an MP4 (.mp4) video file. If you're familiar with the command line, you can use ffmpeg to change the container after using HandBrake: ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -vcodec copy -acodec copy output.mpeg Though, I'm not sure AAC audio is su...

Remember also we have worked with and maintain contact with Intel people on hardware encoding features. Nobody's pointing fingers; Scott's analysis is quite well based on the facts.

Re: How to convert interlaced video to progressive with double the frame rate?

You may also want to disable the Interlace Detection filter which analyzes the video to choose which frames to deinterlace. Turning this off forces all frames to be processed when a deinterlacing filter is enabled.

Re: How to convert interlaced video to progressive with double the frame rate?

Upscaling is not implemented in the graphical interface, but you can do it with the command line interface. Read the --help. Switch the deinterlacing filter from Decomb to Bob and make sure the video FPS is set to Same As Source, and you should have 50 FPS video. Be sure to save a new preset to use ...

Try using NLMeans Light High Motion to clean up the noise and make the video less complex, thus more compressible.

See the Adjusting quality article: https://handbrake.fr/docs/en/1.2.0/work ... ality.html

You can also use the Apple 540p30 Surround preset which I believe is the resolution of the old iPad preset.

Re: All Videos have subtitles burned in them

Bitmap subtitles like VOBSUB (DVD) and PGS (Blu-ray) aren't fully compatible with the MP4 container. The former will work with some players (notably not Apple products), and the latter is unworkable. By default HandBrake attempts to burn in the first subtitle matching your preferences and/or the def...

Re: Mixdown defaulting to Stereo?

Official presets moved from DPL2 to stereo with version 1.2.0, due to issues discovered with the DPL2 encoder regarding wide pans being represented incorrectly, and the fact that the vast majority of people do not use DPL2 decoders anymore.
