Ok, this seems to be specific to the first DVD (details PM-ed) which reliably hangs on multiple macs. The other 3 I've tried this evening have no problems.

Yes. The recommended copy downloaded from: http://download.videolan.org/libdvdcss/ ... dvdcss.pkg

However, it's worth pointing out that with /usr/lib/libdvdcss.2.dylib in place, it seems that both Apple DVD Player and VLC 2 freeze under OS X 10.7.3.
Moving it out of /usr/lib (after quitting Handbrake) restores their good behavior.
